Secret Marriage: The CEO's Pampered Wife
Chapter 423: Because I Like You
Chapter 423: Chapter 396: Because I Like You
Dylan Heston took Nancy Hughes to his apartment, helping her inside.
Nancy seemed to have sobered up a little. She looked around with dazed eyes. “This isn’t my home.”
“This is my apartment.”
“Yours?” Nancy broke into a wide grin and laughed at him. She threw her arms tightly around his neck, gazed into his eyes for a moment, then suddenly stood on her tiptoes and pressed her lips to his.
He couldn’t imagine the sheer influence this man named Zane Lennox had on her.
Hearing his words, Nancy had shot her head up. “I like you more.”
“Are you sure?”
Nancy nodded repeatedly. As she was nodding, the man’s kiss came down on her, nibbling her lips. “Remember, you were the one who let me kiss you first.”
Her eyes flew wide, and she stared dumbly at Dylan Heston. He smiled. “Why haven’t you closed your eyes?”
Nancy’s mind was slow to react. She obediently listened and closed her eyes.
Suddenly, she felt her body being lifted into the air. She pressed her forehead against his. “Where are we going?”
‘Truth be told, Nancy Hughes had been prepared, but she was still a little scared. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have drunk for liquid courage.’
‘She hadn’t drunk that much, so she still remembered everything that happened last night.’
‘She remembered that she had kissed Dylan Heston first, and then things had just happened naturally.’
‘Dylan Heston had even asked her how much she liked him.’
‘How much did she like him? Right now, he was probably the most important person in her heart.’
An arm reached over from behind and wrapped around her waist. Nancy Hughes turned to face him.
Dylan Heston happened to open his eyes just then. “You’re awake?”
She nodded shyly. Looking at the man’s handsome face, she couldn’t resist snuggling up and pressing her head against Dylan Heston’s cheek.
Tiny little gestures like that always put Dylan Heston in a good mood.
“Does it still hurt?”
“It’s fine,” she said softly.
‘Dylan Heston was absolutely a one-hundred-percent perfect man. Not only was he handsome and talented, but his cooking skills were also incredible.’
It made Nancy Hughes feel a little embarrassed. She slumped over the dining table, her gaze sneaking toward the man in the kitchen from the corner of her eye.
‘The more she looked at Dylan Heston now, the more handsome she found him. Even the view of his back was handsome.’
She took out her phone and secretly snapped a picture, saving it to her private album.
After breakfast, Dylan Heston drove her to work.
“Are you still going to the art studio to teach tonight?”
Nancy Hughes nodded. “If you think it’s a bother, you don’t have to come!”
“Nancy Hughes, you have me now. You don’t need to work so hard for money. You can rely on me,” Dylan Heston said seriously.
Before she had him, Nancy Hughes could only rely on herself to get by. But he hoped Nancy Hughes would trust him and depend on him.
He found it truly hard to imagine how difficult Nancy Hughes’s life had been before, so busy with work every day that she couldn’t even have a proper meal.
‘No wonder she’s always been so thin.’
Nancy Hughes was hesitant. She knew Dylan Heston meant well, but she didn’t want to depend on him completely. “Dylan, I know you’re very capable, and you could support me even if I didn’t work. But I don’t want to be that kind of person. I want to work on my own. If…”
“Alright, you should get to the office, or you’ll be late!”
Before she could finish, Dylan Heston cut her off sharply.
Nancy Hughes paused and looked at him. “Are you angry?”
“No.”
He said no, but his expression was stiff. Nancy Hughes leaned toward him.
She reached out and hugged him. “Dylan, I’m a person who warms up slowly. If things move too fast all at once, I won’t be used to it. If it’s okay, can we take things slow?”
‘It was like last night. She was actually terrified of being intimate with a man, but if it was Dylan Heston, she was willing to try to change, to speed up her pace and accept him.’
‘She was afraid that if Dylan Heston kept giving one-sidedly without getting any response from her, he would get discouraged and leave her.’
‘She had already gotten used to having him by her side.’
“Okay.” Dylan Heston couldn’t help but reach out and hug her, his voice softening.
‘To be honest, he was defenseless whenever Nancy Hughes softened up like this.’
“Then I’ll go to work now.”
“Mm. I’ll come pick you up this afternoon.”
“Okay, bye.”
Nancy Hughes grabbed her bag, got out of the car, and hurried into her company building.
At the same elevator bank, she saw Gwen Gunn. She squeezed through the crowd to greet her. “Ms. Gunn, good morning.”
Gwen Gunn glanced at her. “For a second there, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. Dylan Heston drove you to work?”
“Mm,” Nancy Hughes nodded with a dry laugh.
Nowadays, Nancy Hughes would call Zoey Zane every day to check on her.
Dylan Heston had specially hired a caregiver for Zoey Zane in Homeward, for which Nancy was grateful.
That afternoon, they had a meeting, and the team leader specially praised them.
The reason was that their last exhibition had been a great success, and the company had given them a bonus, which had now arrived.
To ensure the bonus was used fairly and transparently, everyone voted to use the money for a team dinner.
After work, she got into the elevator with her colleagues.
Her office colleagues were discussing where to go for their dinner this Saturday and what entertainment to organize for the evening.
Nancy Hughes took her phone out of her bag and glanced at a text message from Dylan Heston. The signal in the elevator was terrible, and her reply wouldn’t send.
“Oh, right, Nancy, do you have any suggestions?” a female colleague beside her suddenly dragged her into the conversation.
“Huh? I don’t really have an opinion. You guys can decide.”
“How about dinner first, then karaoke?”
“S-Sure, that’s fine!”
Nancy Hughes absently went along with them, her eyes on her phone as she watched her reply finally send. She took a deep breath.
As soon as she stepped out of the company building, she saw Dylan Heston’s car parked to the side. She said goodbye to her colleagues, “I’m heading out!”
“Bye-bye.”
As they went their separate ways, a female colleague walking in the other direction watched Nancy Hughes get into the car. “Hey, have you guys noticed that Nancy seems really busy lately?”
“Did you see the car she just got into? It’s a Porsche.” Another female colleague, acting as if she’d discovered a new continent, pointed at Dylan Heston’s car. “You don’t think she’s hooked up with some sugar daddy, do you?”
“Who else could it be but Dylan Heston!”
“Dylan Heston?” The other women all turned to look at that colleague. She gave them a sweeping glance. “What, you guys don’t know?”
Nancy Hughes had indeed been acting strangely lately. She took such a long leave for that Sheridan Family business and wasn’t even nagged by the team leader. She always rushed off right after work, and no one knew where she was going.
But none of them had ever imagined Nancy Hughes would get involved with Dylan Heston.
That was Dylan Heston, of all people. How did Nancy Hughes even know him?
“I don’t know the specifics, but I heard that the other day, Dylan Heston came to our company and dragged Nancy Hughes away in front of everyone. Rumors that they were together started spreading around the office back then! Do you guys seriously not pay any attention to the office grapevine?”
The other female colleagues still looked incredulous. “For real?”
“If you don’t believe me, ask Nancy Hughes this Saturday what her relationship with Dylan Heston is.”
Meanwhile, in Dylan Heston’s car, Nancy Hughes rubbed her knee.
“What’s wrong?” Dylan Heston asked, noticing her action.
Nancy Hughes frowned and rubbed her knee. “I bumped it on a chair at work by accident. It hurts a little.”
“Is it bruised?”
“I don’t know, I haven’t looked.”
She was wearing tight jeans, so it wasn’t convenient to check.
“Where should we eat after you’re done with work?”
“Whatever. I’m fine with anything.” She wasn’t a picky eater.
“Let’s go to my friend’s restaurant then.”
“Okay.”
The class seemed to stretch on forever.
While Nancy Hughes taught the children to draw, her attention kept drifting toward Dylan Heston.
‘It didn’t seem right to make him sit there bored, just to keep her company while she taught. Maybe she should just quit this job.’
“Teacher Hughes, look at the heart I drew! Is it pretty?” a cute little girl said, tugging on Nancy Hughes’s sleeve.
“It’s beautiful. Who do you want to give this drawing to? Your mommy?”
Nina Chandler shook her head, shyly pulling on Nancy’s clothes to get her to bend down. “Teacher Hughes, come closer. I’ll tell you a secret.”
“I want to give this drawing to the man outside,” the little girl whispered in her ear.
Nancy Hughes blinked and immediately looked out at Dylan Heston.
“Why do you want to give it to that man?”
“Because that man is handsome! Don’t you think he’s good-looking, Teacher Hughes?”
‘Dylan Heston was indeed very good-looking.’
But she didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. She hadn’t expected kids these days to be so quick to judge people by their looks.
Hearing Nancy agree, Nina Chandler smiled happily. “Teacher Hughes, do you think that man will say yes to me?”
“Say yes to what?”
“I’m giving him a heart, so of course I want to be his girlfriend! Teacher Hughes, do you think I’ll succeed?” Nina Chandler asked proudly.
Nancy Hughes patted her head and said, “Our Nina is the cutest girl there is. Nobody could dislike you!”
“Really!” Nina Chandler’s eyes instantly sparkled. Nancy nodded. “You can go confess to the man.”
“Okay!”
Encouraged by Nancy Hughes, Nina Chandler ran outside, holding her drawing carefully.
Nancy Hughes stood inside and watched. Dylan Heston was very good with children. Nina Chandler held up her drawing and chattered on and on, but Dylan showed no sign of impatience.
‘She suddenly remembered seeing Dylan Heston one night, crouching in front of a little girl and comforting her, his expression just as gentle as it was now.’
While she was lost in a daze, the man outside suddenly turned and his gaze met hers.
She quickly averted her gaze, looking elsewhere.
‘Dylan Heston had only glanced at her, but it was enough to make her heart pound.’
After confessing to Dylan Heston, Nina Chandler ran back excitedly and gave Nancy Hughes a victory sign.
“Teacher Hughes, thank you.”
Nancy Hughes was even more confused. “Thank me for what?”
“Mr. Heston said I should thank Teacher Hughes!”
‘What was going on?’
Nancy Hughes looked at the man outside again. He shot her a devilish look that made her scalp tingle with a bad premonition.
