Seven Cubs, Seven Fathers, Zero Days Off
Chapter 147: He Only Wants to See Her Now
Chapter 147: Chapter 147: He Only Wants to See Her Now
Since it was their first time fighting the Mutated Lizardmen, Si Muye and his men had absolutely no experience.
After a few clashes, they realized that everything the she-wolf had told them was true.
These monsters were tough as nails, impossible to kill, and their numbers were endless.
They came one after another, mindless beasts with no sense of pain. They feared neither death nor injury—brutes living only for the thrill of the slaughter.
"Third Young Master, why are there so many of these things?"
"How long are we going to have to keep fighting?"
Just then, a particularly large Lizardman lunged at Si Muye.
Its sharp fangs and claws seemed poised to tear him to shreds.
"Third Young Master, look out!"
A warrior beside him lashed out with a vicious kick.
The Lizardman was sent flying, but not before its claws accidentally slashed the warrior’s leg.
Seeing the other Lizardmen swarming toward them, Si Muye struck out with his palm.
"Retreat! Don’t get bogged down in this fight."
The group quickly broke through the encirclement, retreating into the forest and leaping up into the trees.
Below, the Lizardmen continued their reckless charge, even attempting to scramble up the tree trunks.
The men had no choice but to dart from branch to branch.
They fled through the forest, fighting off the Lizardmen that pursued them.
After a grueling, night-long battle, they finally reached a riverbank just as the sky began to lighten.
The moment daylight broke, the pursuing Lizardmen retreated like a receding tide.
The men collapsed by the riverbank, gasping for breath.
All of them were completely exhausted.
"Thank goodness. It looks like these brutes only come out at night!"
"Third Young Master, your arm is injured!"
The two warriors lying beside him saw a scratch on Si Muye’s arm.
When facing a siege by so many Lizardmen, getting scratched by their sharp claws was almost unavoidable.
So Si Muye didn’t pay it any mind.
Besides, he’d gotten the scratch while saving a warrior who had fallen from a branch and was nearly overwhelmed.
He glanced at his arm.
"It’s nothing, just a small wound!"
Just then, the Ancient Bear Family warrior who had been scratched on the leg began to feel feverish.
He stood up uncomfortably and walked towards the river.
He had intended to get a drink to quench his thirst.
But the moment he touched the cool water, he felt a sense of relief and began splashing it over his body.
His body, however, only grew hotter. Splashing water was no longer enough, so he started stripping off his clothes.
He wished he could bury his whole body in the water.
Yet even then, he felt a relentless agitation in his body.
The man’s commotion in the water made Si Muye sense that something was wrong.
"Go see what’s wrong with him."
Hearing this, a warrior beside him stood up and walked towards the river.
But before he could get close, the naked warrior in the water whipped around and lunged at him, radiating waves of intense heat.
The warrior was shocked. "Hey, what are you doing?"
This crazed behavior, clearly driven by some kind of poison, stunned Si Muye and the others.
Several of them rushed over and pinned the man down in the water.
But with the poison taking hold, the man had completely lost his mind.
His muscles bulged as he furiously ripped at the last shreds of his clothing.
"Hot, so hot, this is awful!"
Si Muye grabbed his arm and felt the spiritual power raging uncontrollably within him. He immediately knew something was terribly wrong.
"His spiritual power is out of control. This is a sign of his bestial instincts taking over!"
A nearby warrior asked:
"How is this possible?"
"How could his bestial instincts flare up so suddenly?"
Normally, even when a male lost control of his bestial instincts, it was never this sudden or without warning.
Si Muye said, "Hold him down."
As several warriors quickly pinned the berserk man in the water, Si Muye’s eyes fell upon a pitch-black claw mark on his leg.
His deep eyes narrowed.
"This is bad. He’s been poisoned. Those brutes carry a toxin."
The other warriors reacted instantly, their gazes snapping to Si Muye in alarm.
"Then, Third Young Master, you’re also injured!"
"What do we do now?"
Si Muye glanced at the scratch on his own arm. It hadn’t turned completely black yet, but it was getting there.
He straightened up.
"While the poison in me hasn’t taken full effect, we must leave here quickly and find the person I’m looking for."
At his command, the men knocked the poisoned warrior unconscious and bound him with rope.
Then they quickly followed Si Muye, pushing deeper into Wilderness Mountain.
But after half a day of hard travel, Si Muye finally reached the cave where he had lived with Shen Yue, only to find her and the children long gone.
Even the forest in front of the cave had been utterly destroyed, as if by a massive battle.
On his way there, Si Muye had noticed that the surrounding forest was littered with snapped trees and shattered rocks, as if some colossal creature had rampaged through.
He searched the area around the cave again and again, but there was no trace of Shen Yue’s scent. Panic began to set in.
’Could something have happened to A Yue?’
’No. It’s not possible.’
’Nothing can happen to my A Yue.’
Just then, a warrior searching nearby reappeared.
"Young Master, there’s a bamboo house on the hill ahead. Could the person you’re looking for be there?"
Si Muye’s head snapped up. "Where? Lead the way. Now."
Soon, the group arrived in front of a bamboo house.
The bamboo house stood before him, real and solid, looking exactly like the blueprint Shen Yue had once given him.
Si Muye’s heart was about to jump out of his chest.
’That’s it.’
’This is A Yue’s house.’
The warriors beside him stared in shock at the novel and unique structure.
They never expected to find such a peculiar bamboo house and courtyard hidden deep in the mountain forest.
Si Muye didn’t bother to wonder who had built this house for A Yue. Perhaps it was the members of the Golden Lion Clan from when he left, or maybe it was someone else entirely.
He just wanted to see her now.
He strode forward quickly, his heart pounding with excitement.
He desperately hoped that as soon as he stepped inside, A Yue would open the door and greet him with a smile.
The face he missed so dearly, the one he longed for every night, would finally be before him.
Yet as he stood in the courtyard, not a sound came from within the house.
The courtyard was empty, save for a few flowers and a stone table.
The rest seemed to have been cleared out in a single night.
A terrible premonition began to form in his heart. Worse, he couldn’t detect the faintest trace of A Yue’s scent.
He burst through the door and searched every room, one by one.
Finally, his heart plummeted.
The other warriors emerged from the various rooms.
"Third Young Master, it looks like the people who lived here left several days ago!"
"They probably sensed the danger in the mountains and moved away!"
When Si Muye heard this, he suddenly understood.
’That’s right. With Wilderness Mountain in such chaos, A Yue is far too clever to stay in such a dangerous place.’
’The house was packed up so neatly. That must mean she moved out deliberately!’
’But the entire Wilderness Mountain is now the Mutated Lizardmen’s hunting ground. Where could she possibly go alone with the children?’
’Nowhere else is safe. She must have sought refuge in a city.’
He considered it. The closest city to Wilderness Mountain was Barbaric City.
At this thought, hope reignited within Si Muye.
"Quick, we’re going back to Barbaric City!"
But just as the words left his mouth, the poison he had been suppressing for half a day finally took hold.
Waves of heat washed over him, making him incredibly uncomfortable.
He could feel his spiritual power surging uncontrollably through his body.
A Yue’s beautiful face flashed unbidden through his mind.
He longed to hold her right now, to pull her tightly into his arms, as if that alone could quell the fever raging through him.
