Su Shengguo opened the door and saw an unfamiliar girl standing there. She smiled and greeted him, "Hello."

"Who are you looking for?" Su Shengguo asked, looking at the girl before him in confusion.

"I’m here to see you. May I come in and talk?" the unfamiliar girl asked politely with a faint smile.

"I’m sorry, but I think you have the wrong person. I don’t know you." Su Shengguo frowned and started to close the door.

"Wait." Seeing Su Shengguo about to close the door, the girl quickly put her hand out to stop it. "I am here to see you. Your surname is Su, and you’re from Xiyuan County in the Northeast, right? I also know you came to Beijing because of your daughter."

Her words stopped Su Shengguo in his tracks. His brow furrowed even more tightly. "Who exactly are you?"

The girl smiled. "So, would it be alright if we talked inside?"

Then, she added in a low voice, "Or perhaps... you don’t want to know the truth about your daughter’s death?"

Su Shengguo’s eyes widened at her words. Before he could speak, Zheng Erlian, who had been sitting on the bed, shot up and rushed over. "What did you say? You just..."

"Shh, keep your voice down." The girl made a hushing gesture. Without waiting for Su Shengguo or Zheng Erlian to say another word, she slipped into the room, closing the door behind her. Only then did she say to the couple, "I came here today specifically to tell you the truth about your daughter’s death."

"Are you saying... are you saying there’s more to what happened to my Meizi?" Zheng Erlian rushed forward and grabbed the girl’s arm. "What’s going on? Tell me, quickly."

The girl’s brow twitched slightly. She calmly pulled her arm free from Zheng Erlian’s grasp, found a chair, and sat down with composure.

Seeing the girl’s behavior, Su Lidong became annoyed. "What’s wrong with you? You’re only telling half the story. We ask you to elaborate, and you say nothing. Are you crazy?"

In truth, Su Lidong was just irritated. His mind was entirely focused on how to mend his relationship with Su Qing, so he wasn’t particularly concerned about his own sister’s death. As for the cause of death, he cared even less. The police had already closed the case, so what was the point of dwelling on it?

To him, Su Qing was the most important person right now. But this strange girl had shown up out of nowhere, talking about the real reason for his sister’s death. If his parents got hung up on this, how was he supposed to convince them to go suck up to Su Qing?

"Hah. I come here out of the goodness of my heart to tell you the truth, and it seems I’m not welcome. If that’s the case, then I’ll just consider this me meddling in things that are none of my business." The girl sneered at Su Lidong’s words, stood up, and made a show of leaving.

"No, don’t." Zheng Erlian quickly blocked the girl’s path, then snapped at Su Lidong, "If you don’t want to listen, go back to your room! This is your sister we’re talking about. Don’t you have a conscience?"

Su Lidong pursed his lips at her words but didn’t say anything.

Zheng Erlian quickly turned to the girl. "Please, tell me, what really happened to my daughter? The police said she was killed by human traffickers. Was there something else going on?"

The girl gave a faint smile. "Of course. Your daughter was indeed killed by human traffickers. But why would they kill your daughter? Since they’d already caught her, wouldn’t it have been better to sell her for a sum of money? Why take her life? Do you want to know the reason for that?"

"Tell me, quickly tell me!" Zheng Erlian grabbed the girl’s arm again, asking anxiously, "Why would the traffickers kill my daughter? My beautiful, precious daughter... gone just like that. It’s like they’ve ripped my heart out."

As she spoke, tears began to fall again.

The girl frowned, her gaze fixed on the hand Zheng Erlian was using to grip her arm.

Su Shengguo, who was standing nearby, came to his senses. He quickly pulled Zheng Erlian aside and had her sit down. "Miss," he said, "if you know the truth, please tell us."

"Yes," Zheng Erlian added, now suspicious herself. "Why would the police hide this from us?"

"Because someone powerful is involved, of course." The girl chuckled dryly. "You would never have guessed. The person those traffickers were really after was Su Qing. And because they were after Su Qing, your daughter became the bait. In other words, your daughter died because of Su Qing."

"What!" The girl’s words left all three members of the Su family stunned.

The girl continued in a leisurely tone, "And who is Su Qing? Her maternal grandfather is a high-ranking official. She’s a true blue-blooded young lady from a family of officials now. Not someone common folk like us, with mud on our legs, can compare to. Her life is precious. As for people like us... heh, you get it, don’t you?"

Zheng Erlian’s eyes were already red. She stared intently at the girl. "So you’re saying my Meizi wouldn’t have died... it was because of Su Qing. She lost her life because of Su Qing, is that right?"

"Alas, perhaps some people think that since they’re cousins, it’s only natural for one to take a hit for the other." The girl smiled faintly, calmly sowing discord.

"Bullshit!" Zheng Erlian was furious. "Why should my Meizi have to die? The one who should be dead is Su Qing! Why should my Meizi have to take the fall for her?"

With that, Zheng Erlian tried to rush out, intending to find Su Qing and settle the score, but Su Shengguo and Su Lidong stopped her.

A smile played on the girl’s lips as she said coolly, "Heh, you’re so impulsive. Even if you want to get justice for your daughter, it’s impossible this way. Just think about it. How can a commoner like you fight against an official? That’s just asking for a death wish. You’ll end up getting yourself killed before you even get your revenge."

These words brought Zheng Erlian back to her senses a little. She paused, stunned, then said, "Yes, you’re right."

Su Shengguo narrowed his eyes at the girl. "Thank you for coming to tell us this. We understand the situation now. We’d like some time to ourselves, so we won’t keep you."

The girl didn’t seem surprised by Su Shengguo’s attitude in the slightest. She smiled and said, "Fine. I only came to say something because I couldn’t stand by and watch. Just consider me a meddler. I won’t disturb you any further."

Without waiting for Su Shengguo to respond, the girl left on her own, even closing the door behind her.

Zheng Erlian had lived with Su Shengguo her whole life and knew him inside and out. After the girl left, she glared at him and said through clenched teeth, "You don’t believe her? You don’t want to get justice for our daughter? Is that it?"
