Sequence Highway Survival: I Upgrade Supplies in the Apocalypse
Chapter 786 Iron Lion Suppresses the Riot
Several migration vehicles waiting to be modified were parked outside Gong Yong’s repair shop.
Some belonged to people from Happy Garden, while others belonged to convoys that had just arrived.
Gong Yong might be a bit of a good-for-nothing, but even so, he was a Sequence 4 Mechanic.
He couldn’t repair Wonders that were too complicated, but modifying a migration vehicle was no problem for him.
Gong Yong wasn’t the only Mechanic in Xi City, but he was the only one at Sequence 4. And he was also the only Sequence 4 who was this useless.
When Chen Ye arrived at the repair shop, he happened to see Gong Yong, his eyes bloodshot, tinkering with something inside the Monster Pickup Truck.
Gong Yong’s expression didn’t change when he saw Chen Ye. He barely even looked at him.
Chen Ye didn’t mind. He just leaned over beside the Monster Pickup Truck to watch.
Perhaps sensing Chen Ye’s arrival, a tentacle emerged from beneath the truck and wrapped around his calf, patting it gently like a puppy that hadn’t seen its owner in a long time.
Chen Ye reached out, and another tentacle hurriedly curled around his palm.
He gently stroked the tentacle’s skin.
Clearly, the Little Monster looked far livelier than it had the last time he’d seen it.
There were also far fewer flowers on its tentacles. The ones that remained were mostly wilted.
It probably wouldn’t be long before the Monster Pickup Truck recovered to its former state.
Perhaps once it resumed its upgrade process, it could even advance another level.
“Da Yong, how much longer?”
Chen Ye asked. In response, he got nothing but a cold glance from Gong Yong.
Damn it…
Chen Ye fumed inwardly. This kid was getting bolder by the day. He actually had the nerve to roll his eyes at me?
Da Yong used to be so simple. One look from me, and he’d tremble for ages.
Back then, he could barely get a word out in front of me.
And now he dared to roll his eyes at me!
Gong Yong actually dared to roll his eyes at me?
This… kid’s gotten pretty cocky.
Since he’d been working day and night to repair my truck lately, I’ll let him off this time.
So Chen Ye pretended not to notice Gong Yong’s disrespect.
After leaving Gong Yong’s repair shop,
Chen Ye walked ahead, while Lai Baiwei followed quietly behind him, her long legs in black stockings taking measured steps.
Quite a few people were dazzled by Lai Baiwei’s looks, but no one dared give her more than a glance.
As the two walked along, they ran into plenty of people who knew Chen Ye.
The calls of “Chief Seat” never stopped.
Chen Ye nodded to some of them, while others got no response at all.
He couldn’t help it. If he responded to everyone, he’d be exhausted before he could get through them all.
Everyone approaching Chen Ye, whether a Superhuman or an ordinary survivor, gave him a slight bow and then stood by the roadside to wait for him to pass.
Following behind Chen Ye, Lai Baiwei unconsciously lifted her delicate little face.
This was exactly what it meant to borrow someone else’s prestige.
“How are things on Iron Lion’s end?”
“No news has come in yet, but with Deputy Captain Iron Lion’s strength, it shouldn’t be a problem!”
“Mm. What exactly is going on at Shun'an Residential Community?”
“A few Superhumans from a convoy called the Living Dead Convoy are leading things. It seems they have ideas of their own!”
“That name…”
The Living Dead Convoy. It certainly left an impression.
“Mm. According to them, their convoy’s name means they’re corpses walking through the apocalypse.”
“The convoy isn’t large. Including ordinary people, there are only sixty-eight of them.”
“Earlier, people sent by the Silent Council and the Alliance tried to collect taxes, but they got beaten up.”
“That’s how the news got sent over to us…”
“Blah blah blah…”
They had nothing else to do, so Lai Baiwei explained everything about the situation Iron Lion had gone to handle, from beginning to end.
“What’s the highest Sequence among them?”
“There’s a Witch Doctor Sequence Superhuman called Boss Qian! He’s Sequence 3!”
“Witch Doctor Sequence? A branch of the Physician Sequence?”
Chen Ye vaguely recalled hearing Chu Che mention this Sequence before, which was why the name rang a bell.
“That’s right. There are four Superhumans in their convoy. Besides their captain, who’s a pathfinder, there are three others…”
“Blah blah blah…”
Lai Baiwei opened her notes and gave Chen Ye a detailed account of the Living Dead Convoy.
Chen Ye nodded. “Good work!”
At Chen Ye’s praise, Lai Baiwei practically jolted. It was as if she’d heard the Heavenly Melody, or taken a bite of ice cream on a sweltering summer day.
She hurriedly stood up straight and bowed deeply toward Chen Ye’s back.
“Enough, enough. Hurry up and keep up. Cut that out!”
“Yes!”
In that instant, Lai Baiwei felt as if she’d come alive with renewed energy.
Her cousin had been right. This Chief Seat only liked useful people. All the effort she’d put in these past few days hadn’t been wasted.
Her cousin had also said that no matter how beautiful a woman was, if she had no value to offer, this Chief Seat would cast her aside without hesitation.
To him, a person’s worth came down to their usefulness.
“From now on, if Deputy Captain Iron Lion can handle something, send it to him. If you can avoid bothering me, then don’t bother me!”
“Mm… We’ll do it that way from now on!”
Chen Ye spoke lazily.
He was already sick of this blasted Chief Seat position. Now that Iron Lion was awake, they could send all the troublesome matters his way.
The guy might not be very bright, but if you told him what not to do, he’d follow the instructions to the letter.
There was no one Chen Ye trusted more than Iron Lion.
Lai Baiwei: “…”
……
“Boss, if we do this, I’m afraid we’ll upset those people!”
“If we draw that legendary Chief Seat over here, we’ll be…”
The sinister, wiry young man spoke in a slightly hoarse voice.
Standing there, he looked like a monkey. His whole body seemed poised to explode at any moment, like a dried-up branch that had been withered for ages.
There was something strangely complex about his presence.
But when he mentioned the title “Chief Seat,” fear crept into the voice of this complicated man.
It couldn’t be helped. Chen Ye’s position as Chief Seat carried far too much weight.
Even someone as terrifying as You Hu hadn’t been able to withstand a single move from him.
With only a handful of people in their Living Dead Convoy, they had virtually no chance of standing against the other side.
“Third Brother, you’re worrying too much. Even if we don’t do this, someone else will!”
“And it’s not just the people here at Shun'an Residential Community who are unhappy with them. I hear even some convoys in their own Happy Garden are expressing discontent!”
The speaker was a woman who had concealed herself completely inside a windproof jacket.
Her voice was clear and ethereal, yet full of reason.
Beside her sat a fat man who looked like a mountain of flesh. He hadn’t said a word from beginning to end.
If Chen Ye saw him, he might think he was Sha Fei’s biological brother.
These three were the Superhumans from Wan Chao’s convoy.
They were also the ones who held real power in Wan Chao’s convoy.
The woman, still completely hidden inside her windproof jacket, continued, “People everywhere are voicing their dissatisfaction with them. So what if they have a powerful Superhuman like the Chief Seat?”
“Trouble is flaring up everywhere. They put out one fire, and another springs up. Can they really handle it all?”
Her voice was full of mockery.
“Besides, this is our last chance!”
The words came out muffled by the fat pressing against his vocal cords.
They weren’t exactly pleasant to listen to, either.
It was the mountain-of-flesh-like obese man who had spoken.
As he talked, the fat on his body quivered slightly.
If Chen Ye were here, he would definitely connect this man to Sha Fei, whom he had encountered at the Oasis.
“We arrived at just the right time. Any earlier, and they wouldn’t have taken Xi City. Any later, and they’d have already set the rules.”
“At this point, we might still be able to fight for something!”
“If we don’t fight for it now, we might never get another chance!”
“We know there are still Anomalies outside, but… if this world has nothing in it for us, then what does it matter if we destroy it?”
“We should’ve been dead long ago!”
