She Kept the Baby and Ditched the Husband
Chapter 96 Her Secret!
Chapter 96: Chapter 96: Her Secret!
Faye was currently enjoying unparalleled fame in the industry. Once she revealed that she was the renowned Faye, she would attract an extraordinary amount of attention. Many people would dig deep into her background, and there were some things that simply couldn’t withstand intense scrutiny. She currently harbored the secret of being Lydia, so exercising utmost caution was her top priority. After all, she still hadn’t officially obtained her divorce certificate. Therefore, she decided to act under the guise of a Helios researcher for now.
Peter Preston nodded. "That makes sense. There’s no need to rush right now."
Shortly after, Sophie Winslow and Peter screened several rounds of investors.
That afternoon, Sophie went to Calyx again to monitor the clinical trials. Just as she arrived at the hospital, she bumped into Finn Lockwood. She immediately retracted her gaze, treating him as if he were completely invisible.
Seeing Sophie’s attitude, a flash of embarrassment crossed Finn’s face. He hadn’t expected her to show such clear disgust toward him. But then he remembered his purpose for coming to the hospital today...
"Finn, why are you standing here?" Stella Sutton walked down from upstairs. Seth Sutton’s physical indicators were abnormal, so he had to be hospitalized for observation. Because of this, she was at the hospital almost every day.
Finn turned around and noticed that Julian Sterling was there too. He shrugged helplessly. "You guys know about Helios seeking investments, right?"
At the mention of this, Stella frowned, a flash of disbelief in her eyes. No matter how she looked at that project, it seemed like a pure fantasy. If it were truly implemented, wouldn’t it solve the current difficulties in brain tumor surgeries? Did they really think they were miracle healers?
"You want to invest?" Julian looked at him calmly, instantly seeing through his intentions.
Finn pinched the bridge of his nose. "It’s not me, it’s my grandfather. He caught wind of this and repeatedly urged me to invest. He said it’s a huge opportunity and might even become the pioneer in the industry. But I don’t think so."
He didn’t know why the old man was so certain, even telling him to invest as much as possible. He personally wasn’t optimistic about it, but he couldn’t withstand his grandfather’s strict orders. However, the moment he arrived, he was met with Sophie’s cold shoulder. The slight desire he had to invest vanished in an instant.
Seeing that Finn shared her opinion, Stella curled her lips into a smile and evaluated, "Actually, you’re not wrong. Your grandfather is indeed being too idealistic. I looked into this Helios project, and as an insider, I can tell you that the possibility of realizing it is extremely low."
"Care to elaborate?" Finn asked.
Julian, meanwhile, lowered his eyes, absentmindedly spinning his phone in his hand.
A hint of mockery flashed through Stella’s eyes. "It’s very difficult to overcome with current technology. They want to create a compound medical robot that also involves the field of traditional Chinese medicine. There are simply too many obstacles to integrating the two. Unless someone possesses the absolute pinnacle of expertise in both traditional Chinese medicine and artificial intelligence, they won’t be able to coordinate it. Moreover, they still need to use Helios’s ’Digital Chinese Medicine’ database for data support. It’s essentially forcing three different parties to mesh together. There are technical barriers between all of them, making the chances of success incredibly slim."
The theories of traditional Chinese and Western medicine already inherently contradicted each other. How could Helios overcome so many technical difficulties? She admitted that Helios was a dark horse in the industry, but this conceptual idea was just too empty.
Hearing this, Finn was completely convinced. "You make a solid point. Traditional Chinese medicine, Western medicine, artificial intelligence, plus Digital Chinese Medicine as an auxiliary—wouldn’t these different groups end up fighting because they can’t bridge the technical barriers? Forget it, I’m not investing. I’ll just humor my grandfather for a while to avoid getting scolded."
He planned to lie and say he had invested. He would let others test the waters first. If it failed and the old man asked about it, he would confess he hadn’t thrown any money at it, and his grandfather would likely be pleased with his foresight.
Stella smiled. "It’s a good thing you’re willing to listen to my advice."
Finn was growing closer to her these days because she had supposedly saved the Lockwood Family’s patriarch back then. Because of that, he took her words to heart.
Julian slipped his phone back into his pocket and looked up. "Aren’t you going to do a risk assessment and review the project’s feasibility report?"
This was an essential step before investing. Letting the data speak was always the safer route.
Finn brushed it off indifferently. "I originally wanted to consult Sophie for some insider info, but since she’s putting on airs, I don’t need to force my money on Helios. Stella also said the feasibility is low, so it doesn’t matter whether I do it or not."
He didn’t believe the project would succeed. If it actually did, it would disrupt the entire industry, become a core technological patent, and rake in tens of billions in market value. He simply didn’t believe Helios had that kind of capability right now. Rather than investing in Helios, he would be better off investing in Stella’s smart triage robot when the time came.
Julian didn’t comment further on the matter. He merely stated, "Helios’s first round of financing has already reached two hundred million. There’s quite a few investors."
These words shocked not only Finn but Stella as well. That much? It was completely beyond their expectations.
Julian lowered his head to reply to a work message. "Word has already gotten out that Faye will be taking charge. Many people are flocking to it just for her name."
This time, the smile faded from Finn’s face. He couldn’t help but fall into deep thought. Had he made the wrong assessment?
A flash of astonishment also crossed Stella’s eyes. She suddenly remembered that Sophie was currently at Helios. Would Peter Preston... continue to insert Sophie into this project so she could just coast along and reap the dividends?

When Sophie came over, the staff from the documentary crew were still setting up their cameras. The documentary still had three more days of shooting left, but fortunately, the crew didn’t interfere with their normal work. Instead, it was as if they didn’t exist at all, relying on either fixed cameras or remote recording.
Sophie stayed at the clinical center for a few hours. In the midst of it all, she received a call from Philip Preston, who said he had returned to Kingsford. Furthermore...
"Mr. Sterling from Sterling Corp gave me a call and wants to set up a time to meet," he added.
Sophie instantly guessed Julian’s intentions. Stella and Seth had caused a huge scene in Philip’s office and smashed plenty of valuable items. Julian was clearly acting as a middleman to pave the way for Stella to apologize.
"Just handle it however you see fit," Sophie replied.
Philip laughed. "You stubborn girl, can’t you use your privileges and just tell me not to give them any face?"
Looking down at the specimen under the precision microscope, Sophie said, "Oh, then help me beat them up and make them kneel and apologize to me."
"..." Philip was speechless. "Give you an inch and you take a mile."
Sophie chuckled. She wasn’t going to get involved in this matter; she didn’t have that much free time. How to handle it was Philip’s business. After all, he had his own social obligations to navigate.
That evening, Sophie collected the day’s experimental data. She then received an urgent, impromptu summons from the traditional Chinese medicine ward, asking her to come over for a consultation. She made the trip over.
It turned out that Seth was suffering from edema caused by his excessive physical indicators. Since he was a patient under her care, she had to handle the situation thoroughly. After administering acupuncture to Seth, she left the room, completely ignoring the chubby boy’s noisy complaints.
She worked overtime until almost eight o’clock at night. Phase I of the clinical trials was about to end, and the project was already showing its first rays of hope. Rubbing her stiff neck, Sophie walked out, ready to clock out and head home.
Just as she was about to leave, the sound of hurried footsteps echoed down the corridor. Before she could react, someone tightly grabbed her arm and forcefully slammed her against the wall.
