Sequence Highway Survival: I Upgrade Supplies in the Apocalypse
Chapter 748: This Man Wei Butong
After destroying Number Two, the atmosphere around the entire base relaxed significantly.
The survivors had many more smiles on their faces.
They knew that the most terrifying anomaly in Xi City had been extinguished, and there weren't many anomalies left in Xi City now.
All they had to do was wait for the other superhumans to clear out the remaining anomalies, and then they could move back to live in the city.
For survivors who had spent several years living through this, the civilized life they once knew felt like a dream.
A dream that would often leave them startled awake in the middle of the night, staring into the distance for a long, long time.
Even though many survivors who had been to Xi City said it was no longer the Xi City it used to be.
It was desolate, dilapidated, and no longer even resembled the place where humanity once lived.
Still, that couldn't stop the survivors from looking forward to Xi City.
Clean roads, tidy houses, and abundant supplies.Mm... these things that existed only in their memories used to seem so ordinary.
But now, thinking back, they only felt how incredibly precious those things were.
"I heard from our convoy captain that it'll only take three days. Three days from now, we'll be able to move into Xi City!"
"Xi City... I always wanted to take my wife and kid there to see it. Back then I was always too busy and never had the time. Who would've thought... in the end, I came alone!"
As he spoke, a thin, gaunt middle-aged man's eyes reddened. He took off his glasses and wiped the corner of his eyes with the back of his hand.
"Damn you, don't you dare pull this kind of thing at a time like this! You're about to make me cry too!"
A middle-aged woman with a southern accent also had reddened eyes.
"Alright, alright, stop crying. Being able to return to city life is definitely a good thing!"
"Three days? Our convoy captain said at the latest, the day after tomorrow, we can move in. When that happens, I'm going to live in a large villa!"
"Large villa? The large villas are all in the suburbs, and there are still plenty of anomalies there. What Xi City has most of are homestays, inns, and hotels."
"Heh heh, I heard the Haosheng Hotel is pretty nice. As long as I get a room there, I'll be satisfied!"
Similar conversations could be heard all over the base.
Everyone held tremendous expectations about returning to city life.
They all seemed to think that as long as they returned to Xi City, they could get closer to the life they once had. Closer and closer!
Everyone knew that Xi City could never be the Xi City of before.
But even just a hint of that former civilization would fill the survivors with joy.
After such a long period of nomadic life, many people had even started to think that the civilized society of the past was nothing more than a collective dream everyone had shared.
And yet, it seemed like no one remembered the dead.
Apart from a few new graves added at Rest Eternal Garden, the names that had been remembered were being mentioned less and less frequently.
The traces of the Skeleton Convoy had completely vanished from this world.
Except for that one new grave in Rest Eternal Garden.
On the tombstone was written: "Grave of Number One of the Skeleton Convoy. Erected by friends: Chu Che, Chen Ye, Sun Xixi."
Apart from that, there was no more information.
This was the only evidence that the entire Skeleton Convoy had ever existed in this world.
No one even knew Number One's real name.
The people who knew Number One's true name had long since failed to return when the sea anomalies came ashore.
Chu Che could only give Number One a tombstone like this.
After all, the Fair Convoy and the Skeleton Convoy used to be neighbors. Comparatively speaking, the Fair Convoy had the best relationship with them.
"Salute!"
Hou Junji let out a thunderous shout.
All the Silent Council members present slammed their right fists against their left chests, then lowered their heads in silence.
Elder Hou, Hou Junji, straightened his back and led all the Silent Council members in a deep bow toward Song Wei's new grave.
Beside them were the members of the Apocalypse Rhapsodists Convoy.
The man in his thirties standing at the front was presumably the convoy's administrator. Silently, he tossed paper ingots into the bonfire before him.
Behind him, many survivors had already reddened eyes.
Ye and Xu Linhao had always been relatively lenient with the survivors in their convoy.
Therefore, the survivors of the Apocalypse Rhapsodists Convoy lived slightly better lives than those in other convoys.
Their grief right now, at the very least, looked sincere.
At this funeral, almost all the superhumans who had participated in the siege had come.
The flowers on Hou Junji, Sun Xixi, Wu Zehui, and Jiang Rou had mostly receded by now.
At least on the surface, they looked no different from before.
As for how much of their strength they had recovered, only they themselves knew.
This was where one had to acknowledge how impressive this Wei Butong fellow really was.
This guy seemed unreliable on the surface, spoke with a bit of a chuunibyou flair, and fantasized about being the protagonist of this world.
But the man genuinely had real skill.
Number Two's ability had caught everyone off guard. Even though Chen Ye had sacrificed Number Two to the Hundred-Ghost Eater, the residual energy it left behind could still have brought down everyone remaining.
At that time, Sun Xixi, Jiang Rou, Hou Junji, and the others all had residual energy from Number Two on them, their bodies covered in blooming flowers.
Without outside intervention, these people would probably have had at most a few hours left to live.
But in this guy's hands, it only took a few pills and a few days to completely cure them.
This made Chen Ye think considerably more highly of Wei Butong.
Perhaps geniuses really were just that crazy and erratic.
Chen Ye had heard Hou Junji mention it in passing. This Wei Butong was originally the cream of the crop among the younger generation aboard the Sky Whale.
No wonder the people on the Sky Whale had sent this guy.
This one person's contribution was more useful than dispatching several superhumans.
Just the fact that this guy was a Sequence 4 of the Great Physician Sequence was already unmatched.
Not to mention his ability as a Sequence 3 Alchemist.
Though he had no idea what special abilities the Alchemist Sequence possessed, dual Sequence users were already extremely rare.
And having two Sequences, one at Sequence 4 and one at Sequence 3.
That was absolutely terrifying.
He could even go toe-to-toe with City Lord Cha Wu. And this guy was so much younger than City Lord Cha.
Even Chen Ye was merely a half-finished dual Sequence superhuman.
His Blood Eye had been taken from an anomaly, and he still didn't know whether he counted as an Anomaly Symbiont or a Wonder Symbiont.
Moreover, his Blood Eye's current abilities didn't seem all that strong.
But that smug little expression of his, looking at everyone like they were a bunch of country bumpkins, was genuinely infuriating.
Chen Ye guessed that perhaps it was precisely because of this guy's terrible personality that the people on the Sky Whale had kicked him out.
Chen Ye's guess wasn't wrong.
Wei Butong was indeed, as Hou Junji had said, one of the rare geniuses on the Sky Whale.
If one were to speak of those on the Sky Whale with greater combat power than him, there were some.
But there was absolutely no one with greater talent than him.
However, this guy had fallen deep into the rabbit hole of reading web novels.
He constantly imagined himself as the protagonist of a web novel.
He was always fantasizing about being that kind of protagonist who displays his divine power before the masses, turning the tide at the critical moment, and ultimately shocking everyone.
In his eyes, everyone else was just a supporting character.
Even the old-timers on the Sky Whale were regarded by Wei Butong as mere extras.
Once, Wei Butong had even, in front of everyone, shouted at those old-timers on the Sky Whale: "Don't bully a youth for being poor! Thirty years on the east bank, thirty years on the west bank!" "The me of now you ignore and dismiss, the me of the future you can't even hope to reach!" and similar things.
This gave the people on the Sky Whale a massive headache.
If not for the fact that this guy was genuinely a genius, he would have been kicked out long ago.
As luck would have it, this time, Hou Junji sent word asking for help.
So the people on the Sky Whale sent this pest Wei Butong out.
