Chapter 1338: Chapter 1338: One Drink to Relieve a Thousand Sorrows
His voice was as indifferent as cool night water, with no rise or fall at all, as if he were facing a stranger he was meeting for the first time.
Ariella’s gaze dimmed for a moment at his words, but very quickly returned to normal.
"Summer, congratulations!" She walked in with a grin and sat down next to Summer Sutton, throwing an arm around her shoulders. "Tomorrow you’re saying goodbye to singlehood. After this, you’ll probably envy the carefree life of someone like me on my own. Come on, I’ll drink with you properly tonight!"
"We’ve got to get up early tomorrow, don’t drink too much," Summer Sutton warned her in advance, afraid she’d overdo it.
"I won’t, I won’t. Aren’t you right here next to me?" Ariella waved it off carelessly, twisted open a beer and poured herself a glass. She turned her head, still grinning, and clinked glasses with Ryan Walyon. "Young Master Walyon, I didn’t expect to run into you in a foreign country like this. Come on, let me toast you too!"
Ryan Walyon hadn’t reacted yet before the drink in Ariella’s hand was already down her throat in one go.
Ariella had always been a straightforward, free-spirited woman. Whether it was because she was attending Summer Sutton’s wedding or for some other reason, she seemed especially cheerful tonight. She was drinking briskly, and after finishing one glass, she poured herself another.
Summer Sutton figured the three friends sitting together having a couple of drinks wasn’t a big deal, so at first she didn’t try to stop her. She didn’t expect Ariella to get hooked once she started. In the time it took Summer to take a phone call on the side, Ariella had already downed four glasses in a row.
When Summer Sutton hung up and saw the several empty beer bottles on the table, her heart gave a jolt.
Her gaze drifted slowly to Ariella’s face, which was already flushed red. A sudden uncertainty crept into Summer’s chest. If she kept drinking like this, wouldn’t something happen?
Thinking about the wedding tomorrow, with Ariella still needing to get up early as her bridesmaid, Summer Sutton quickly pressed down the hand that was lifting the glass toward Ariella’s mouth. "Little Ariella, stop drinking. That’s enough. If you keep going, you’ll be drunk."
"It’s fine, it’s fine. So what if I get drunk? You two are right here—who’d dare do anything to me?" Ariella brushed her hand away carelessly and downed another glass.
Summer Sutton stared quietly at her face for a few seconds, unable to keep her brows from knitting together.
Why did she feel like there was something off about Ariella’s mood tonight?
Was it related to Ryan Walyon?
Summer Sutton couldn’t figure out what was going on in Ariella’s head, but there was one thing she was sure of: Ariella’s tolerance for alcohol wasn’t that great. If she kept drinking, something was bound to happen.
Afraid she’d really get wasted, Summer shot to her feet and supported her, ready to help her out of the bar. "It’s late, stop drinking. Come on, I’ll walk you back to your hotel room!"
Before she could take a step, a dull "thud" sounded next to her—Ariella had collapsed!
Summer Sutton glanced down at the body crumpled on the floor, her brow furrowing again.
Was she drunk?
"Little Ariella!" Summer crouched down and gently pushed her.
Ariella lay limply on the ground, her eyes gently closed, giving no response at all.
"Little Ariella!" Summer Sutton’s voice rose a little.
But Ariella seemed not to hear, still keeping her eyes shut, as if she’d fallen asleep.
Helpless, Summer Sutton could only turn her pleading gaze to Ryan Walyon beside them.
Ariella was clearly drunk, and as a delicate girl weighing barely ninety pounds, Summer Sutton couldn’t possibly carry her. At a time like this, she could only rely on Ryan Walyon.
