Soul Emperor Awakening

Chapter 616 Chaotic Arrow Array

After Lin Xuan entered the next stage, the screen showing his location finally appeared, displaying a clear and complete image. The crowd was stunned, thinking their eyes were deceiving them. But after taking a closer look, they saw that Lin Xuan had indeed appeared on the screen.

He appeared completely unharmed, as if nothing had happened. Lin Xuan had been injured, but it turned out not to be a serious issue. Especially with the help of the Phoenix Essence Blood, his body had recovered quickly, so of course he looked perfectly fine.

“Huh? Nothing’s wrong with him? Then why did he stay in the second stage for so long?”

“Right? I thought he’d died in there. Turns out he’s fine. The Black Dragon Race is in for a good show now…”

“Exactly. Two of their disciples were turned into drooling messes, yet he’s completely unscathed. This is a real slap in the face for the Black Dragon Race.”

…

As the members of the Demon Race got a clear look at the screen, they all turned to glance at the Black Dragon Race. Hei Chen, the Dragon King, had an ugly expression on his face. His two finest disciples had been instantly defeated, yet Lin Xuan was completely unharmed. It was a direct slap to his own face.

‘I can’t believe he’s completely fine. What were those two wastes of space even doing? They couldn’t even accomplish that much? What’s the use in keeping them!’ Hei Chen had lost all face. He had sent out two disciples with complete confidence, only for them to be taken out just like that. How could he not be furious?

Jin Wei and his group, on the other hand, breathed a sigh of relief. All that mattered was that Lin Xuan was safe. The whole point was just for him to temper himself a little; if something had gone wrong, the loss would have far outweighed the gain.

They shifted their gazes to Bingxin and the others with her. The primary focus was still on them, so watching their progress was what mattered most.

「Inside the Phoenix Ruins.」

After being teleported, Lin Xuan came to his senses and found himself in a very plain, empty space. There was nothing around him; it was completely barren. There wasn’t even a table or a single stone in sight—just an ordinary, featureless area.

There was only a single, long tunnel stretching before him. The objective of this stage was simple: he just needed to make his way through the tunnel. Successfully reaching the other side meant he would pass the third stage.

Was it difficult? The answer was a definitive yes. It was incredibly difficult.

Lin Xuan frowned and took a step forward. The moment he did, a dozen arrows shot out from all around him at incredible speed. He froze and immediately pulled back, but the lightning-fast volley of arrows still tore several holes in his clothes and even scraped a few bloody lines across his tough Physique.

Fast. It was simply too fast. For an instant, Lin Xuan felt as if he was about to be riddled with holes, or even pinned directly to a wall.

‘So this stage is the Chaotic Arrow Array? This is going to be tough…’ Lin Xuan frowned, finally understanding what he was up against.

When the Elders of the Phoenix Race saw this, their expressions flickered before turning to scorn. “Of all the challenges he could have faced, he had to get this one. This human is doomed,” one said with a sneer. “He obviously spent too much time on the second stage, so the difficulty jumped to a much higher Level. How unfortunate for him…”

“It would be manageable for one of our Phoenix Race, but for a human, the difficulty is significantly higher. If his speed isn’t good enough, I’d say his best bet is to surrender now,” another Elder chimed in mockingly. They held little affection for humans, and seeing Lin Xuan in this predicament, they were clearly reveling in his misfortune.

It wasn’t just the Phoenix Race Elders; the other members of the Demon Race also understood the situation. None of them had entered the Phoenix Ruins, but they had all heard rumors about it.

The trial’s difficulty was somewhat random, but if a participant spent too much time on one stage, the difficulty of the subsequent stages would increase dramatically. This was the penalty for falling behind schedule.

The challenge Lin Xuan now faced was one of the most difficult: the Chaotic Arrow Array. As its name suggested, one needed incredible speed to pass through. Without it, escape was essentially impossible; you would undoubtedly be pierced through by the unyielding storm of arrows.

If you weren’t confident in your speed, it was best to give up immediately; otherwise, you would die in there. Over the years, disciples from the Phoenix Race had perished inside, and their fates had been tragic.

The Phoenix Ruins were designed for them, but that didn’t mean the trials were completely safe. Danger lurked around every corner; it was anything but a secure environment.

Correspondingly, if one managed to pass, the reward would naturally be substantial. The higher the difficulty, the greater the reward; the lower the difficulty, the smaller the reward.

“Heh heh, this human is a dead man. Stupid human, just hurry up and die already!”

“You don’t belong on our Demon Race Continent! Hurry up and die!”

“That’s right! And he occupied our Ice and Snow Tower! Utterly shameless!”

…

The various demons gloated over Lin Xuan’s predicament. The Demon Race and humans were like fire and water to begin with, and the fact that Lin Xuan had occupied their Ice and Snow Tower only fueled their anger.

“Lin Xuan is in a tough spot this time. His speed is decent, but it can’t possibly compare to a Phoenix…” Jin Wei frowned. He hoped Lin Xuan would choose to give up rather than take such a risk.

“Indeed. His greatest strength is his Physique, especially after absorbing your Golden Dragon Bone. But no matter how strong his Physique is, it won’t be able to withstand that barrage…” the Fox King said, shaking her head. If she could project her voice into the trial, she would have already urged Lin Xuan to forfeit.

All they could do now was watch helplessly and see what Lin Xuan would choose: to give up or to press onward.

But upon reflection, they concluded that Lin Xuan would almost certainly choose to continue. They had never seen him back down from a challenge, no matter how small!

They were right. Lin Xuan had no intention of giving up. He wouldn’t quit over a little danger, especially when he hadn’t even made a real attempt. How could he know he would fail if he didn’t even try?

‘This is interesting. It seems I’ll have to charge through in one go. If my speed isn’t fast enough, or my Body Technique isn’t strong enough, it’ll be impossible to pass… and if I can’t pass, I’ll miss out on the reward. That would be a real pity.’

Lin Xuan paused. A red light flashed in his eyes, and with a WHOOSH, a pair of Phoenix Wings burst from his back. After absorbing five drops of Phoenix Essence Blood, the concentration of it within his body had risen dramatically. In this explosive display, massive Phoenix Wings unfurled behind him!

They were larger and more stunning than any he had manifested before, a testament to the high concentration of Phoenix Essence Blood in his body!

“Phoenix Spirit, possess!”

Lin Xuan let out a low roar. Under the possession of the Phoenix’s soul, the Phoenix Essence Blood in his body was stimulated, and with another WHOOSH, the Phoenix Wings on his back expanded once more. As they layered over each other, Lin Xuan’s wings grew so vast they resembled a giant, blooming flower, and an extreme heat began to radiate from them.

The watching demons were dumbfounded by the sight. Lin Xuan could use the Phoenix Wings, and with such incredible power!
