Chapter 136: Chapter 136: She No Longer Wants to Sit and Await Death

Most importantly, the girl was dripping with blood, but none of it was her own.

He only remembered her eyes, which were unusually bright.

Like the brightest star in the sky.

At this thought, his eyes narrowed slightly as he looked at Shen Yue. In that moment, it was as if the little girl’s eyes and Shen Yue’s had become one.

He was shocked beyond belief.

His expression changed.

"That little girl was you?"

That confirmed it for Shen Yue.

’So the memory fragments were real.’

’The original owner really was hunted down in the Gobi back then, and she even ran into Huang Ziyue.’

Although her memories didn’t explain why the original owner was being hunted, or why she was in that barren, scorching wasteland, she could feel it.

From that day forward, the image of Huang Ziyue had been deeply etched into the original owner’s heart.

’No wonder. No wonder I was so devastated that night when I saw him about to be killed by the man in black.’

’It even became hard to breathe.’

’The emotions for Huang Ziyue that had erupted in that moment had been so inexplicable, so overwhelming and intense.’

’It was all because the original owner had held him in her heart since she was just a little girl.’

Shen Yue looked at him.

"Do you remember what happened after that?"

She wanted to find out from Huang Ziyue what happened to the original owner afterward.

In the memory fragments, all she saw was the original owner running barefoot, endlessly, across the Gobi. For several nights in a row, she’d had the same dream of herself running, never stopping.

Her heart was filled with absolute terror.

She ran and ran, for who knows how long, as if a vicious demon was hot on her heels.

But her pursuers still caught up to her quickly.

But just as they raised their blades and closed in, just as terror consumed her every thought, the men suddenly vanished. All she could see was a ground soaked in blood.

And then, she started running again.

For several nights, this scene replayed itself over and over.

The tension and terror of the dream were so palpable that she found it hard to calm down even after waking.

Until last night.

She continued her endless run in the memory and was once again overtaken by her pursuers.

Just as she was giving in to despair, a figure in black descended from the sky.

His black robes fluttered and his ink-black hair flowed, like an Asura born of the night itself. He stood before her, shielding her from the men.

Without a word, he engaged them in battle.

During the fight, she got a clear look at his divine face and committed it to memory.

But that was where the memory ended.

She didn’t know if Huang Ziyue had won, or what had happened next.

After confirming she was the little girl, Huang Ziyue’s expression flickered through several emotions for a long moment.

His eyes seemed to hide a turbulent undercurrent.

He stared at her, momentarily stunned.

Hearing her ask what happened next, he studied her for a long moment before asking tentatively,

"You don’t remember?"

Shen Yue noticed his strange expression and sensed something was wrong.

"What’s wrong? Did something happen afterward?"

Huang Ziyue confirmed that she didn’t remember.

He quickly composed himself, schooling his features before shaking his head.

"Nothing. After we made it out of the Gobi, you left on your own."

Shen Yue listened. ’So, does that mean Huang Ziyue single-handedly killed all those heavily cloaked, gray-robed pursuers?’

’He really did save the original owner.’

’And then he brought her out of the Gobi with him?’

’But then why did the memory fragments show a field of corpses, blood everywhere, and Huang Ziyue himself collapsed in a pool of blood, severely injured?’

’If that’s what happened, how could he possibly have walked out of the Gobi with her?’

Seeing the look on Huang Ziyue’s face, she felt he wasn’t telling her the truth. He was definitely hiding something.

’It seems this incident from the original owner’s memory isn’t so simple.’

’Even Huang Ziyue was this shocked and reluctant to speak of it when the memory was brought up.’

’He wasn’t even willing to tell her what happened.’

Shen Yue didn’t call him out on it. Instead, she said,

"I see. It just came back to me all of a sudden. I never would have guessed... fate is a funny thing. We’ve met before, and you saved my life. Thank you."

’To be precise, he saved the original owner’s life, which is the same as saving mine.’

Then, she got straight to the point.

"But my memory of that time is hazy. I don’t really know what happened, which is why I wanted to ask you about it."

As Huang Ziyue listened, the hand at his side clenched into a fist.

’He really hadn’t expected it.’

’That the little girl from all those years ago was Shen Yue.’

’And that she’d forgotten what happened?’

His throat tightened. He tried his best to keep his expression neutral.

"It was nothing."

"You were just a child. It’s best not to dwell on some memories."

Shen Yue watched him and nodded.

"Right."

"Still, you didn’t recognize me. The Great Emperor Master must have a lot on his mind."

’They’d been through thick and thin together, after all.’

’The original owner remembered him for all these years, but this Flood Dragon didn’t recognize her at all.’

’Then again, I can’t blame him. The original owner had probably been abused and had just barely escaped her captors. She couldn’t have looked like much back then.’

’She might have been pockmarked, an ugly duckling. No wonder the Flood Dragon didn’t recognize her.’

But when Huang Ziyue heard her words, his gaze darkened, and the hand at his side clenched once more.

’It wasn’t that he didn’t recognize her.’

’He just never imagined that the little girl from all those years ago was still alive.’

Shen Yue looked at him.

"By the way, do you remember where that Gobi was?"

She could feel that place was connected to the secrets the original owner carried.

’Why was the original owner in that place all those years ago?’

’Was she kidnapped? Or something else?’

’Why did the original owner lose her memory of it?’

’Besides, the gray-robed men hunting her didn’t seem like ordinary people. They gave off the same sinister vibe as a dark power, just like those men in black.’

The moment Shen Yue mentioned the Gobi, Huang Ziyue made the connection between the people who had hunted the little girl there and the men in black.

He finally understood. Shen Yue had been hunted since she was just a child.

Trapped in such a perilous situation.

And he had met her, so small back then, ten years ago.

’He couldn’t help but wonder, how on earth had she survived all these years?’

He was now completely certain that Shen Yue was hiding a massive secret, and that her identity was far from simple.

His train of thought shifted, and he asked,

"You want to go to that Gobi?"

Shen Yue didn’t hide her intentions.

"I think there’s a good chance the men in black have their stronghold there."

’So, she wasn’t going to just sit around and wait to be killed.’

’She wanted to make a plan and take the fight to them.’

’Find their stronghold and get to the bottom of all this.’

Huang Ziyue, of course, had already guessed as much. The heavily cloaked, gray-robed men had hunted Shen Yue in the Gobi back then, and now these men in black had appeared, determined to eliminate her.

He also felt the two groups must be connected.

Perhaps that Gobi from all those years ago was the hiding place of the men in black.

"I stumbled into that Gobi by accident. I went back to investigate later, but I could never find the entrance again."

Shen Yue’s brow furrowed as she listened.

’It seemed the Gobi was a hidden place, just as she’d suspected.’

In her memories, the original owner’s impression of the Gobi was of entering a dead zone—desolate and suffused with a strange, unsettling aura.

It was as if it didn’t belong anywhere in the Beast World.

Huang Ziyue added,

"I can have my men continue to search for the entrance. I’ll let you know if they find anything."

Shen Yue didn’t dwell on it.

After all, Huang Ziyue didn’t know where the Gobi was either, and she couldn’t go right away.

’I have to be fully prepared before I go.’

’At the very least, I need to make sure the little cubs are settled.’

She nodded. "Alright. I’ll leave it to you, then."

Huang Ziyue looked at her, a hint of displeasure in his eyes at her formal tone.

He gazed at her, his eyes deep and intense.

"I’m your man."

"It’s my place to do these things for you."

Shen Yue coughed. It was probably because of the original owner, but her heart couldn’t help but race whenever she faced him.

"Oh. I get it."

After nodding, she couldn’t resist asking timidly,

"Um... can I ask how old you are, exactly?"
