Chapter 737: Chapter 738: Who Is the One Being Ridiculous?
Tianyan Sect.
Peak of One Big Happy Family.
Chu Xingchen held a teacup in one hand, taking light sips, while the other hand played a little game with Sandong.
Xie Lingyu held two jade tokens. One contained Lin Luoyu’s report on the new policy situation; the other held Li Yingling’s account of the Chen Baiqing incident.
Chu Xingchen had already read both messages. Now it was Xie Lingyu’s turn.
Lin Luoyu’s report was fairly routine.
But the jade token from Li Yingling — that one was quite lively.
In her reply, Li Yingling naturally expressed her dissatisfaction with Chen Baiqing’s actions. Even if she disagreed with the arrangements, she shouldn’t have gone behind the sect’s back to incite Wu Wang.
This had compressed what was already a tight timeline to its absolute limit. Had Lin Luoyu and Li Junzi not prepared in advance — had they truly waited for her intelligence — Cangwu Kingdom would have been torn to shreds by now.
She also harshly reprimanded Li Xingtian for having something wrong with his brain, trying to shield Chen Baiqing in a matter like this, and even helping her conceal things from Li Yingling.
Li Yingling’s letter was long, and her wording was obviously emotional.
It seemed Chen Baiqing’s decisions had truly agitated the Eldest Senior Sister considerably.
At the end of the letter, Li Yingling noted that she had managed to contain her emotions and had not continued to interrogate or question Chen Baiqing, choosing instead to wait until this matter was resolved and leave it to their Master.
Furthermore, if Chen Baiqing made any further moves, she — as the Eldest Senior Sister — would not be so polite.
Xie Lingyu finished reading both jade tokens and felt her head ache. She looked over at Chu Xingchen, who still seemed perfectly at ease, and couldn’t help but ask:
"A situation has developed like this, and you’re not worried?"
Sandong looked over with a puzzled expression.
Chu Xingchen reached out to shield Sandong’s view, gently tapped its head, then chuckled in reply:
"Do you think Chen Baiqing would sell me out?"
Xie Lingyu answered naturally: "Of course not."
"And the leaky padded jacket?"
"Neither."
"Since neither would, what am I worried about?"
Xie Lingyu looked slightly displeased:
"Have you forgotten what you renamed this peak? A matter has spiraled into this."
Chu Xingchen accidentally lost the game to Sandong, drawing a delighted grin from the little creature. Only then did he turn around, his gaze settling on Xie Lingyu:
"When they were young, as their Master I naturally had to keep a close eye on them. Now, whether it’s Yingling or Baiqing, they’ve grown to the point where they don’t really need someone watching over them."
"If I suppress everything now and prevent all conflict, will they never fight in the future?"
"Better to let them have their clashes now, while we still have someone to catch them."
"There’s a saying back in my hometown — relationships only get better after you’ve had a fight."
"Nobody is perfect. Yingling needs to accept Baiqing’s occasional disobedience, and Baiqing has to make concessions for Yingling’s displeasure. Only after Li Xingtian has been caught in the middle will he truly learn how to mediate."
Xie Lingyu listened to this but found herself with nothing to say, replying only with mild resignation:
"You and your twisted logic."
Chu Xingchen stood up, raising an eyebrow slightly:
"This isn’t twisted logic. Look at Sect Master Lü being such a pushover — I might end up passing the sect master position to Cui Hao, that poor bastard."
Xie Lingyu couldn’t help but crack a smile at that.
"All right, Lady Lingyu, I’m entrusting all these disciple matters to you, Lady Master’s Wife." Chu Xingchen took a spirit fruit from his spatial ring and handed it to Sandong, then continued, "I need to make a trip to Xuanqing Heavenly Sect."
Xie Lingyu frowned, then rose as well:
"What are you going to Xuanqing Heavenly Sect for?"
"Naturally, to take on the matters of the Five Continents and Myriad Regions." Chu Xingchen shrugged helplessly. "Xu Linglong — whether she truly can’t conceal her tracks anymore or is genuinely planning something big — has already shown her presence in Eastern Divine Continent."
"I personally lean toward the latter, so by all logic, we should cause Xu Linglong some trouble."
"So now these rebellious disciples causing a ruckus will have to be watched by the Master’s Wife. If you have any ideas, just use my name to send them on errands — I’ll back you up on everything afterward."
Xie Lingyu stepped closer to Chu Xingchen, her lips pressed lightly together, and finally said softly:
"Be careful with everything."
Chu Xingchen nodded earnestly, then added playfully:
"Don’t worry — I’ll definitely keep Xu Jin in front of me as a shield. If anything dangerous comes up, he goes first. If he gets beaten up, I won’t even glance — I’ll turn and bolt."
Xie Lingyu did not laugh. Instead, she reached out and took Chu Xingchen’s hand, her voice gentle:
"Don’t worry about your disciples. Your Master’s Wife will look after them."
Chu Xingchen lowered his head slightly, meeting Xie Lingyu’s worried gaze, and replied softly:
"Relax. I’m just going to see what the situation is. There’s no need to let them know about this for now."
Xie Lingyu nodded gently, then stepped aside:
"Go and come back soon."
Chu Xingchen leaned in, pressed a quick kiss to someone’s lips, then turned and departed.
Sandong sat on the table gnawing on its spirit fruit, watching the two of them with a gaze that was equal parts curious and shy.
It naturally knew the Sect Master was probably going off to handle something dangerous again.
But Sandong also knew it wasn’t as clever as the Sect Master. Whatever the Sect Master needed to do was something it didn’t understand but was nonetheless important.
So Sandong wouldn’t try to stop him — but it would keep praying for the Sect Master in its heart.
Xuanqing Heavenly Sect and Tianyan Sect had already set up a teleportation formation between them.
So Chu Xingchen didn’t need to bring any guards to visit Xuanqing Heavenly Sect. He stood on the teleportation formation with perfect ease and arrived at Xuanqing Heavenly Sect.
When Chu Xingchen stepped off the formation, although he had braced himself mentally, the reception still caught him off guard.
Besides his old friend Xu Jin being naturally present, the Sect Master of Xuanqing Heavenly Sect, Li Moze, seemed to have been waiting for quite some time, with several elders trailing behind him.
Most exaggerated of all was that Huang Miao, the God of Slaughter of Xuanqing Heavenly Sect, was also on site.
This was a Tribulation Transcendence Great Perfection cultivator — someone who treated ultimate techniques as basic attacks and had once dared to trade blows with Bai Xuanling.
Li Moze smiled: "It has been quite some time."
"As long as Sect Master Li doesn’t mind me, that’s fine." Chu Xingchen chuckled in reply, then ignored his good brother Xu Jin entirely, his gaze turning to Huang Miao. "Senior Huang, where are you headed?"
Huang Miao smiled: "You kid — you love playing dumb. Naturally, I go wherever you go."
Chu Xingchen laughed and shook his head:
"Hahaha, Senior Huang, you’re being far too dramatic."
Xu Jin silently watched the lingering aura of the Primordial Chaos Twin Spirit Beads — Xuanqing Heavenly Sect’s treasure — still swirling around Chu Xingchen. It was obvious Chu Xingchen had triggered the treasure before passing through the teleportation formation.
Who the hell needed to activate a treasure before using a teleportation formation?
Who was the one being truly ridiculous?
And had the Sect Master still not reclaimed that thing?
Letting his mind do the math — this Xuanqing Heavenly Sect treasure had been on Chu Xingchen for at least thirty, approaching forty years now.
Chu Xingchen’s gaze finally settled on Xu Jin, and he spread his arms wide for a hug:
"Good brother! It’s been too long. Why didn’t you come when I invited you and Zheng Zhaoling for drinks last time?"
Xu Jin replied with exasperation:
"I was afraid you’d be kneeling to apologize and I’d be the one on my knees..."
Though his tone was snarky, Xu Jin also opened his arms.
The next instant.
The two did not manage to embrace.
The aura of the Primordial Chaos Twin Spirit Beads directly displaced Xu Jin, sliding him backward.
Chu Xingchen looked apologetic:
"Sorry... I haven’t used this thing in so long, I’m a bit rusty. I didn’t mean to."
"First of all, this is NOT a ’thing’!" Xu Jin retorted weakly.
"Second! If you hadn’t explained, I would’ve believed you!"
