"Looks like all the undead Mutants have been eliminated. But...it’ll only be a matter of time before he returns with his forces replenished," Remarked Cleo with a grimace, as we regrouped, having mopped up the stragglers.

He didn’t think to withdraw them after he slipped away, he must have been really desperate to escape. He should know about Pilfer, we discussed it with him present when we were brainstorming how to defeat the Angels during the trial.

I guess he just panicked and couldn’t think straight when he didn’t regenerate. But the effect of Pilfer will wear off in a minute or so, and his Undead Immortality Skill will return to him. Once he realizes what happened, this won’t work on him again.

He might even return right away...but I think that’s unlikely. He’ll probably want to bolster his forces again, what with the entirety of his undead creatures having been wiped out in this battle.

But...right now, something else is at the forefront of my mind...

"Hey, is...is Jaden really...dead?" Aria asked me quietly.

"Yeah...I didn’t feel a pulse. And the fact that I was able to place his body in Treasury confirms it. Not to mention...," I responded, as I nodded at the rod laying by a pile of rubble, by the spot where Jaden had been killed.

"That’s...his Personalis Arma," Realized Cleo, wiping her sleeve across her eyes as she began to tear up.

I clenched my fists and gritted my teeth bitterly, my chest tight. Damn it...if only I’d gotten here just a few seconds sooner. If I’d made more of rush to head over here, he’d...he’d still be alive...

"We were so close, yet too late...all three of us, we got here just in time to see him die, but too late to save him," Remarked Aria, tears streaming down her face as she voiced my thoughts.

"Leto...he needs to die, that irredeemable piece of shit, we can’t let him exist. But...," I trailed off in frustration.

"All this time and we still haven’t come up with a way to do that. Anti-Magic and Pilfer only work temporarily, even if we wipe out every last trace of him while nullifying his Undead Immortality, he’ll regenerate right away once he gets it back," Replied Cleo, a trickle of blood running down her chin as she bit her lower lip.

"What do we do? What can we do? He’s finally learnt how to fight in a way that works for him, and he’ll pose more of threat the more accustomed he gets to it," Added Aria with a concerned look on her face.

Yeah...we accomplished nothing in this battle, all we did was delay him. How long before he makes his next move? As things stand, I can’t see things going any differently than they did today...if anything, it may well only get worse...

"D-Damn it...damn it, damn it, God fucking DAMN IT!!!" I yelled as I raced across the wasteland.

What the hell...what the hell did he do to me?! Why am I not regenerating?! What the fuck is this?! M-My Undead Immortality is supposed to be perfect, there shouldn’t be anything that can trump it, so how-...?

Huh?

I came to a skidding halt across the ground as I suddenly healed and regenerated, my body fully intact once again.

Oh. Okay, then.

But what the hell-...wait, that’s right. I remember, he mentioned this during the trial, the Skill of one of his Apostles, Pilfer. That bastard, he stole my Undead Immortality Skill, even if it was just temporary!

Damn it, I can’t believe I panicked like that, if I’d just taken a moment to think it through, I would’ve realized it. He would’ve wiped me out, but once my Undead Immortality returned to me, I’d be good as new again.

Tch, I already got a fair distance away from the Sanctuary...should I go back? They’re worn out and they’ve used up a good chunk of their time limits with their power boosts, so-...

No, I don’t have to rush. Plus, it’d be embarrassing to go back right away after running. I’ve lost all my forces, I never got a chance to hunt down a Teleporter, not to mention get some new clothes.

Eh, whatever, I’m getting used to this whole being naked thing, I guess it doesn’t really matter.

On the plus side, I managed to take out one of the X-Aces! Still, it would’ve been nice if I’d had the chance to turn him undead before the others showed up. Heh, yeah, I bet being forced to fight him would’ve thrown them off, I could’ve killed one or two more of them with that!

I guess it’s a moot point now, no point in dwelling on it. Hm, I wonder if I’ll be able to take on that talking Mutant from the other day now? No, better not go at that thing by myself, at least not until I sharpen and improve my new fighting style.

I’m definitely a lot more effective now, but it’s still not good enough. With the disparity in Power Level, I should be able to dominate all the X-Aces without breaking a sweat.

They definitely struggled a lot more against me than last time, but they were still able to hold their own and fend me off. The fact that Kaivel and Ariella are immune to my Death Scythe also means that-...hm?

Wait...I landed a couple of hits with my scythe on Cleo, how the hell did she survive? She has that Phoenix Resurrection Skill, but she has to actually die for it to activate, and it only works once a day or something, right?

Hm...ohh, right, that Spirit Fusion. She and Kavi both mentioned it, that they’ve got Devil Spirits, creatures that possess Anti-Magic. Of course, she used Anti-Magic to negate the constant Touch of Death effect of my Death Scythe’s blade.

Well, in the end, it’s all irrelevant. There’s nothing they can do that’ll put me down for good. Next time will be the final battle against them. I’ll rebuild my forces once again, and then make my move.

I’ll kill them all for sure this time, along with anyone else who gets in my way. And then, this whole entire world will be mine, and everyone I deign to spare will live the rest of their worthless lives at my mercy...
