She Was Written to Die, So She Seized the Throne Instead
Chapter 326: Divorcing Mother on Father’s Behalf
Feng Yin rose to his feet. "There’s no rush."
He slowly clenched his fists as if he had made up his mind. "Someone, bring me a brush and ink!"
The staff of the Prince Manor ignored him, but someone else had already prepared a brush and ink and quickly brought them over.
The ink was already ground.
Feng Yin lifted the brush. He already had a draft composed in his mind, and his hand moved as if guided by a divine force.
A curious bystander craned their neck to look and was instantly shocked. "A letter of divorce?"
"What? The groom is writing a letter of divorce in public?"
Pei Chanjuan ripped off her wedding veil, her powdered face contorted with fury. "Feng Yin, how dare you!"
Prince Pei slammed his hand on the table in anger. "Insolence!"
Princess Huairou and Madam Pei frowned deeply, while the Princess Consort shot a look at a nearby guard, signaling for him to step forward and stop Feng Yin.
However, someone else took a closer look and was even more stunned. "You’re... divorcing Madam Feng?"
"What?"
Pei Chanjuan hurried over, and after seeing it, she too was perplexed. "What are you doing?"
’Divorcing his own mother?’
Feng Yin finished writing in one fluid motion, then set down his brush. He took out a seal and stamped it directly onto the letter of divorce.
The members of the Feng Family immediately shot to their feet, their eyes filled with excitement. "That’s the Patriarch’s Seal."
When Feng Yin was cast out of the Feng Family, he had returned everything, but the Great Seal was nowhere to be found.
Even when forced into a desperate corner, Feng Yin had never produced it. Yet today, he brought it out in front of everyone.
Feng Yin picked up the letter of divorce but ignored the seal he had left on top of it, allowing the Feng Family members to take it.
He walked toward Madam Feng and knelt before respectfully presenting the letter of divorce.
"Mother, your son has been unfilial."
"I have failed to protect you. Today, in my capacity as the Feng Family Patriarch, I am divorcing my father’s wife on his behalf. From this day forward, you are no longer a member of the Feng Family. You have no more ties to them."
As soon as he said this, the entire hall erupted in an uproar.
"Heavens, someone is actually divorcing his own mother on his father’s behalf! This is absurd, utterly absurd!"
"A woman obeys her husband, and after her husband’s death, she obeys her son. In principle, it’s justifiable."
"The Feng Family’s Great Seal has been stamped. It’s a done deal."
"But this isn’t right. How is his mother supposed to face the world after this?"
"This is utterly humiliating."
"Filial piety? This is the height of unfilial conduct!"
Madam Feng couldn’t hear the crowd’s chatter. She had already broken down the moment Feng Yin finished speaking, tears streaming down her face. "My son!"
Feng Yin remained very calm. He offered the letter, then took a step back, avoiding the hand of Madam Feng—now, Yun Xinyao.
"Someone, escort Yun Xinyao away."
Two people moved to touch Yun Xinyao, but Prince Pei immediately had his men block them. His face was dark as he said angrily, "Even if you divorced her on your father’s behalf, she is still your birth mother. She should stay to see you complete your wedding bows."
Prince Pei might lack martial prowess, but he wasn’t a fool.
Feng Yin’s act of divorcing his mother on his father’s behalf was a pretense. In reality, he wanted to send her away and cut off his own path of retreat.
Without Yun Xinyao, Feng Yin would be much harder to control.
Feng Yin showed no panic at his plan being thwarted. Instead, he glanced at Yun Xinyao. "The Prince understands. The only reason I am standing here today is because of my birth mother, Yun Xinyao."
"Now that I am here, let her leave in my place. This is how I repay her for giving me life."
"If my presence here cannot secure my mother’s freedom, then I will not complete the wedding ceremony. I will instead return this life to my mother, right here and now."
Pei Chanjuan stared intently at Feng Yin, her eyes blazing with passion.
The more resolute and proud Feng Yin acted, the more excited she became. ’Now *this* is an interesting man.’
"Father, just let her go. We’ll all be family soon, let’s not damage the harmony."
At that moment, Pei Chanjuan’s heart and eyes were filled only with the aloof and cold Feng Yin. She couldn’t care less about that half-dead old woman; she only wanted to possess Feng Yin.
Prince Pei frowned. "Don’t be ridiculous."
The Princess Consort grabbed Pei Chanjuan. "Listen to your father. What if we let her go and he goes back on his word?"
Pei Chanjuan paid them no heed, her face a mask of impatience. "This place is filled with our people. If he goes back on his word, we’ll just tie him up and throw him in the bridal chamber. There’s no man I can’t tame."
Just then, the Yun Family arrived, fashionably late. Yun Xinyao’s uncle, Yun Tianyi, strode forward with her second older brother and a group of clansmen.
"Yun Tianyi of the Yun Family pays his respects to Princess Huairou, and to the Prince and Princess Consort."
"We received a letter from the Feng Family Patriarch, stating that a daughter of our Yun Family has been divorced and even removed from the family registry. We have come today specifically to bring her home."
The Yun Family had brought twenty people in total. It wasn’t a large number, but they came with the letter and had righteousness on their side, so they acted with confidence.
Prince Pei frowned, not understanding why Feng Yin had to cause such a scene at this particular moment.
He looked at the several Feng Family elders. "You’re just going to stand by and watch him act so preposterously?"
The Feng Family members, having just gotten the seal, were about to speak when someone from behind carried out the Feng family genealogy book.
"Elders, Mrs. Feng and Feng Yin have both been removed from the family registry."
Feng Yin had acted decisively. It was clear this was premeditated.
An elder angrily rebuked Feng Yin, "Wasn’t it enough that you’ve brought us to this state? Now you cause this scene today! Must you make the Feng Family a laughingstock for the entire world before you’re satisfied?"
"Divorcing your mother on behalf of your father! How could you do something so absurd and grossly unfilial?"
Yun Tianyi ignored the Feng Family’s scolding. He stepped forward, took the letter of divorce from Yun Xinyao’s hand, and after confirming there were no issues with it, directly ordered his men to carry her away.
Prince Pei’s men tried to stop them, but the Yun Family members were no pushovers.
"What is the meaning of this, Prince Pei?"
"Your Prince Manor wants Feng Yin as a son-in-law. What sense is there in detaining his mother?"
"My niece is unwell. Now she’s been publicly divorced by her own son and cast out of his family. What are you trying to do by not letting me take her away? Must you force her to her death right here, spattering blood all over this wedding hall?"
"Those who know what’s happening see the Pei Family celebrating a wedding. Those who don’t would think you’ve all gathered here to hound my niece to death."
Yun Tianyi showed no fear, directly confronting Prince Pei head-on. He was the "hardest bone" Feng Yin had deliberately chosen from the Yun Family, precisely for this moment.
Those pointed questions were a blatant slap to Prince Pei’s face, yet he couldn’t afford to lose his temper.
"This Prince has no such intention. I simply feel that as Feng Yin’s birth mother, she should receive a bow from the newlyweds."
Yun Tianyi waved his hand dismissively, his face stern and unforgiving. "A letter of divorce and removal from the family registry? We cannot accept such a bow."
With that, they forcibly took Yun Xinyao away.
He then turned to the crowd below and declared, "That brat from the Feng Family is disloyal and unfilial, publicly humiliating his own mother. He is unworthy of being a son! Everyone, I ask you to be the judge: is my Yun Family wrong to take our own daughter back?"
Many of the guests today were pedantic scholars, and there was nothing they loved more than judging the rights and wrongs of a situation.
Especially now, having witnessed such an unexpected drama. The Yun Family was clearly in the right, while there was obviously something fishy going on with the Prince Pei Manor.
With the power of the crowd behind them, they didn’t mind passing a little judgment on Prince Pei.
"This is indeed wrong. They’re taking things too far."
"What kind of person is he? To humiliate his mother like this on his wedding day... He’s practically inhuman."
"Exactly! Utterly inhuman."
"Why is the Prince so insistent on keeping her mother here? Isn’t he afraid he’ll drive her to her death?"
"You don’t get it. The groom is clearly unwilling. They’re keeping her as a hostage to threaten him."
