"I’m Naomi," she murmured, offering her hand in a slow, deliberate motion. There was nothing professional about the gesture—it was a brazen invitation to touch.

Alex looked down at her fingers, the easy, amused smile never leaving his face. He didn’t hesitate. Reaching out, he enveloped her hand in his grasp.

Her skin was deceptively soft, cool, and silky smooth against his palm. There wasn’t a single telltale callous or rough edge to betray her true line of work... a testament to how meticulously she maintained her civilian disguise, or perhaps how completely her Late Enhanced vitality had refined her body.

"Looks like I’ll need another drink tonight," Alex said, his thumb lightly brushing the back of her knuckles before letting go.

A flash of proud, triumphant satisfaction lit up Naomi’s dark eyes.

Her smirk deepened into something undeniably sultry, her shoulders easing into an even more confident posture. She took it as total confirmation that her charms were working flawlessly, and that she already had him right where she wanted him.

Before the bartender could turn back to take the order, Naomi smoothly raised two slender fingers, catching the man’s attention without ever breaking eye contact with Alex.

"Make that two," she murmured, her voice dripping with deliberate, smoky warmth. Her lips parted into a slow, intoxicating smile as she held his gaze.

"...Whatever he’s having."

The bartender gave a crisp nod, turning to pull a dark bottle from the top shelf.

Alex watched her with steady amusement, letting the quiet clinking of crystal behind the bar stretch just long enough to match her deliberate pace.

"Alexander Hale," he said smoothly, his tone low and unhurried. "Though you can call me Alex."

"Alex..." she repeated softly, letting the syllables roll off her tongue as if tasting the name.

Her smirk softened into something far more intimate. Shifting her weight, she leaned both elbows fully against the polished marble, bringing her upper body forward until barely a hand’s breadth separated them.

"A strong name for a dangerous-looking man," Naomi murmured, resting her chin lightly atop her laced fingers. Her dark eyes sparkled with deliberate, theatrical curiosity.

"So tell me, Alex. What brings a man like you to a place like this, completely alone? You surely didn’t come to this floor just to break hearts."

Every word was dipped in honey, delivered with the practiced ease of a woman used to getting answers without asking direct questions.

Beneath that sultry facade, however, Alex caught the sharp, tactical edge of an operative fishing for a profile. A Late Stage Enhanced mercenary didn’t waste her breath on harmless bar chatter.

Alex’s easy demeanor shifted. The lazy, amused smile faded from his lips, replaced by a sudden, cutting stillness. He leaned forward just an inch, his gaze locking directly onto hers with a razor-sharp intensity that seemed to pin her to the spot.

"You’re very curious, Naomi," Alex said, his voice dropping into a low, chilling rasp that cut straight through the ambient hum of the lounge. "A little too curious for someone who supposedly just came over for a drink."

The calm, unblinking certainty in his eyes held no warmth, only the quiet weight of an apex predator giving fair warning.

"Don’t you know that prying into the business of a stranger can be dangerous? Especially in a place like this... where curiosity usually costs a lot more than a drink."

The low, chilling edge in his voice sent a sharp, electric shiver racing straight down Naomi’s spine. Coming from anyone else, it would have sounded like empty posturing. But from him, backed by that calm, predatory stillness, it didn’t intimidate her, it made him look intoxicatingly hot.

Her lips parted into a slow, sultry smirk, her dark eyes flashing as she held his stare without flinching.

"Dangerous?" she whispered, her dark eyes flashing with brazen, sultry amusement. "I’ve never been the type to run from a little danger, Alex."

Her gaze dipped shamelessly down to his lips, then to the broad cut of his shoulders, before rising back to lock onto his eyes without a shred of fear.

"Especially not when it comes looking this good."

She didn’t just let the words hang. Reaching out, Naomi laid her palm flat over his hand, her manicured fingers slowly trailing up the line of his forearm. The touch was bold, deliberate, and undeniably intimate... a physical dare designed to crack his composure. Her dark eyes remained pinned to his, challenging him to prove he was anything more than just sharp talk.

Alex didn’t blink.

In a fraction of a second, before her Late Enhanced reflexes could even register the twitch of his muscles, his fingers closed around her wrist like a steel cuff.

Naomi didn’t even have time to gasp. With a single, fluid pull of terrifying leverage, Alex hauled her forward. He spun her around effortlessly on the polished floor, guiding her momentum until her back met the solid wall of his chest and she landed firmly across his lap.

Her dark eyes blew wide in sheer, unadulterated shock.

Her training kicked in instantly, her core tightening to push off him and break the hold. But the moment she shifted, Alex’s free arm banded around her waist, locking her flush against him.

His grip was like steel—effortless, but impossible to break. To the rest of the VIP lounge, it looked like a breathless, passionate embrace between two lovers who couldn’t keep their hands to themselves. But to Naomi, it felt like being caught in the jaws of an apex predator.

Her breath hitched in her throat, her pulse hammering wildly against her ribs as she realized she couldn’t move an inch.

’He’s not normal,’ the thought screamed through her mind, cold panic spiking through her chest.

She was a Late-Stage Enhanced operative. Her physical strength could snap bone like dry twigs, yet against his arm, she felt like a child pinned against a slab of iron.

A chilling dread settled in her gut. Did he know from the very beginning? Does he know who sent me?

Her eyes darted frantically toward the shadowed alcove near the elevators.

There, half-hidden in the dim light, stood her husband, frozen. His calculated facade had shattered, his eyes wide in stunned disbelief as he stared across the floor, completely helpless.

He couldn’t draw a weapon, and he couldn’t rush the bar without violating the venue’s rules and bringing security down on their heads.

She was completely on her own.

Before she could even swallow the lump in her throat, Alex tilted his head down into the exposed curve of her neck, his lips grazing the heated, trembling skin just behind her ear.

"Now, Mrs. Naomi," Alex murmured, his voice dropping into a low, lethal rasp that sent an electric shiver tearing straight through her veins.

"Why don’t we drop the innocent act?"

His breath was warm against her neck, his iron grip never loosening by a fraction of a millimeter.

"A woman doesn’t corner a complete stranger this boldly—not when she supposedly walked in here with a man of her own. So tell me..." His lips brushed the frantic pulse fluttering beneath her skin. "...what kind of game are the two of you playing?"

The knot of icy dread in Naomi’s chest loosened.

He didn’t know who she worked for, nor did he suspect anything about her operation. In his eyes, she was simply a daring married woman running an illicit game with her partner in tow. Her cover was intact.

Her eyes darted to the dark alcove, where her handler stood, stiff and paralyzed.

’Tch. Useless,’ she scoffed inwardly. If she wanted control back, she had to take it herself.

Her gaze swept across the lounge, catching the envious stares of several women at the nearby VIP tables. Their eyes burned with thinly veiled jealousy at the sight of this dangerous, breathtaking man holding her so possessively... and that sight alone fed right back into her pride.

A breathless, sultry laugh bubbled past her lips. Reaching down, her manicured fingers slid over his forearm where it was banded tightly across her chest, pressing firmly against the soft swell of her breasts.

"You have quite the grip on you, Alex," she whispered, her voice husky and teasing as she lightly stroked his knuckles. "Are you always this rough with a woman who catches your eye?"

Amused by her sheer gall, Alex let his arm ease... just enough to give her room to breathe.

That fraction of space was all a Late Enhanced operative needed.

With fluid, feline grace, Naomi twisted on his thighs, sliding her legs around him until she was straddling his lap, her crimson dress riding high on her bare thighs.

She didn’t give him a second to reset his hold. Raising both hands, she cupped his jawline, her cool fingers framing his face as she looked dead into his eyes.

"You asked what game I’m playing," she murmured, her thumbs lightly tracing the sharp contour of his cheekbones. "I’m playing a very dangerous one, Alex. The kind where I see something I want... and I don’t stop until I take it."

Her breath fell warm and shallow against his lips, her voice dropping to a sultry, defiant rasp.

"And as for him?" she murmured, her dark eyes flashing with reckless, intoxicating heat. "He isn’t here to stop me right now... is he?"

Before he could answer, she leaned in and pressed her lips hungrily against his.
