Sequence Highway Survival: I Upgrade Supplies in the Apocalypse
Chapter 784 A Thousand and One Things
Actually, Chen Ye had plenty to keep him busy, too.
Several major matters had been weighing on him lately.
First: restoring his Supernatural Power.
He had recovered some over the past few days, but he was still nowhere near fully restored.
He had only just regained a little strength when the matter with You Hu came up.
Then his Supernatural Power ran dry again.
Without Supernatural Power, Chen Ye never felt quite at ease.
Second: entering the Ghost Prison to see how Hundred-Ghost Eater was doing.
Hundred-Ghost Eater swallowing Number Two was like a snake trying to swallow an elephant.
It would probably take some time to fully digest Number Two.
But the fact that it would take time left Chen Ye feeling uneasy. Hundred-Ghost Eater had to become combat-ready as soon as possible.
Something else might happen in Xi City before long.
To investigate Hundred-Ghost Eater's condition, he first had to restore his strength to a certain level.
Third: the convoy had recruited a Botanist Sequence superhuman. Well, to be precise, Huahua wasn't part of the convoy. She belonged to Guard Team One of Guard Team Thirteen, and was still with that unknown little squad of theirs.
But that didn't stop Chen Ye from ordering Huahua to cultivate Ideal Grain Seeds.
Captain Chu Che had been brimming with enthusiasm every day lately. He'd heard that Councilor Chu was now making quite a name for himself in the council.
Fourth: he should pay Huang Jue a visit, too. For one thing, he needed to warn the guy not to do anything reckless. He had already drawn the attention of Guard Team Thirteen, and Chen Ye didn't want to end up as the kind of major villain you saw in TV dramas and movies.
TV dramas often had plots like this: the protagonists went through countless hardships to uncover the truth.
They investigated this way and that, defeating every minor boss along the way, until at last they came face-to-face with the final boss.
And then they discovered the villain had been hiding right beside them all along.
If it really came to that, it would be incredibly awkward.
For another thing, he wanted to see whether the power of faith really worked on his fused left eye.
If it didn't do much, he would get rid of Huang Jue, this God Worshipper, without hesitation.
So what if the guy really was his cousin?
If Huang Jue weren't of some use to him, Chen Ye would probably have killed a God Worshipper like him the first chance he got.
God Worshippers were far too dangerous.
Since when had he even had a cousin like this?
It seemed this kind of thing had happened before.
Whenever Chen Ye began to doubt Huang Jue's identity, all sorts of thoughts crowded into his mind.
For a while, he couldn't spare any attention for the parts of the situation that didn't add up.
Fifth: repairing the Monster Pickup Truck. Gong Yong had been working on it almost without rest these past few days. According to the news Lai Baiwei had passed along, it should be nearly finished today.
It didn't matter when the Little Monster inside the truck recovered. As long as the vehicle itself worked, that was enough.
Otherwise, he'd have to keep borrowing that girl's car. Sun Xixi was easy enough to deal with, but every time Little Fish looked at him, she gave him the stink eye.
The little girl had already made him her sworn enemy for life. Well...
Sixth: the disappearance of Shanghai.
This matter weighed like a mountain on every superhuman in Xi City.
Shanghai wasn't very far from Xi City.
It wasn't as if they could simply ignore Shanghai's disappearance.
What had happened to Shanghai?
Why had it vanished so suddenly?
They needed an explanation, an answer.
If the same thing happened to Xi City, what would they do then?
So the disappearance of Shanghai absolutely had to be investigated.
Once Xi City was a little more settled, Chen Ye would join forces with the Silent Council to look into it.
Even if they couldn't find out the real reason, learning something would still be better than nothing.
There were so many things to deal with. Ever since he became the Chief Seat, one matter after another had piled up, nearly filling every spare moment Chen Ye had for slacking off.
Fortunately, Iron Lion had recovered around this time, so Chen Ye could hand a lot of things over to him.
For now, the only thing Chen Ye could do himself was go check on the repairs to the Monster Pickup Truck.
“Where's Da Yong now?”
Chen Ye casually asked Lai Baiwei.
Lai Baiwei inclined her head slightly as she answered, “Mr. Da Yong is in the repair room on the first floor.”
“The first floor?”
“Yes. Mr. Da Yong converted two rooms on the first floor into his workshop!”
That guy... Wherever he went, he always made sure to set up a workshop.
But it made sense. He was in the Mechanic Sequence. This was his actual job, after all.
“How's your sister been lately?”
“My sister's been all right. She just keeps drinking by herself.”
Hearing that Xu Lina was like this, Chen Ye couldn't help thinking of Sun Xixi back then. Wasn't this much the same?
Xu Lina was probably so down because her time was running out.
By his reckoning, that woman had only about a year and a half left to live.
She hadn't used to be so quiet.
Ever since she became a Wonder Symbiont, she had grown more and more withdrawn.
Thinking about Xu Lina's lifespan, Chen Ye didn't know what to say.
Neither he nor anyone else knew much about superhumans in the Wonder Symbiosis Sequence, so they had even less idea how to help her.
Led by Lai Baiwei, Chen Ye arrived on the first floor of Building 17.
Happy Garden had changed quite a bit by now.
The first floors of many buildings had been renovated, with their rooms converted into street-facing shops.
With Architect Sequence superhumans around, this sort of work wasn't particularly difficult.
As they passed through Happy Garden, Chen Ye saw several fairly attractive survivors bustling about inside the renovated shops on the first floors of the buildings.
Every now and then, he also spotted one or two low-ranked Wonders.
He could also see some Wonder Materials of little value, most of them obtained by superhumans while fighting Anomalies.
Of course, the most popular goods were still Ideal Grain Seeds.
But no matter how thoroughly you searched the three neighboring residential compounds, you wouldn't find anyone selling them.
Well, the Shepherd Convoy did sell mutton.
But it was in high demand, and every time they put some up for sale, it was snapped up in no time.
The Happy Family Convoy also sold eggs.
Life on the move had made many supplies that were once utterly ordinary precious.
Take raising chickens, for instance. Without Feed Silkworms from an Insect Breeder, most convoys simply couldn't raise chickens successfully.
The Fair Convoy had its own specialties, too.
The first was the captain's notebook compiled by Captain Chu Che.
Captain Chu was meticulous about collecting information, which made his notebook extremely valuable.
But unlike before the apocalypse, it couldn't simply be photocopied. Someone had to painstakingly copy it out by hand, stroke by stroke.
Ordinary people couldn't even read Captain Chu Che's notebook.
So Captain Chu had to copy it out himself, one character at a time.
As a result, his notebooks were expensive, and there were very few of them.
So far, he'd sold only one, and it had brought the convoy a substantial amount of supplies.
After that, Captain Chu stopped selling his notebooks. He would only trade them for Ideal Grain Seeds.
The Fair Convoy's second specialty was the king tree leaves they had collected earlier. Since these leaves could help meatworms reproduce, they were naturally a very precious resource.
But Captain Chu only intended to trade them for Ideal Grain Seeds.
Plenty of people came to look, but few had Ideal Grain Seeds to offer in exchange.
The third specialty was Da Yong himself, a Mechanic Sequence superhuman.
Quite a few people had tried to get Da Yong to repair or modify their migration vehicles.
Those seeking his help lined up outside Building 17 every day.
But lately, Chen Ye had goaded Da Yong into focusing all his attention on repairing the Monster Pickup Truck.
So Da Yong had stopped taking jobs modifying migration vehicles for other convoys.
The fourth specialty was also connected to Da Yong.
The Revitalization Stoves he had made earlier had now become necessities for every convoy.
Although they were a little expensive, they were fairly cost-effective in the long run.
