Sequence Highway Survival: I Upgrade Supplies in the Apocalypse
Chapter 662: Busy Captain Chu
Life at the base was plain and unadorned.
Early in the morning, Chen Ye had already moved a chair to a sunny patch and sat there basking.
Even though he was a superhuman, the comfort brought by sunshine still felt delightful.
There was also the constant sound of waves from the sea.
The sky today was so blue it made one want to nap under the sun.
That warm feeling, from outside to inside, always made people feel languid.
Xu Lina, after attending the funeral, had also dragged over a chair and was lying beside Chen Ye, wearing a face mask and looking utterly relaxed.
About the funeral, nobody would have said anything even if Xu Lina had skipped it.
Although the survivors were angry because friends and relatives had died, they still dared not show disrespect toward a superhuman.
Still, Xu Lina attended. In truth, face masks do almost nothing for superhumans; they are more of a psychological comfort.
Not far away, Iron Lion was holding a boulder many times larger than his body, squatting with it again and again.
Sweat drenched him like rain, yet he gritted his teeth and persisted.
Perhaps recent battles had put too much pressure on Iron Lion.
This guy used to either sleep or eat, but now his training frequency had clearly risen a lot compared to before.
Like Chen Ye, he was stuck on the threshold between Sequence 3 and Sequence 4, always feeling promotion was one second away, but that one second kept drifting farther.
Ding Dong had both arms gone, and now looked more like a human club.
Earlier, Captain Chu had gone to talk with Ding Dong.
At first, Captain Chu had thought this woman would be emotionally devastated by losing both arms.
But things seemed to have surprised Captain Chu.
It looked as if this woman’s emotions had not been affected at all by losing both arms.
When Chen Ye saw her, her expression was extremely indifferent.
Calm to an astounding degree.
Even Zhou Xiaoxiao’s reaction had been more emotionally intense than hers.
In the end, Ding Dong comforted Captain Chu instead, telling him that she was not as weak as he imagined.
Captain Chu opened his mouth, paused for a long time, and didn’t know what to say.
He had no choice but to call Doctor Luo again to check her injuries.
Actually, when Ding Dong had returned yesterday, Doctor Luo had already examined her.
After the second check, the man felt quite unwell.
The physiology of superhumans had long exceeded his understanding.
In just one night, Ding Dong’s severed arms appeared to have healed as if they had been detached for a month.
Keep in mind, her arms had probably been severed for only a dozen hours.
Although he had mentally prepared for this, he had studied medicine half his life and now found his skills useless, which left Doctor Luo at a loss.
Many manifestations of superhumans had already gone beyond his comprehension.
Just when everyone thought Ding Dong was useless,
this woman still lived exactly the same as yesterday, the day before yesterday, and the day before that, with no difference.
At least on the surface.
Most of the convoy’s ideal grain seeds were planted in flower pots.
Every time the convoy stopped to rest, Ding Dong would carry the ideal grain pots out of the truck bed, one by one.
When they set off, she would load the pots back onto the truck one by one.
It was bothersome, but this kind of trouble—caring for the ideal grain seeds—was what every convoy dreamed of.
The Post-Apocalyptic Opera Troupe convoy had asked Captain Chu countless times to swap for some ideal grain seeds, only to be sternly refused by Captain Chu.
When the Skeleton Convoy learned that the Fair Convoy actually had ideal grain seeds, they even shed disgraceful tears.
Previously, Ding Dong would lightly hook up a pot with her remaining left arm, lifting a single pot that would normally require two adults to move.
Of course, survivors from the convoy would sometimes help.
But most of the time, Ding Dong was involved personally.
Now, with even her left arm gone, everyone thought this woman could no longer personally move those grain pots.
Although many survivors did not show it outwardly,
they were secretly gloating deep down, no matter how much they tried to hide it.
Who would have thought that when everyone assumed Ding Dong would ask for help,
the woman gently lifted one leg, hooked the bottom of a corn pot with her foot, and the huge pot rose as she hooked it.
Then, with a light whip of her leg, she moved the corn pot to a spot bathed in sunlight.
The whole process was fluid and effortless, as if that were how it had always been.
Those powerful thighs were more dexterous than ordinary hands.
This move left many survivors who had been privately anticipating Ding Dong’s downfall staring in stunned silence.
The pot of ideal grain landed exactly where intended, steady and secure.
That one action left many people dumbfounded.
Ding Dong herself was unfazed, as if this was perfectly natural for her.
Gong Yong continued improving his Bluetooth earbuds.
The earlier version had shown many flaws in real combat.
One problem was that it could not provide real-time alerts like a phone.
If, in the Haosheng Hotel incident, Chen Ye had been able to alert Iron Lion in real time, Iron Lion might not have pushed open the door of Room 23 at that time.
Also, during battles, ambient noise could be captured and passed through the earbuds, creating severe interference for others.
This was why Iron Lion had removed his earbuds when fighting the monster in Room 22 of the Haosheng Hotel.
Before the apocalypse, everyone could be given a real-time communications terminal, like a phone.
But now, in the apocalypse, many signal towers no longer worked.
Phones had long become decorations.
Still, for better information sharing,
Gong Yong was now attempting to modify phones into real-time personal combat communications terminals.
If this work had been done before the apocalypse, it might not have been complicated.
But now…
If Gong Yong were not a superhuman, this idea would have been impossible.
Compared to Chen Ye’s leisure,
Captain Chu was much busier today.
After attending the convoy’s funeral, Captain Chu went straight to the Silent Council.
He detailed the Hanging Corpse Forest situation near Room 23 of the Haosheng Hotel thoroughly.
Although he knew the Silent Council would already be aware,
Captain Chu still tirelessly emphasized the danger of the Haosheng Hotel’s Room 23.
Hou Junji was so pestered by Captain Chu that he had no way out, so he agreed to help the Fair Convoy resolve the problem.
The Silent Council’s solution was to seal the entire Haosheng Hotel.
To do this, they invited Oasis City’s City Lord Cha Wu to take action and also called on another formation master from a convoy at the base.
Two formation masters would collaborate to seal the Haosheng Hotel.
That was how Captain Chu was finally sent off.
With an answer, Captain Chu felt slightly satisfied.
As long as the Haosheng Hotel was guaranteed to be safe for the short term, it would do.
As for the future…
they would deal with it later…
Checking the time, it was already three in the afternoon, almost time for the second meal of the day.
Captain Chu hurried from the Silent Council office, planning to return to the camp as quickly as possible.
Those people were not the sort who would wait at home for him to eat.
By the way, Zhao Hong and that Number Two leader from the Skeleton Convoy also seemed to plan to join the convoy for a meal today.
Hopefully both of them will actually make it to the table.
