Chapter 51: Chapter 51: Sophie Winslow Seduces Someone Else’s Boyfriend!

Lucas Langley’s interest in Sophie Winslow exceeded everyone’s expectations.

Only Julian Sterling acted like a complete outsider. He didn’t even speak much to Lucas, merely lowering his eyes and saying indifferently, "Let’s go admire the Ancient Treasures first."

Stella Sutton raised an eyebrow in silence.

It was in a man’s nature to be possessive of his wife. Regardless of love, he would never allow another man to encroach upon what was his. If he didn’t even possess that basic instinct, it meant he was indifferent and disgusted to the core.

Peter Preston silently rejoiced that Sophie had walked away; at least she wouldn’t have to see this cold-hearted side of Julian. Unable to agree with Julian’s attitude, Peter nodded. "I’m going to look around first."

Lucas gestured for him to go ahead.

Evan York stayed behind. He narrowed his eyes at Lucas. "Are you serious? Was it really love at first sight?"

Lucas chuckled and raised his glass. "We’re all ordinary men and women with basic desires. There’s no need to take it too seriously. If we get along, we’ll date. If not, we’ll go our separate ways."

That sounded a bit like something a scumbag would say. Even Evan hesitated for a moment. It seemed Lucas was currently only attracted to Sophie’s looks and just wanted a brief fling. But even if Julian didn’t care, a daughter-in-law of the Sterling family was not allowed to engage in such absurdity.

Evan scanned their surroundings and lowered his voice. "Lucas, anyone else is fine, but not her."

"Alright, then tell me. Who is her boyfriend or husband? Since you know she’s not single, you can at least give me a name, right?"

This left Evan utterly speechless. Since Julian refused to acknowledge Sophie publicly, Evan couldn’t exactly expose her identity as Mrs. Sterling. Besides, Stella was also present today. Pointing it out would only make things incredibly awkward.

Evan frowned.

Lucas clinked his glass against Evan’s. "Don’t tell me you’ve also got your eye on her, so you’re deliberately saying she’s taken?" He could hardly think of any other explanation.

"What are you thinking? It’s nothing like that," Evan said, his brows still knit as he forced a casual tone. "She’s not good enough for you."

That was the only excuse he could come up with. Lucas merely took it as a joke. Since Evan couldn’t provide a valid reason or name the husband, Lucas naturally assumed the man didn’t exist.

Patting Evan on the shoulder, he said, "You should focus your energy on finding your sister. No woman can play me yet, so there’s no need to worry."

Meanwhile, Sophie was completely unaware of what had just transpired.

She had originally intended to go to the restroom, but she was drawn to the Ancient Treasures displayed in the glass cases along the way and ended up admiring them for quite a while. The Langley family truly had profound heritage. The exhibited Ancient Treasures were all incredibly valuable; some were so rare that even the National Museum didn’t have them.

There were four floors in total, and she had only explored half of one. Deciding to take a quick break, she headed to the restroom.

As soon as she stepped out, she heard the CLICK of a lighter coming from the side.

She turned her head. Julian stood there quietly, his overcoat draped casually over his arm. His high-quality white shirt and tailored black vest highlighted his tall, straight posture. The cut accentuated his broad shoulders and narrow waist, exuding a striking sex appeal. Hearing her footsteps, he glanced over, watching her through wisps of drifting smoke.

He then withdrew his gaze and carelessly snuffed out the cigarette.

Sophie immediately understood. Stella was probably nearby. As the perfect boyfriend, he must be waiting for her. Naturally, she wouldn’t be presumptuous enough to approach her own husband and strike up a conversation, lest she embarrass herself.

Sophie planned to walk away, but as she passed by him, she heard him speak in a slow, measured tone, "It’s the Lunar New Year at the end of the month. The whole family is going to The Southern Province for a holiday. Are you coming?"

Sophie halted and turned, her gaze colliding with his deep eyes. She wondered if he had been waiting for her. But they were about to get a divorce. Spending the New Year with her in-laws was clearly inappropriate.

"No, I’m going to keep my grandfather company," she refused without a second thought.

"Alright, suit yourself."

Julian looked away without offering a single word of persuasion, as if he had only asked as a formality. Sophie was long used to his indifferent attitude; to him, her presence had never mattered. The person who could make Julian patient had never been her.

She continued walking down the corridor.

A museum staff member was pushing a dessert cart in her direction, forcing Sophie to step aside to make way. Unexpectedly, her foot suddenly slipped. Flailing wildly, she subconsciously reached out to grab onto any lifeline she could find.

An arm shot out and firmly caught her slender waist. Only then did she manage to grab onto the person’s collar to steady herself. Her nose was instantly filled with the cool, crisp scent of sandalwood.

Looking up, she saw Julian lowering his eyes, gazing impassively at her face, which had flushed red from panic. He didn’t push her away, simply waiting quietly for her to recover her wits.

"Thanks," Sophie said, feeling a bit annoyed with herself. She resolved to wear slip-resistant shoes next time.

Somehow, Julian had ended up leaning against the wall. She had one hand tightly gripping the fabric of his shirt and the other pressed against his pectoral muscle to keep her balance. It looked exactly as if she were forcing herself on him.

"You’re quite polite." The corners of Julian’s eyes dipped slightly. After staring at her for a few seconds, he let out a sudden, soft chuckle.

It carried an inexplicable undertone.

Sophie frowned. He was truly impossible to please. Thanking him felt wrong, but not thanking him would also be wrong.

Meanwhile, Lucas had asked around for Sophie’s whereabouts and was walking in this very direction. Just as he rounded the corner, he was met with this exact scene.

Sophie was grabbing Julian’s collar, her face flushed with apparent shyness, looking for all the world like she was trying to throw herself at him.

He stopped dead in his tracks, staring in absolute disbelief. He had thought Sophie seemed quite poised and elegant. Who would have expected her private behavior to be so... wanton? She clearly knew Julian was Stella’s boyfriend, yet she was still desperately throwing herself into his arms?

The favorable impression he had built of her seemed to collapse in an instant.

"Mr. Langley?"

When Stella walked over, she saw Lucas with a dark, unsightly expression on his face.

Lucas snapped back to reality. Seeing her, he immediately blocked her from walking any further. "Miss Sutton, let’s chat elsewhere."

Sophie was seducing someone else’s boyfriend in a public place. If the actual girlfriend saw this, it would probably cause a huge scene. After all, no woman could remain calm when faced with her boyfriend getting intimate with another woman.

Stella was completely baffled, but out of the corner of her eye, she shot a quick glance down the hall.

She happened to catch sight of the scene deep in the corridor. The smile on her lips froze slightly, and a flash of resentment darted through her eyes. Sophie was actually shameless to this extent! Did she have any sense of boundaries at all?!

She almost subconsciously took a step forward, wanting to march over and rip Sophie away.

"Miss Sutton? Perhaps there’s a misunderstanding?" Lucas rubbed his forehead, not wanting things to escalate into an ugly situation.

Stella’s expression remained grim. But her rationality quickly returned. Making a huge scene would obviously be shooting herself in the foot.

She pressed her lips together and stayed put. Finally, she managed a small smile. "Thank you, Mr. Langley. I’m fine."

Lucas was somewhat surprised by Stella’s magnanimity.

Stella turned to look at him, shaking her head as if in helplessness. "Given Julian’s status, I’m not surprised by this kind of thing. There will always be people with ulterior motives. I don’t expect them to have any morals or sense of propriety anymore."
