Sovereign of the Ashes

Chapter 1975: The Fury of Destruction

  • Next Chapter

Huff...

Huff...

Heavy breathing echoed from the bottomless abyss.

At this moment, the Great Monkey of Destruction was in a truly miserable state.

The once-magnificent world-class secret treasures he wore now looked like scraps.

The dark-gold chainmail covering him from his chest down to his arms had suffered the worst of it, pierced through and melted.

Blackened burn wounds covered nearly one-third of his body.

A large chunk of flesh was missing from his chest.

Overlord blood poured from his wounds, quickly soaking the Great Monkey of Destruction’s entire body.

The monkey attempted to heal his wounds with his Omnipotent Soul. Still, for the time being, the effect was minimal due to the residual radiation left behind by the Infinity Light’s strike.

It was not that recovery was impossible. Rather, even as he healed, the lingering corrosive effect of the radiation continued to ravage his body.

Even for an overlord, injuries like these would require a period of rest before returning to battle.

Of course, that referred to a Rank Eight overlord.

Had it been an ordinary Rank Seven overlord, that single strike would most likely have finished them off...

Judging from the situation on the battlefield, the Great Monkey of Destruction had not taken the full brunt of the Infinity Light’s attack.

After all, he was the famed Victorious Fighting Buddha of the Immortal Realm. Aside from the founders of the major sects, whom he had always been careful not to provoke, he had been virtually unbeatable across most of the Immortal Realm.

His rich combat experience and countless battlefield victories allowed him to make the wisest decision at the most critical moment.

That much was clear from the wound on his chest, which extended all the way to his right arm.

When facing the Infinity Light’s attack, the Great Monkey of Destruction had ultimately twisted his body to the side, escaping the energy barrage by the narrowest of margins.

Breaking free from the Infinity Light’s lock-on by force was beyond what any ordinary overlord could accomplish.

Even among Rank Eight overlords, the monkey was undoubtedly one of the strongest.

No wonder the Gallant Federation had been willing to pay any price to take him out first.

After taking such a heavy blow, everyone assumed he would retreat for the time being.

The Gallant Federation, in particular, had detected an astonishingly vigorous life force emanating from the very depths of the bottomless abyss.

The intensity of that magnetic field far exceeded the feedback they had received from the Magus Civilization’s Rank Eight overlord Skybearer from[1], as well as Nergal, after both had been struck.

How could this be possible?!

More than one high-ranking federal official watching the scene found it difficult to believe.

In truth, they were still too inexperienced.

Although the Gallant Federation’s database contained extensive records on the Great Monkey of Destruction, most of that information was already hundreds of thousands of years out of date.

Moreover, the Gallant Federation actually knew very little about the monkey’s true origins.

In terms of bloodline and the origin of his cellular particles, he could actually call Skybearer, the Magus Alliance’s Rank Eight geo elemental overlord, his “brother”.

Yes, the Great Monkey of Destruction was, in fact, also a geo-elemental creature, even if he did not look the part.

His initial form had been a stone monkey.

If even Skybearer could withstand a blast from the Gallant Federation’s Infinity Light, then the Great Monkey of Destruction, who was stronger, better equipped, and sharper in battle, should be able to do the same, right?

Moreover, they were actually good friends, having once adventured together in the World of Despair.

Perhaps that, too, had something to do with the innate sense of kinship shared by geo elemental beings.

Transforming into a jet-black streak of light, the Great Monkey of Destruction shot out from the bottomless abyss.

With a bloody hole in his chest and his world-class armor ruined, he now exuded an even more frenzied and brutal aura.

The monkey pulled a violet-gold gourd from his waist and poured every golden pill inside it into his mouth.

Without caring in the slightest about the potency of those pills, he chewed them up and swallowed them.

This gourd was something the Great Monkey of Destruction had “borrowed” during his last visit to the Palace of Eight Views.

Not only did it contain golden pills of immense potency, but the gourd itself was no ordinary artifact.

The monkey’s eyes gradually turned bloodshot, and surging dark flames of destruction ignited across his body and the space around him.

The residual effects of the Infinity Light’s strike had not yet dissipated, but judging by the Great Monkey of Destruction’s current state, this was clearly not going to end peacefully.

It was absurd, really.

Even though the Great Monkey of Destruction was the one severely wounded, he was also the one seeking revenge.

The Gallant Federation’s overlord-class fleet, which had been pursuing and suppressing the Great Sage of Demonic Heaven, was now forced to redirect its firepower. It had no choice but to guard against the threat posed by the wounded monkey.

The medicinal potency of the Eight-Refinement Golden Pills had yet to fully take effect within the Great Monkey of Destruction’s body.

But he could not wait any longer.

The monkey shrank the giant staff in his hand and stuffed it back into his ear. Then, after violently pounding his chest several times, his body swelled to countless times its original size, and he charged straight toward the Gallant Federation fleet.

With every strike against his chest, vast amounts of overlord blood spurted from the wounds across his body.

Yet the loss of this pitch-black blood did not weaken him. On the contrary, it made him seem even more savage and terrifying.

He had put away the massive metal staff because, during the earlier collision with the Infinity Light, his signature weapon had actually suffered significant damage.

The staff, known as Stabilizer of the Four Seas, now had a dent in its middle.

This was the first time the Great Monkey of Destruction’s weapon had ever been damaged! One could only imagine how furious he was at this moment!

Watching the wounded monkey charge once again at full force toward the federal fleet, even the Great Sage of Demonic Heaven on the other side of the battlefield was taken aback.

No wonder the Great Sage Equal to Heaven was hailed as the leader of the Yao Clan’s Eight Great Sages.

He had once wreaked havoc in both the Heavenly Court and the Reincarnation Underworld, yet in the end, neither had been able to stop him.

He truly was one difficult monkey to deal with.

This was a hairy monkey whom even the founding sages of the Immortal Realm had to treat with a degree of respect.

His peerless combat prowess was also a defining feature of the Immortal Realm Civilization.

Moreover, as the Great Monkey of Destruction fought, the Great Sage of Demonic Heaven, who knew him well, noticed ripples spreading beneath his feet, pulsing with an extremely unique law power.

That was the power of destruction!

The Great Monkey of Destruction’s Omnipotent Soul was not infinite, and his combat power was not truly without limit.

However, as the heir to the Path of Destruction, one of his defining traits was his ability to draw constant strength from destruction itself, growing stronger the more he fought.

The massive mechanical planet before them, with its core pierced through and countless lower-tier legions locked in relentless combat across its surface, was producing an enormous amount of destructive power.

That power was the greatest nourishment the Great Monkey of Destruction could use to replenish his strength.

This was also the reason why Destruction Spring of the Myriad Springs World had been so eager to join this war.

Rage, slaughter, devastation, and destruction soon engulfed this large-sized mechanical planet of the federation.

But for the Gallant Federation, there was at least one piece of good news.

No matter how powerful the Great Monkey of Destruction was, he could only continue wreaking havoc on this battlefield for a limited time.

If even the Great Sage of Demonic Heaven could tell that the Great Monkey of Destruction had been severely wounded, how could the Gallant Federation fail to notice?

Once the war on this massive mechanical planet came to an end, whether the Great Monkey of Destruction liked it or not, he would have to rest for a while.

This was a personal directive from Bev, the soul overmage of the Magus Civilization.

She, too, had already received news from this battlefield.

1. Translator’s Recap: Skybearer is the Giant Mountain God from the Grand Amethyst World back in Chapter 1304! He had once endured the assault of the Gallant Federation’s Infinity Light and managed to withdraw from the Saitos Star Domain while carrying a Rank Seven knight overlord. ☜
