Chapter 188 - 186: Only I Can Do This
Chapter 188: Chapter 186: Only I Can Do This
She couldn’t listen anymore.
She couldn’t imagine how a person so immaculate, as pristine as precious jade on a snowy mountain, could be so cruelly abused by these vicious townspeople.
Whipping, severing his tendons, breaking his bones, bleeding him out, skinning him...
She had always thought herself cold and heartless, but hearing this, she knew she could never be so unfeeling.
She couldn’t bear the thought of the one she cared for suffering even the slightest harm.
’To think my fox has suffered such agony.’
’How could I ever let this go?’
’And it was all because of me.’
’As his Female Master, I failed to protect him, allowing him to be tortured endlessly.’
’I let him fall, step by step, into the abyss, to suffer a fate he never deserved, to be brought so low.’
’He had never done anything to wrong me. On the contrary, I was the one who schemed and trapped him in all of this.’
’I owed him.’
’And now, my debt to him has grown even greater.’
She slowly closed her eyes. The ache in her chest was so real it made her heart race and her body tremble.
’My fox, you have to be okay.’
’Wait for me. I will find you.’
’I won’t let you face the abyss alone again.’
She opened her eyes and stared at the vicious townspeople, at this mob that couldn’t tell right from wrong, who had inflicted such senseless suffering upon Bai Chaosi.
The anger in her heart had already festered into hatred.
’She hated how barbaric and unreasonable this Beast World was, so savage that no one even had the capacity for independent thought.’
Bai Chaosi had done nothing wrong.
He had absolutely no connection to the members of the Fox Clan who had massacred Luoxi Town all those years ago, yet he was forced to suffer this inhuman, undeserved catastrophe.
What a corrupt and stubbornly backward mindset this world possessed.
She had just strangled the town leader to death in front of everyone to make an example of him. Otherwise, these people wouldn’t have been frightened enough to spill everything.
But now, she truly wanted to slaughter every last one of these stubborn, brainless thugs to vent her fury and avenge Bai Chaosi.
So, she raised her hand, ready to commit mass murder for Bai Chaosi’s sake.
Seeing her movement, the people on the ground immediately huddled together in terror, screaming:
"Don’t kill us, we know we were wrong!"
"We beg you, spare us!"
"I have children, spare my life!"
"We know we were wrong! We know we blamed an innocent man! Please, don’t kill us!"
Shen Yue’s throat tightened. Glaring at the crowd, she said coldly:
"Can simply saying you were wrong make up for the suffering an innocent man endured?"
Huang Ziyue, who was beside her, had stood behind her from the very beginning. No matter what Shen Yue wanted to do, he would be her spearhead.
He narrowed his eyes at the people on the ground and raised his hand without the slightest hesitation.
"No need to dirty your hands. I’ll do it."
’He’d killed far too many people in his time.’
’What was one more massacre?’
He could see that Shen Yue wanted to avenge her fox. Otherwise, she’d never be able to get over this.
And he wanted to as well.
Even though the fox was his rival in love, he wouldn’t stand by and let others abuse his opponent in such a manner.
Shen Yue looked at the crowd on the ground—the old, the weak, the sick, and the children, all weeping piteously. She took a deep breath.
’I can’t be purely good, but I can’t be purely evil, either.’
’But hurting someone who belongs to me is unforgivable.’
’I can turn from good to evil. Everyone must pay the price for their actions.’
’Every single one of them has Bai Chaosi’s innocent blood on their hands.’
And so, her hand did not strike down.
"I have to be the one to do this."
With that said, she waved her hand, and an immense power swept toward them.
The next moment, they all collapsed.
She didn’t kill them outright. Instead, she inflicted unimaginable pain, slicing countless wounds into their bodies. She wanted them to feel what Bai Chaosi felt—being skinned, being bled out, left hanging by a thread, barely clinging to life.
Everyone lay on the ground, blood streaming endlessly from their wounds.
Seeing this, Shen Yue waved her hand again, and in an instant, the townspeople were lifted from the ground and hung from the trees.
Just as Bai Chaosi had been, tied to a tree to be bled out.
Looking at them, she could see an image of her fox, tied to a tree and tortured by them just two days prior.
The ache in her chest returned.
Without a single lingering glance, she headed for the home of the "Xiao Ya" they had mentioned.
And all the while, Huang Ziyue followed silently behind her.
He could feel the somber aura radiating from her.
’He knew Shen Yue had been overcome with the urge to kill, but at her core, she was a kind person, full of compassion. How could she cruelly slaughter an entire town?’
’That’s why he had offered to do it for her.’
’Let his be the hands stained with blood.’
’But she had been unwilling. She refused him, preferring to do it herself.’
’He knew she was staining her hands for Bai Chaosi, that this was her way of making amends to him.’
’He never thought she would be willing to go this far for Bai Chaosi.’
’In that moment, he understood her, but he was also jealous.’
’He was jealous that Bai Chaosi was the one who could make her break her own rules, the one who could push her to such lengths.’
When Shen Yue arrived at Xiao Ya’s home, she found some of the Rabbit Clan female’s clothing.
As she sensed the aura on it, her expression faltered.
"She knows her pharmacology!"
Huang Ziyue glanced at the handkerchief in her hand and also caught the faint medicinal scent.
"This scent seems to be from an herb that masks one’s aura."
Of course, Shen Yue knew it was the scent of Hidden Breath Grass. After so many years in the Beast World, there wasn’t a medicinal herb she didn’t know.
She just hadn’t expected this female to think of using Hidden Breath Grass to conceal her and Bai Chaosi’s auras.
It seemed the reason the people of Luoxi Town had searched for a whole day without finding Xiao Ya and her fox was because of the Hidden Breath Grass.
But while the herb could temporarily shield the auras of those with weak spiritual power, it was no match for her and Huang Ziyue.
Finding Bai Chaosi would still be easy for her.
Her biggest worry now, however, was Bai Chaosi’s life.
’He was so grievously injured. I’m afraid he won’t be able to hold on until I get there.’
’I’m afraid that by the time I see him, it will already be too late.’
So when Shen Yue and Huang Ziyue followed the trail of the two auras all the way to Li City, they both froze for a moment.
They hadn’t expected Xiao Ya to be so audacious as to bring Bai Chaosi into the territory of Ye Country.
For nearly a century, Ye Country and the K Empire had been rival powers, clashing openly and in secret hundreds of times.
The number of soldiers who had died in border skirmishes and major battles between the two nations was immeasurable.
For Xiao Ya to dare bring a nobleman from an enemy nation into Ye Country... if Bai Chaosi’s identity were discovered, it would be far more serious than simply harboring an important enemy commander.
It was highly likely that the people of Ye Country would use Bai Chaosi as leverage, potentially triggering a war between the two nations.
And so, Shen Yue and Huang Ziyue stood outside the city gates, their brows furrowed in thought.
They had to get into Li City. They couldn’t possibly leave Bai Chaosi behind in Ye Country.
They just couldn’t force their way in. They needed to find a way to enter openly, without raising suspicion.
