Chapter 950: A Mom Who Dreams of Getting Rich Every Day

  • Next Chapter

Shen Xiaoju came from a well-off family and had seen a lot, so of course he’d seen more than most. He didn’t want his teammates getting caught up in messy relationship drama and ending up affecting the image of the whole team.

Xie Musheng said, “There’s so much going on every day, and you still have time to fall in love? Must be because the coach isn’t giving you enough to do.”

“The game’s this fun, I don’t have time to date.” Chi Fang spoke as he got familiar with a new hero. He didn’t feel bored at all, his face full of excitement. “What I’m really curious about is Brother Leng and Coach. Wonder when those two are finally gonna talk things out.”

Taking advantage of the fact the two weren’t around, they shifted the topic onto them.

“When they’re not together they already make us feel like third wheels. If they actually get together, how are we supposed to live?” Ma Xuan was speechless.

Xie Musheng reminded him, “Keep it down. If they hear you, they won’t bring you snacks when they get back.”

“Come on, come on, let’s play a couple of fun matches.” Ma Xuan decided to toss those messy thoughts aside.

In the blink of an eye, Ah Chen and the others were about to take the college entrance exam.

All these years, Ah Chen had always been first, and Jian Mo had done exactly what he said he would—every time the countywide rankings came out, he was in second place.

The Canglan Team had blown up even outside the esports; countless outsiders heard that not only were they godlike at the game, but their grades were stellar too, and that’s how they got into the scene.

Ever since the Canglan Team started competing, it could be called the Canglan Dynasty. To this day they had a twelve-title streak, having dominated this game’s competitive scene for three years and become a legend in countless people’s eyes. Even so, they still contributed a ton of iconic moments to the game.

Every single match, they managed to make it exciting.

With each patch and version update, Ah Chen kept developing all kinds of off-meta comps, their play getting more and more tricky and unconventional, drawing countless teams to study them. Every time people thought the other teams had fully figured Canglan out, they’d realize Canglan had cooked up something new.

Over the past three years, the audience had been looking forward to every one of their matches. Whenever they played, tickets were basically impossible to get.

A lot of teams were improving too. Some powerhouse squads could occasionally make Canglan trip in a small game.

But it didn’t really matter.

As long as they were there and Coach Chen was there, they could pull it back the next game. To this day, no team had ever beaten them into a state of hopeless collapse.

It seemed like nothing could shake their confidence.

Some people said, just wait until they’re older—after all, every esports pro has a peak.

Once upon a time, there had been so many esports prodigies on this stage, covered head to toe in glory, who in the end still had to step down because of age. If they refused to retire, then with their form declining, staying on would only look worse and worse.

But Canglan’s peak was still ongoing. It had only been two or three years; they weren’t even twenty yet and were smack in their golden period, with a long road still ahead of them.

It was just that, after they completed the Grand Slam, the Canglan Team had fulfilled their dream, and none of the members had any regrets left. Even if they stayed in top form, they’d still have to step off the stage someday. These three years had been hectic—aside from school, it was all practice and matches. Now that their dream had come true, everyone wanted to properly rest and do something else for a while, then move on to bringing up rookies.

Compared to letting their form slide and leaving in embarrassment, they all felt stepping down at their peak was the best way to go.

Those teams who wanted to beat Canglan’s main roster were destined never to realize that goal.

Just in time for university too, their schedules would definitely open up more; it wouldn’t be as intense as high school.

“If you really get the itch, we can play with the second team.” Ma Xuan grinned cheekily. “We can even occasionally scrim other teams, let them relive the good old days, haha.”

Even Xie Musheng couldn’t help laughing. “With how the second team is now, they’ve got a shot at the championship, but the other teams are strong too. If some other squad ends up winning, we’ll just invite them over to play us.”

“Yeah, yeah, I like that.” Chi Fang burst out laughing. “So what if they’re champs? In our hands, they still gotta take a beating.”

Jian Mo also laughed out loud, and the more he thought about it, the more fun it seemed.

But he quickly remembered something else, his expression turning serious. “Don’t get cocky. To this day, we’re still not the strongest.”

The others fell silent. Right—up till now, they still weren’t the strongest team.

There was another mysterious squad in Canglan, basically their scrim and training team. Over the years, they scrimmed with other teams, but more often than not, they trained against this familiar in-house team.

Whenever they started getting a little full of themselves, the training team would smack them right back down.

They’d become famous young, and in these three years they’d picked up so many titles that it was impossible not to float sometimes—to sneak in a few little flashy moves on stage.

Once they got offstage, their coach would just give them a single glance and say lightly, “Go back and practice.”

Then they’d spend the whole night getting beaten up.

The five of them were very reflective about it. If not for the coach, there’s no way they could’ve gotten twelve straight titles. Everyone has moments of slack and arrogance, especially for a five-man team like them. Without someone constantly cracking the whip, who knew what they’d have turned into.

Someone like their captain might be able to keep himself steady.

But for guys like Ma Xuan and Chi Fang, who were already so jumpy and wild, it’d be way too easy to lose because of arrogance.

“After this tournament, once the college entrance exam’s over and things calm down, let’s properly drill the second team. Each of us will be responsible for our own lane.” Jian Mo clapped his hands, having thought up a brilliant idea. “When they’re on stage, whoever’s lane messes up the most, we, as their masters, take the punishment.”

Everyone happily agreed. They all cracked their knuckles, as if they’d ushered in a whole new challenge. Just hearing it sounded pretty fun.

Ma Xuan squinted at Jian Mo. “Captain, we gotta set one rule first—you’re not allowed to secretly ask the coach for one-on-one lessons. That’d be unfair.”

The others all nodded in unison. Exactly. The more they thought about it, the more they felt their captain would totally pull something like that.

They’d experienced the coach’s skills firsthand, and it had left a deep impression.

“Can’t you guys just go ask him too?” Jian Mo shot back. “If I can, you can as well.”

The group lapsed into silence, glanced at each other, and said no more. Blocking the captain’s path was fine, but they couldn’t block their own.

Ah Chen sat to the side flipping through stats, listening to them talk, eyes smiling.

More than half a year ago, the Canglan Club had already selected suitable rookies. Ah Chen hadn’t gotten too involved with that; Jian Mo and the other four handled it. In the later matches, they’d even let these rookies sub in one by one to test the waters, and the results were decent. Maybe the second team couldn’t match the five of them, but their overall level was still top tier. Whether they’d achieve good results in the future would depend on themselves.

The initial batch of second-team members they recruited were all pretty young. Back then, Jian Mo and the other four were dead set on winning the Grand Slam and weren’t about to give up their spots anytime soon. If the rookies just stayed in Canglan, they wouldn’t get much spotlight and could only play in lower-tier tournaments. If they wanted to go out and make a name for themselves, Canglan would let them leave.

But everyone knew how good Canglan was, and some people didn’t want to leave this platform.

In the end, management suggested that for those who weren’t willing to transfer out permanently, they could be loaned to other teams. If they achieved something, the honor would be theirs, and once the loan was over, they’d still belong to Canglan. Everyone was immediately satisfied. Of course, there were also those who were more decisive and insisted on venturing out no matter what for their dreams.
