Soul Emperor Awakening

Chapter 595: Infiltrating Phoenix Island

  • Next Chapter

Lin Xuan was already prepared for a fight. The Yulan Pearl inside him began to circulate, ready for him to spring into action the moment they decided he wasn’t one of them.

After studying Lin Xuan for a moment, Xie Ling and Yan Cheng nodded. “So you’ve been away for a long time,” Xie Ling said. “No wonder we’ve never seen you before. In that case, come back with us. It’s not safe out here.”

Lin Xuan was stunned. ‘I can’t believe they actually bought it. It seems they only consider the mutated Phoenixes hostile, while everyone else is fine.’

“Then thank you both for your understanding…” Lin Xuan said gratefully. ‘This makes things much easier. I can go in with them and slip past unnoticed, which is definitely better than forcing my way in.’

“We’re of the same race; it’s only natural for us to look out for each other. We should head back now. Follow us.” Xie Ling’s status was clearly higher, as Yan Cheng simply nodded in agreement beside her, deferring to her words.

Based on their Cultivation, Xie Ling’s was indeed a bit higher, making her Yan Cheng’s senior in truth.

They then unfurled their Phoenix Wings and flew forward swiftly. Lin Xuan followed suit, unfurling his own Phoenix Wings and quickly taking to the air after them. ‘It’s a good thing I can maintain them for a long time now. If I couldn’t, my cover would’ve been blown instantly.’

“Senior Sister, what’s the situation in the clan right now? Could you tell me a bit? I’ve been away for too long and don’t know what’s going on,” Lin Xuan asked, flying alongside them. He wanted to get some information out of Xie Ling.

Xie Ling glanced at him and sighed. “What else could it be? We’re at absolute odds with the Mutant Sect. The Clan Leader refuses to allow the Mutant Sect to exist and wants to drive them out completely. To make matters worse, the Mutant Sect stole the key to the Phoenix Ruins, which has the Clan Leader in a towering rage. Any member of the Mutant Sect is to be captured on sight!”

The Mutant Sect wasn’t large. It wasn’t as if only those who had a relationship with the Youlan Emperor would mutate. Even through normal reproduction, some Ice and Fire Phoenixes would occasionally be born. Thus, a small portion of Phoenixes were Ice and Fire Phoenixes, which were considered an ill omen within the Phoenix Race.

‘So that’s how it is…’

Lin Xuan scoffed inwardly. ‘Of course, that’s not the real story. It all comes down to the Clan Leader! The Ice and Fire Phoenixes possess dual Attributes. Forget countering others—they can even counter the rest of the Phoenix Race. And no matter where you go, strength determines status.’

‘The Phoenix Race is no exception. Therefore, if the Ice and Fire Phoenixes can counter them, they could secure the position of Clan Leader, and even the positions of the Elders!’

The current Clan Leader of the Phoenix Race was called the Fire Phoenix King, and she was the same age as Bingxin. However, she did not approve of Bingxin, let alone the Ice and Fire Phoenixes. The idea of someone with mixed human blood wanting to sit on the Clan Leader’s throne was, to her, an absolute impossibility.

Yet, as it happened, Bingxin was the daughter of the previous Clan Leader. By the bloodline of the Royal Family, Bingxin was destined to become the next Clan Leader. Although her union with the Youlan Emperor produced offspring that did not have a pure Phoenix Bloodline, at least half of their bloodline was from the Phoenix Race.

And that was where the problem lay. The Fire Phoenix King did not want to see this happen and would absolutely not allow Bingxin, with her impure Phoenix Bloodline, to become the Clan Leader. In the end, the Fire Phoenix King gathered a group of powerful experts to oppose Bingxin and her Mutant Sect.

‘But that wasn’t the real issue. The truth was about the Fire Phoenix King gaining this position for herself. Even someone without a pure Phoenix Bloodline could sit on the Clan Leader’s throne. The Golden Dragon Race wasn’t so hung up on this, so why was the Phoenix Race making such a fuss?’

According to the memories from the Phoenix’s soul, the Fire Phoenix King simply wanted to seize a position she could never otherwise obtain: the seat of the Clan Leader.

There were many benefits to becoming Clan Leader, namely gaining everything within the Phoenix Ruins. Unfortunately for her, the real key to open them was in Bingxin’s possession.

This led to the scene of Bingxin being sealed away. It wasn’t that the Fire Phoenix King didn’t want to kill her, but that Bingxin had hidden the key, and no one knew where.

In a fit of rage, the Fire Phoenix King imprisoned her, wanting to see just how long she could hold out. At the same time, she began a frantic search for the hidden key.

Who knew that after so much time had passed, Bingxin would actually escape. Lin Xuan didn’t even have to ask to know the Fire Phoenix King would be furious. After all, that lake was later obliterated, supposedly by some powerful expert, though no one knew who.

The reason they had imprisoned Bingxin on the human continent was mainly because it was remote and difficult to reach. Who would have thought she’d be rescued anyway? If they had imprisoned her on the Demon Race Continent, she could have easily been rescued by her followers.

Now, the keys to the Phoenix Race’s Phoenix Ruins were scattered everywhere. He guessed Bingxin had done this on purpose to stir up chaos among the various Demon Races, which in turn would throw the Phoenix Race into disarray.

“So, what’s the situation in the clan now?” Lin Xuan asked.

“Not much, but we did capture a member of the Mutant Sect. They’re being held in the dungeons, and we’ve begun interrogating them about where the others are hiding,” Xie Ling said.

“A member of the Mutant Sect was captured…” Lin Xuan froze. ‘That’s some explosive news, but it definitely can’t be Bingxin.’

Beside them, Yan Cheng kept staring at Lin Xuan, as if trying to read something on his face. After asking a few questions, Lin Xuan decided to shut his mouth. Asking too much might expose him.

Besides, he already knew the general details of the conflict, so he didn’t need to ask much more. ‘At the end of the day, the Fire Phoenix King just wants to secure her position and doesn’t want Bingxin to take it. The other members of the Phoenix Race probably haven’t thought much more about it than that.’

‘They probably think it makes some sense—that someone of impure blood shouldn’t take the throne!’

Led by Xie Ling, they flew rapidly toward the home of the Phoenix Race—Phoenix Island.

This had always been the Phoenix Race’s home. From a distance, they could see a massive island ahead, surrounded by lava, with heat radiating off it in waves. The upside was that the Fire Elemental Power was exceptionally rich here, and the temperature was suitable for them to live in. Overall, it wasn’t too different from where ordinary people lived.

They used wood from Parasol Trees to build their houses, which looked quite beautiful. They hadn’t set up any defenses around the entire island; it just sat there, open. This stemmed from their confidence.

They believed that no one could possibly invade, so why bother with protective restrictions or shields? It wasn’t just Phoenix Island; other powerful races didn’t bother with such things either.

They were at the Divine Beast Level. Who would dare to trespass?

Lin Xuan didn’t dare to trespass either, which was why he was sneaking in. This way, not only could he gather information, but he might even be able to rescue that captured member of the Mutant Sect!

‘I’m definitely on Bingxin’s side, so I have to get that person out of here.’

“I hope this goes smoothly…” A glint flashed in Lin Xuan’s eyes. ‘I hope there are no slip-ups, or I’ll be in grave danger.’
