Chapter 836: Chapter 373: Returning to the Team

"Main? How did you appear here!!"

Carlos stared in disbelief, his eyes wide open. In the next second, he suddenly stood up to lunge forward, but the two escorting policemen beside him pressed down on his shoulders, rendering any resistance futile.

At this moment, his eyes were bloodshot, veins bulging at the corners, filled with resentment and dissatisfaction, like a wounded beast glaring at Main.

"Oh, my dear Deputy Minister, please don’t look at me like that. I’m here to help you!"

"Help me?"

Upon hearing the last few words, Carlos instantly calmed down and skeptically asked, "How can you help me? You’ve caused me such trouble, the President won’t spare me!"

"I have a way. Wait till we get to the place, and you’ll know!"

Main did not directly answer him but left behind a mysterious smile.

For a moment, Carlos’s mind started racing.

As the Deputy Director of the Intelligence Bureau, for Main to be on this Federal Police Station’s transport vehicle was problematic in itself.

Chances are even the two officers beside him, and possibly the driver, are from the Intelligence Bureau.

Brazil’s intelligence system has two separate entities.

One is the United Police Bureau under the government, and the other is the Intelligence Bureau under the Ministry of Defense. 𝑓𝑟ℯℴ𝓂

Although the two are independent, the latter is far superior in intelligence operations.

This means, if the Intelligence Bureau really decides to save him, they can bypass the oversight of the President and the Federal Police, and the simplest plan is to give him a new passport identity and smuggle him out of the country.

"Seems this guy has a bit of a conscience."

Main was brought up by Carlos himself. Thinking of this, Carlos’s anger dissipated quite a bit, and he began to imagine life after fleeing.

Half an hour passed.

The road conditions deteriorated, the vehicle swayed left and right, making Carlos very uncomfortable. Impatiently, he asked, "Main! How much longer till we arrive?"

"Soon, my dear Deputy Minister."

"Let me out of these handcuffs first, they are too uncomfortable!"

"We’re almost there!"

Just as Carlos requested Main to unlock his handcuffs, suddenly, Main pointed forward, and the driver stepped on the brakes, slowing the vehicle down.

A moment later, the rear door was opened by someone.

Carlos raised his hand to shield his eyes from the sunlight, jumped off the vehicle, and looked around. The place was surrounded by waist-high weeds, an utterly deserted wasteland. "Main, where is this...?"

Before he could finish speaking, a vehicle engine’s sound came from afar.

A black extended Range Rover stopped in front of them.

A bodyguard got out of the front seat, opened the car door for the back seat, and a middle-aged man in a suit with graying hair, head held high and with a hint of authority, walked towards them.

Carlos was completely stunned.

For the man in front of him was Patricio, Acting Speaker of the Senate in Brazil, and one of the most powerful figures in Brazilian politics. Especially since the first Vice Speaker, Viana, was killed, no one could compete with him, allowing him to fully control Congress, even directly impeaching the President!

"Mr. Speaker, why are you..."

"Main, what kind of lousy place did you choose."

Faced with Carlos’s inquiry, Patricio acted as if he hadn’t heard it, scolding Main, and took out a handkerchief as if to wipe the dirtied shoes.

"I apologize, Mr. Speaker, it was my oversight, but this area is the only place near the airport not monitored by the Federal Police."

Main explained with a smile, quickly taking the handkerchief from Patricio and crouching down to wipe his shoes.

Carlos was completely bewildered.

It wasn’t until Patricio’s razor-sharp gaze pierced him directly that he finally sensed something was off.

"Carlos, I initially thought you were just incompetent, but it turns out you are utterly brainless, not even able to handle a small private organization..."

By the end, he was too lazy to speak further, simply waving his hand.

The two escorting policemen immediately kicked Carlos’s knee pits, forcing him to kneel on the ground; one of the policemen even drew a handgun from his belt.

Hearing the mechanical click of the gun being cocked, Carlos shivered violently.

"You, you’re thinking of killing me? Damn it! I am the Deputy Minister of Defense; if you dare do this, the President won’t spare you!!"

"Heh heh, do you think the President will know?"

Main finished wiping the shoes, stood up, and looked sinisterly at Carlos, "Outsiders will only know that halfway through the escort, you tried to seize police weapons, injured an officer, and the colleague was forced to retaliate, shooting you dead on the spot!"

"Bang!"

As he finished speaking, a gunshot rang out, and the policeman unexpectedly shot himself in the shoulder.

Carlos trembled violently in fear, watching the policeman’s shoulder instantly drenched in blood, his heart pounding, sweat trickling down his forehead and dripping onto his hands, leaving him soulless.

"No! Don’t kill me! Mr. Speaker, keep me, I will surely work as wholeheartedly for you as he does. As the Deputy Minister of Defense, I will be far more useful than a mere deputy director!"

Enduring his fear, he stretched out a trembling hand, pointed at Main, and pleaded with Patricio.

Keep in mind, Brazil is the only country in the North American and South American regions that doesn’t implement the death penalty. Even if caught, at most, he would be sentenced to life imprisonment, rather than losing his life as he was about to now.
