Chapter 190: Chapter 187: I’m Here, Don’t Be Afraid

The voice cut through the crowd, reaching the ears of those below.

Xiao Ya and Guard Lu immediately looked up.

Xiao Ya looked anxiously toward the area behind the curtain.

"Thank you, Doctor! Thank you, Doctor!"

With that, she and Guard Lu started to carry Bai Chaosi upstairs.

But just as they reached the top of the stairs, a tall, slender man with a powerful aura, dressed entirely in plain clothes, emerged from behind the curtain.

A Cheng stepped out, and his gaze immediately fell on the barely breathing Bai Chaosi in Xiao Ya’s arms.

His chest tightened. Fighting back the tears welling in his eyes, he spoke.

"The Doctor said that no unauthorized personnel are allowed inside. I’ll take the patient in."

Xiao Ya froze for a moment. She looked at A Cheng, hesitating as she held the fox in her arms.

"Could you ask the Doctor to make an exception and let me go in too? My Beast Husband is severely injured. He needs me by his side!"

A Cheng’s eyes swept over her.

The look in his eyes made Xiao Ya’s heart tremble.

It was as if that single glance had seen through all her lies, filling her with fear.

’But then again,’ she thought, ’I’ve never been to Ye Country before, and I don’t know anyone at this clinic.’ Mustering her courage, she met his gaze.

But when A Cheng heard her say "Beast Husband," his eyes grew even colder.

He looked at her impatiently, his voice stiff.

"The Doctor has his rules. He requires quiet when treating patients, so unauthorized people are forbidden. Do you want to save him, or do you want to disturb the Doctor’s treatment?"

At his words, even Guard Lu, who was standing beside her, began to persuade Xiao Ya.

"Xiao Ya, you should give your Beast Husband to him. Since it’s the Doctor’s rule, we should follow it."

"Saving him is what’s important right now. We can just wait out here!"

Xiao Ya had no other choice. She nodded and handed over the person in her arms.

"Then I’ll have to trouble the Doctor. You must save my Beast Husband. He has to be okay!"

"If anything happens to him, I won’t be able to go on living!"

Listening from the side, Guard Lu was unexpectedly touched by how deeply devoted Xiao Ya was to her Beast Husband.

His gaze toward Xiao Ya filled with admiration.

A Cheng, however, shot Xiao Ya a look of utter contempt, as if disgusted by her display of devotion.

"Wait outside. And be quiet."

After speaking, A Cheng turned coldly and walked behind the curtain.

Inside the room stood Shen Yue and Huang Ziyue.

The Healing Doctor who had been on duty was now being held at knifepoint by Wu Huo, forced to stand aside.

Looking at the fox A Cheng carried in, even through the cloth wrapped around him, Shen Yue felt she could already imagine the scene she was about to witness.

She had braced herself, but when A Cheng carefully placed Bai Chaosi on the bed...

When he removed the cloth wrapping and revealed the horrific body beneath...

Shen Yue froze in place.

A deep chill rose from the soles of her feet, like damp air seeping from the ground, crawling relentlessly up her legs.

The bone-deep cold spread through her entire body.

It made her tremble uncontrollably.

She couldn’t believe that the mangled body before her was Bai Chaosi...

There wasn’t a single patch of intact fur on his entire body. It was as if he had been flayed alive.

The raw, bloody flesh was practically rotting, even emitting a foul stench.

Some of the putrid flesh hanging from his body was sloughing off, oozing pus...

A single glance was enough to make an onlooker retch in disgust...

But Shen Yue’s chest ached so much she couldn’t breathe, as if she were suffocating.

’This is the fox?’

’This is Bai Chaosi? The one who was so bright and noble, like a rare jewel on a snowy summit?’

’How could this have happened...’

Even though she had prepared herself, she couldn’t accept that the fox she was seeing was so horrifying and completely unrecognizable.

Even Huang Ziyue, standing beside her, slowed his breathing, his pupils constricting again and again.

He had imagined the fox would be in bad shape, but he had never expected this.

This was pain no ordinary person could endure.

He had been flayed alive!

Even for someone like him, who had lived for so many years and witnessed countless forms of torture, the sight was so gruesome he couldn’t bear to look directly at it.

One could only imagine the agony the fox had endured.

To have survived such brutal torture, to still be breathing, was nothing short of a miracle.

The sight was enough to send a chill down anyone’s spine.

It was impossible to believe this was the same Bai Chaosi from before—the proud, noble man who would bicker with them, who always had to come out on top, whose magnificence outshone the snow itself.

Beside them, A Cheng was covering his mouth, sobbing uncontrollably.

After one look, he was so choked with grief that he didn’t dare look again.

His sobs finally snapped Shen Yue back to her senses.

In that moment, any guilt she had felt for hurting the town’s people to avenge Bai Chaosi vanished completely.

She was glad she had chosen to deal with them herself.

She hadn’t let a single one of them off easy.

She had paid them back for everything they had done to Bai Chaosi.

Her methods may not have been as cruel as what they did to Bai Chaosi, but at least she hadn’t let her saintly compassion get the better of her. She hadn’t let them escape. She hadn’t spared a single one.

Thinking of this, Shen Yue bit her lip hard and took a step forward.

The Doctor, still held by Wu Huo, was also stunned by the gruesome state of the fox on the bed. He watched as Shen Yue walked toward him step by step.

He couldn’t help but shake his head and whisper:

"Too horrible, this is just too horrible! Monsters! What kind of person would inflict this kind of torture on someone?"

"It’s no use you going over there. This man can’t be saved. Even an S Class Healing Doctor couldn’t do anything, let alone a B-level doctor like me."

"Take another look or two, then you should just bury him. Put him out of his misery, spare him the pain!"

He finished, expecting Shen Yue and the man holding him to give up.

But to his surprise, Wu Huo didn’t loosen his grip at all; instead, his hold tightened.

He then saw the woman in red had already sat down carefully on the edge of the bed.

He couldn’t help but remind her:

"Why won’t you listen? I know you kidnapped me because you’re desperate to save him, but I’m powerless to help!"

"Look at him! How could he possibly live? He might have a breath left in him, but he’s as good as dead. You’d be better off burying him now and letting him find peace..."

"Shut up."

Shen Yue’s head snapped toward him, her star-like eyes filled with an icy chill.

"Say the word ’dead’ one more time, and I’ll rip out your tongue."

Her gaze was a mixture of rage and agony—so pained, so cold.

At the same time, a harrowing pressure erupted from her.

The Doctor was so frightened he instantly clamped his mouth shut.

He felt incredibly wronged.

’What’s with the attitude...’

’I was just telling the truth.’

’While he understood that the families of patients often didn’t want to hear the truth, as a doctor, he had to inform them of the facts. No matter how hard it was to accept, they had to accept it!’

Shen Yue saw the Doctor lower his gaze and fall silent.

Only then did she take a deep breath and turn back to the fox on the bed. She slowly raised a hand, wanting to gently stroke his ruined body, but she didn’t know where to touch.

She was afraid that the slightest touch would hurt him.

Her eyes reddened without her realizing it. She slowly opened her mouth, her voice low and hoarse.

"Fox, I’m here. Don’t be afraid."
