Chapter 426: Chapter 399: My Boyfriend Is Coming to Pick Me Up in a Bit 1

I’ve been so sleepy for a while now.

“If you’re tired, just sleep for a bit. I’ll wake you up when we get home.”

With Dylan Heston by her side, she always felt an inexplicable sense of security.

However, in reality, Dylan Heston had no intention of waking her at all.

When they arrived at the apartment, he got out of the car carrying Nancy Hughes directly in his arms.

He spoke to Kyle Kerr, who was in front, “Cancel everything on tomorrow’s schedule.”

Kyle Kerr looked troubled. “But Mr. Tate from Mirengard said he would come in person tomorrow.”

Today, Dylan Heston had personally made a trip to Mirengard, but instead of meeting the person he was supposed to, he had ended up making small talk with a bunch of irrelevant people.

“Postpone it to the day after tomorrow.”

“Alright.” When it came to an order from his boss, Kyle Kerr could only resign himself to carrying it out.

Nancy Hughes slept soundly. When she opened her eyes and saw the glaring sun outside, she rolled over to face the other way.

Dylan Heston was already up. His scent lingered in the blankets. She took a deep breath of it, then suddenly shot out from under the covers.

She was immediately hit by a blast of cool air, the chill making her skin break out in goosebumps.

She looked down and realized her clothes had been taken off, but she didn’t have the unpleasant odor she had expected.

Uh, she lifted the covers to look at herself again. After a moment of thought, she concluded there was only one possibility.

‘Last night, Dylan Heston must have given me a bath after I fell asleep.’

Even though they had been intimate before, something like him bathing her and changing her clothes was still…

“You’re awake. Come and have breakfast.”

Just as Nancy Hughes was sitting on the bed, flustered and dazed, Dylan Heston appeared at the door, his gaze fixed on her without reservation.

Startled, Nancy Hughes hastily clutched the blanket to cover herself. “I know, I know! You go out first.”

After watching Dylan Heston close the door, she finally scrambled out from under the covers and pulled on some clothes.

After washing up and changing into a clean outfit, she walked out of the bedroom and heard a cat meowing.

Huh? That meow sounded especially familiar.

‘It sounds like my fat cat from home.’

She followed the sound and found the little fat cat sitting by Dylan Heston’s feet, tilting its round head up and meowing at him nonstop.

“How did you get it over here!” She walked over, crouched down, and stroked Blue’s head.

Dylan Heston had a key to her apartment. This morning, before Nancy Hughes had woken up, he had gone to her place and brought the cat over.

“You weren’t at the apartment, so I was worried no one would take care of it.”

“Don’t worry, if it gets hungry, it knows to run over to the neighbor’s.” Nancy Hughes stroked Blue’s head. ‘This little guy is pretty smart.’

Besides, the old lady next door was especially nice. Whenever it was mealtime, she always put out an extra portion of cat food.

She picked up the cat. “Perfect. I actually have some free time today, so I’ll give you a bath.”

They didn’t have any pet bathing supplies at home, so Nancy Hughes and Dylan Heston made a special trip to a pet store.

“Why not just have the pet store wash it? It’s much more convenient.”

“Blue is afraid of pet stores. It gets uncontrollable.”

They had brought Blue to a pet store once before, and it ended up scratching one of the employees.

After that, they never brought Blue to a pet store again, always doing things themselves.

Nancy Hughes covered her mouth. “You’ll see, it’s going to be fun.”

After buying the necessary supplies and making a trip to the supermarket, they returned home to prepare for Blue’s bath.

“When I carry it into the bathroom in a bit, you need to shut the door quickly.”

Blue, completely unaware of what was about to happen, was napping leisurely on the balcony, sunbathing.

She tiptoed over. Blue flicked its tail, glanced back at her, and then went back toing its eyes shut.

Nancy Hughes crouched down and smoothly scooped it up. “Be good now.”

She smoothed its fur, shot Dylan Heston a look, and then dashed into the bathroom with the cat in her arms.

Every time they gave Blue a bath, it always took two or three hours.

After getting the water temperature right, Nancy Hughes held the cat tightly and said, “Don’t turn the water on too high, or it’ll struggle.”

Sure enough, as soon as the water turned on, the tone of Blue’s meow changed completely.

Its fluffy fur all matted down. Nancy Hughes burst out laughing. “See? Isn’t this fun?”

Blue was one of those very fluffy cats, so its fur hid its true shape.

Blue was deeply traumatized. The moment it got out of the bathroom, it shot off to the balcony with a WHOOSH to lick its fur.

“You should go change. Your clothes are all wet.” Nancy Hughes pushed him into the bedroom.

“You’re not changing?” He glanced at her. Nancy Hughes said shyly, “I’ll change in a bit.”

“Not together?”

Nancy Hughes glared at him and flatly refused, “No!”

After its bath, Blue didn’t dare approach either of them for the rest of the afternoon. Whenever it saw them, it would run far away.

That night, the two of them were snuggled on the couch, watching a movie.

The room was pitch black. Suddenly, Dylan Heston picked up his phone and went outside. “I have to take this call.”

Nancy Hughes nodded and kept her attention on the screen, her emotions rising and falling with the plot.

Dylan Heston came back. “Sorry, I have to go out.”

“Did something happen?” She paused the movie and turned her head to look at Dylan Heston.

“You go ahead and sleep tonight.” Dylan Heston kissed her cheek.

Before Nancy Hughes could ask what was going on, Dylan Heston had already grabbed his keys and left.

Dylan Heston didn’t say what it was, but whatever made him leave in such a hurry couldn’t be anything minor.

‘It’s already ten o’clock. Could it be something important for work?’

Nancy Hughes waited until after midnight, but he never came back.

The next day, she woke up before her alarm. Feeling the empty space beside her, she realized Dylan Heston hadn’t come home all night.

She sent him a text, but he didn’t reply instantly like he usually did. Feeling dejected, she went to work.

On the way to her company, she checked her phone several times, but there was still no reply from Dylan Heston.

All day long, Nancy Hughes was on edge, checking her phone from time to time.

Dylan Heston was acting very abnormally today. Not a single text or call. ‘He must be really busy.’

As it was nearing the end of her workday, she hurried to the art studio.

In the studio, Ms. Chandler was organizing the art supplies. “How come you’re here alone today? Where’s that boyfriend of yours?”

Nancy Hughes put down her bag. “He’s busy today, so he couldn’t come.”

The children arrived one after another, and the class began.

About halfway through the class, the phone in her pocket finally rang.

She excitedly grabbed her phone, only to see it wasn’t a call from Dylan Heston.

It was Liam Sheffield. Puzzled, she answered, “Hello?”

“It’s me.” Dylan Heston’s voice came from the other end. Nancy Hughes froze for a moment.

“How is it you? Hold on…” Nancy Hughes glanced around, then stood up and started walking outside.

“This kid smashed my phone. I was afraid you’d worry, so I’m using his phone to call you.”

The weight on her heart suddenly lifted. ‘No wonder he never replied to my text.’

But what was even stranger was why he was with Liam Sheffield. “Oh, I see. What’s wrong with Liam Sheffield?”

“This kid disappeared for two days. His mom called me last night and asked me to find him. Turns out he ran off to a bar to get drunk!” Dylan Heston briefly explained what happened. “He had a drunken fit and smashed my phone.”

“Why would he suddenly drink so much?” Nancy Hughes asked worriedly. “Where are you guys now?”

“At a hotel. I’ll come pick you up later.”

“No need. You should stay at the hotel and take care of Liam Sheffield. I can get home by myself.”

“You’ll be okay getting back by yourself?”

“Of course I will! I’m not a child anymore!” Nancy Hughes huffed proudly, hearing the sound of Liam Sheffield causing a ruckus on the other end.

“Call me when you get home.”

“Mm-hmm.”

Liam Sheffield seemed to be completely wasted. On her way back, her phone rang again.

She thought it was Dylan Heston calling to ask if she was home yet, but it was Liam Sheffield’s voice on the other end.

“Senior!” Liam Sheffield yelled her name, startling her. “What’s wrong, Liam?”

Liam Sheffield just kept repeating “Senior!” and nothing else, leaving Nancy Hughes completely bewildered. “Liam, is your cousin there with you?”

“Senior…”

“Yes, I’m here. If you have something to say, just say it.”

There was another long silence on the other end. Hearing Liam Sheffield’s heavy breathing, Nancy Hughes almost thought he had fallen asleep. Just as she was about to hang up, she heard him say, with uncharacteristic seriousness, “Nancy Hughes!”

“Yes?”

“Are you home yet?” Dylan Heston’s voice suddenly cut in.

“Not yet. Liam Sheffield seems a little strange tonight,” she said.

“All drunks are like that. Don’t pay him any mind.”

“Alright. Well, you take good care of him tonight.”

Dylan Heston returned in the early morning. Hearing the sound of running water from the bathroom, she sat up instinctively.

“Sorry, did I wake you?”

The light was on. Dylan Heston was drying his hair with a towel. “How is Liam Sheffield?”

“What else can you expect from a drunk? He was a nonstop nuisance!” Dylan Heston sighed faintly.

“So you just left him at the hotel like that? Will he be okay?”

“I waited for him to fall asleep before I came back. I’ll have his mom go over tomorrow morning.”

“Oh.”

“If you’re tired, sleep a little longer.”

Dylan Heston pulled her tighter into his arms. “You awake?”

“Mm-hmm.” Her reply was muffled as she rested on his chest.

“It’s still early, sleep a little more,” Dylan Heston said, patting her on the back.

Nancy Hughes thought about how strange Liam Sheffield had been. He rarely called her, and last night he had used such an unusually serious tone to say her name. ‘What was that all about?’

“Did something happen to Liam Sheffield?”

“It’s nothing serious. Don’t worry about it.”

“Oh.”

The hand on her back gently patted her, a comforting rhythm that was very soothing. Sleepiness washed over her, and she closed her eyes and drifted off again.

She had to go to work in the morning, so she hadn’t been asleep for long before she jolted awake.

Dylan Heston was already up. She shot up in bed with a start, grabbed her phone from the side, and saw it was already eight o’clock.

‘Oh no, oh no, I’m going to be late again today.’

She jumped out of bed in a panic and ran for the bathroom.

Brushing her teeth, washing her face, and changing her clothes took a grand total of ten minutes.
