Chapter 591: Emergency Rescue

The father and son duo, Wei Jun and Wei Song, fought their way out, trying to carve a bloody path through the countless Demon Beasts. Their group of less than a hundred people had to face several thousand Demon Beasts; the pressure was immense.

Of course, Unity City hadn’t been reduced to just this small number of people. The survivors had split into several groups to flee. In fact, a closer look immediately revealed the truth of the matter.

Their team of less than a hundred consisted of those with relatively low Cultivation, clearly the type to be abandoned. Wei Jun and Wei Song were bleeding hearts; they had steeled themselves to lead this group out. As for the more powerful teams, they had no need to drag along such burdens. They had joined forces, and with a bit of effort, they could definitely escape.

Wei Jun’s group might not be so lucky. It was comprised of people with lower Cultivation; it was obvious that he and his son were acting out of kindness by leading them in this charge.

“Everyone, stick close to us! Don’t get separated! If you get separated, we won’t be able to protect you!” Wei Jun shouted. If anyone was cut off from the group, they couldn’t possibly break away to mount a rescue.

To be cruel, they couldn’t possibly leave the rest of the group waiting just for one person. If they did, everyone would probably end up dead.

The people charging along behind them remained silent. They all understood the situation. If they couldn’t keep up, they would truly die here. This was the cruel reality: without strength, you die. It was as simple as that.

“Dad, we might have a hard time breaking out this time. The City Lord and those old geezers were actually chased off. They’re completely useless!” Wei Song said with extreme disdain. “They always promised they’d protect us, but now it looks like it was all just bullshit!”

“It’s useless to talk about it. When the three great Demon Races attacked with their full strength, even they couldn’t hold them off, let alone protect us…” Wei Jun roared, swinging his great saber in a heavy chop. He said coldly, “Stop with the useless chatter. Let’s just focus on escaping first!”

“If they hadn’t caused all this, how could Unity City have ended up like this?! Dammit, just die!” With a sudden wave of his long spear, Wei Song unleashed a surge of Earth Elemental Power. It transformed into a solid earthen wall that shot up, blocking the attack of a group of Demon Beasts.

“Ahhh…”

Following a bloodcurdling scream, someone nearby was viciously bitten by a Demon Beast and dragged into the horde. They were immediately torn to shreds, unable to make another sound.

More and more screams followed. It was simply impossible to fend off the surrounding Demon Beasts. They had a fair number of protectors, but with such a large group to defend, a dozen or so Cultivators with Essence Pill Stage Cultivation simply couldn’t block all the attacks.

There were only two or three with Spirit Pill Stage Cultivation, and facing so many Demon Beasts, they couldn’t possibly cover everyone.

Wei Jun and his son gritted their teeth. They were powerless in the face of the screams. The best they could do—their only real option—was to lead the remaining survivors and charge forward as fast as possible.

“Heh heh, still trying to run? You think you can escape?!” a Minotaur with a massive Physique laughed, swinging its Giant Axe down at them in a heavy chop. The power of the Peak of Essence Pill Stage created a terrifying shockwave in the air as the axe descended upon Wei Song.

They wouldn’t specifically target Wei Jun. His Cultivation was beyond theirs; he was a target for the Spirit Pill Stage Demon Beasts to besiege. Those at the Spirit Pill Stage were typically captain-Level, and the Minotaur had to follow their orders.

BOOM!

The terrifying Giant Axe slammed into the earthen wall. Its tyrannical power instantly carved a deep crater into the wall and continued down toward Wei Song.

Wei Song’s expression changed slightly. He quickly raised his spear to block. It collided with the descending Giant Axe with a loud CLANG. He was violently thrown back by the impact, and his hands, gripping the spear tightly, went numb.

The Minotaur Race had always been known for its strength. Although Wei Song’s Physique was not weak, it was still a far cry from his opponent’s.

After forcing Wei Song back, the Minotaur swiftly swung its Giant Axe sideways. Without his protection, the weaker Cultivators behind him were instantly exposed. Under the terrifying blow, someone was sliced in two at the waist! They didn’t even have time to scream before their life was extinguished.

“Bastard!”

Wei Song roared and thrust his spear at his opponent. He unleashed his strongest killing move, gathering all the surrounding Earth Elemental Power into a ray of yellow light that shot forward.

BOOM!

Under this terrifying attack, the Minotaur retreated, holding its Giant Axe defensively. It sneered, “Not bad power, but still a bit lacking. It’s not enough to hurt me! Everyone, attack! Kill them all, you foolish humans!”

The Giant Wolf Race and Giant Eagle Race closed in again, charging the weaker Cultivators trapped in the middle. The sky was the most difficult to defend, and they were completely unable to resist the aerial assault.

Demon Beasts blotted out the sky, leaving nowhere to hide. How could they possibly defend against the Giant Eagles in the air?

Fear surged from their hearts and twisted their faces into panicked masks. They wanted to live, but faced with this predicament, they truly despaired. It felt as if all hope was lost.

Wei Song’s eyes went bloodshot with rage. He desperately wanted to help, but he was pinned down by the Minotaur and couldn’t break away to rescue anyone!

“Eight Extremes Staff Technique!”

At this critical moment, a figure flew over at high speed from a distance. With a sudden wave of their weapon in mid-air, a shockwave powerful enough to devour everything swept out in all directions, centered on the beleaguered group. Carried within it was the terrifying Phoenix Fire.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

The Giant Eagles in the sky shrieked as they were struck by the terrifying shockwave. They were completely ignited by the Phoenix Fire. Those closer to the blast died instantly, while those further away were caught by the fiery shockwave and quickly burst into flames, their screams endless.

With one effortless strike, he had swept all the Giant Eagles from the sky. He then landed steadily in the middle of the crowd. Everyone’s eyes snapped to fixate on their savior.

“Lin… Lin Xuan!?” Wei Song cried out, his voice cracking, when he got a clear look at their rescuer.

Even Wei Jun was stunned. The last person he ever expected to see had just appeared and was rescuing them!

“Go!”

Lin Xuan snorted, a cold light flashing in his eyes. Immediately after, a group of more than a dozen Spirit Pill Stage Level experts appeared before them. They threw themselves into the slaughter, instantly carving a bloody path forward!
