Sovereign of the Ashes
Chapter 1998: Ganging Up and Getting Ganged Up On
The Divine Descendants World battlefield...
Sein, who had just been missed by his mentor, suddenly sneezed.
Rank Five mages did not usually sneeze. The reason for this particular reaction was that Sein had just defeated a Rank Five cryo elemental deity.
This battlefield lay in a region of the plane covered in ice and snow.
Divine Descendants World was not a place of eternal spring. As a large-sized world governed by a complete set of laws, it contained nearly every type of planar environment and terrain.
Battles were even taking place beneath the surface of Divine Descendants World.
The Dawn Empire legions had already discovered that beneath many of Divine Descendants World’s continental plates were two to three layers of underground worlds, each containing vast resources.
The Insectoids had demonstrated even greater capability in that regard.
It seemed that their most elite vanguard units had already charged deep into the fourth and fifth underground layers of Divine Descendants World.
Even Overgod Marduk probably would not venture that deep unless absolutely necessary.
Sein had no interest in exploring the depths underground either.
The battles taking place on the surface were more than enough for him to prove himself.
Moreover, the native forces of Divine Descendants World, the legions of Myriad Manifestations World, and the legions of the Gallant Federation were all still primarily fighting on the surface.
The creatures of this world were not “burrowers”. At least for now, they still possessed some fighting spirit.
The cryo elemental deity Sein had just slain was a male Rank Five being with crystal-blue hair, eyebrows, and beard.
Fermera’s lightsaber had cleanly severed his head, leaving a chunk of ice lying at Sein’s feet.
Unlike knights, who had to temper themselves through discipline and direct combat, mages fought differently. When a group fight was possible, Sein had absolutely no intention of fighting solo.
Realizing that escape was impossible, the cryo elemental deity’s final act had been to unleash all his divine power in a near-suicidal burst.
As it turned out, the creatures of Divine Descendants World did indeed possess fighting spirit.
The cryo elemental deity’s self-destruction not only froze part of Fermera’s body, but also caused Sein’s elemental form to suffer some corrosion from his cryo elemental law power.
Compared to the fallen cryo elemental deity, however, Sein’s minor injury was negligible. He did not even need to rest.
After shattering the layer of ice encasing her body, Fermera flew expressionlessly back to Sein’s side.
Just now, when the cryo elemental deity self-destructed, Fermera had been standing in front of Sein and absorbed most of the impact for him.
Before long, Yuri arrived from another direction, piloting the Burning Flame Unit.
In her hand was a broken ice blade, from which a considerable amount of law power still emanated.
It was a fine divine artifact. Even in its damaged state, selling it to the Arriba Chamber of Commerce would fetch at least a million magicoins.
At the very center of the ice blade was a shattered divine relic, most likely belonging to a Rank Four cryo elemental deity.
Sein looked at the ice blade Yuri handed him, his gaze lingering on the shattered divine relic embedded at its center.
“The internal strife within Divine Descendants World seems incredibly intense. Even deities of the same element fight each other this fiercely. They actually went so far as to rip out an opponent’s divine relic and use it as the core of their own divine artifact,” he commented.
“I wonder if the Magus Civilization’s declaration of war will end up causing these Divine Descendants to unite instead.”
He knew nothing about Divine Descendants World’s history, and the law-wielding beings of that world did not dare slander Marduk.
As a result, Sein assumed that what he was seeing was simply the normal course of development for Divine Descendants World.
He even began speculating about what kind of large-sized plane this world truly was, and what sort of past it had once possessed.
Of course, such baseless speculation did little to help Sein in his pursuit of truth. It was merely the natural curiosity of a mage.
Moreover, that curiosity did not last long. Compared to the history of Divine Descendants World, Sein was far more interested in the physical specimens of its creatures.
Just as Sein finished gathering the spoils before him and was preparing to head to the next battlefield, a thunderous boom rang out from high in the sky.
A Rank Six demon, engulfed in flames, plummeted from above and crashed into a range of snow-covered mountains in the distance.
Behind the Rank Six demon, the auras of two deities from Divine Descendants World and one powerhouse from Myriad Manifestations World followed close behind.
Sein exchanged a glance with Fermera, then said, “That demon from the Quatar Star Pirates is our ally. Come with me first. We’ll go help him.”
“Yuri, pilot the Burning Flame Unit and contact the God of Black Mist, Ximen Feixiao, and the others on the surrounding battlefields. Tell them to head over here and provide support as well,” he instructed.
“I never expected that even though we hold an overwhelming advantage on nearly every battlefield in Divine Descendants World, there’d still be demon kings being hunted down and besieged like this. That guy’s luck is seriously rotten!” Sein said, shaking his head.
Yuri clearly wanted to go with Sein, but the battle over there was obviously on a higher level. Having her rally reinforcements was the best choice.
The God of Black Mist and the others were not far from here, so summoning them would not take too long.
After giving Yuri her instructions, Sein immediately took Fermera and flew toward the place where the Rank Six demon had fallen.
Sein was no stranger to demons. After all, he possessed a considerable amount of demonic bloodline power himself.
As they drew closer to the distant snow-capped mountain range, he activated his Ashen Demon Lawful Body.
From a distance, it looked almost as though a demon and an angel had come to the aid of their unfortunate comrade.
By the time Sein and Fermera arrived at the battlefield, they saw the Rank Six demon rampaging through a snow-covered mountain basin below.
“Face me one-on-one if you dare!” the demon king roared, hurling insults at his opponents in the complex Abyssan language.
Unfortunately, his opponents paid him no mind.
This demon was no weakling. His strength was roughly at the mid stage of Rank Six.
His enormous fleshy wings beat ceaselessly, though they were already covered in scratches and bloodstains.
Of the three powerful enemies currently attacking him, two were Rank Six beings, while the third was a native deity of Divine Descendants World with peak Rank Five strength.
Ever since entering Divine Descendants World, all outside powerhouses, Sein included, had felt the effects of significant planar suppression.
Because of that, this battle was extremely dangerous for the Rank Six demon, especially considering he was already badly wounded.
The first “gift” Sein delivered upon arrival was a pillar of crimson inferno energy aimed straight at the three enemies.
Immediately afterward, the eight metallic wings on Fermera’s back spread wide, and a barrage of energy beams forcibly disrupted their assault on the demon.
Seeing enemy reinforcements arrive, the Rank Six Wanderer from Myriad Manifestations World, who had been trying to finish off the severely wounded demon, was the first to consider retreating.
In this Divine Descendants World War, even a blind man could see that the Magus Civilization held an overwhelming advantage.
If they continued fighting here, they would soon be the ones getting beaten up.
Just as the Rank Six Wanderer began thinking of retreat, the two native deities quickly caught on and also decided to withdraw.
However, the Rank Six demon was not about to let that happen!
“What? Think you can come and go as you please?!”
His deep, resonant Abyssan voice shook the surrounding snow-capped mountains to their core.
To coordinate with Sein and Fermera’s attack, the severely wounded demon suddenly spat a mouthful of blood onto his Greatsword of Hell.
Raging demonic flames flared across the blade once more.
With a roar, the Rank Six demon swung his sword at the native deity closest to him.
