Chapter 69: Total Annihilation
Chapter 69: Chapter 69: Total Annihilation
While the group was pinned down by Shi Tie.
Xiang Yi was about to peek out and check the situation.
Just then, a few bullets flew in from the front, striking the wall next to him.
The two men who looked like soldiers didn’t have any cover from Shi Tie’s direction, but they had survived by using the others as human shields.
One was watching Xiang Yi, while the other warily eyed Shi Tie’s position.
At Xiang Yi’s command, Shi Tie had already pulled back after emptying its magazine and was now reloading.
The 7.62mm rifle it was using only had a little over sixty bullets in total.
The ammo it had taken from the robot earlier was a mixed batch; after firing one magazine, only thirty rounds remained.
It would take two or three seconds to reload, and once it pulled the trigger again, the remaining ammo would be gone in less than a second.
’If the ones leading this group really are soldiers, we’ll be in serious trouble without Shi Tie’s covering fire.’
He had to seize the initiative.
"Protect your heart! Charge out and open fire!"
Xiang Yi’s command was issued again.
Shi Tie raised the rifle with one hand, protecting its heart with the other, and charged out, firing as it went.
From its angle at the bottom of the stairs, it couldn’t hit the men using corpses for cover, but charging out was a completely different story.
The two soldiers reacted extremely quickly. They leaped up from behind the corpses to find new cover, while simultaneously finding the time to fire a precise three-round burst in Shi Tie’s direction.
Bullets struck Shi Tie’s body, and even its head.
But some grayish-black liquid oozed from the wounds; they had no real effect on Shi Tie.
Growing flesh rapidly pushed out the bullets, and the wounds healed before their very eyes.
"What the hell is that thing?!"
The two soldiers had already found new cover, but the remaining five Scavengers were a step too slow.
They were so focused on shooting alongside the two soldiers that they had no instinct to find cover for themselves.
Not only did they fail to restrict Shi Tie’s movements, but they also exposed themselves to its line of fire.
As for Shi Tie, even while firing one-handed and on the move, it could still control the rifle’s recoil.
Another half-magazine of bullets flew. The two wounded men who had been wailing on the ground suddenly sprouted several more bleeding bullet holes.
Of the seven who could still move, two lost their lives in an instant.
Blood poured from their bodies, staining the hospital floor red.
The two soldiers didn’t give up because of their comrades’ deaths. They continued to fight back, and several of their shots hit Shi Tie’s head.
Aside from the bullets stopped by its hard skull, one bullet shattered one of Shi Tie’s eyeballs, pierced its brain, and lodged inside its cranial cavity.
Although non-cardiac injuries couldn’t kill Shi Tie outright, they still affected its bodily functions.
Losing an eye meant it lost some of its visual capability.
Coincidentally, the eye that had been destroyed was the one it used to aim.
There was no time to switch aiming eyes, and the remaining half-magazine was emptied without aiming.
Fortunately, Shi Tie had already charged right up to the remaining five men.
It gripped the rifle by the barrel and swung the stock, smashing it directly into the nearest person.
The rifle’s metal frame made a twisting sound as the man’s neck snapped sideways, and he collapsed to the ground.
He twitched uncontrollably on the ground for a few moments before going still.
Instead of moving past him to the next enemy, Shi Tie tossed aside the rifle and, like a wild beast, used the most brutal methods to tear him apart. It was a savage sight that would make anyone tremble in fear.
One Scavenger let out a strange cry. Fear completely overwhelmed him. He dropped his gun, turned, and ran for the hospital exit.
"Stop!"
One of the soldiers shouted at him.
But he didn’t even look back, just kept running toward the hospital entrance.
Before he could make it out of the hospital, a crimson laser beam suddenly shot out from the room beside the stairs, sweeping across his legs.
Blood-red crystals began to grow, weaving through his flesh and blood, and a horrifying scream tore from his throat.
The soldier poked his rifle out from cover and fired a few shots in Xiang Yi’s direction, forcing him back again.
But Shi Tie had already locked onto its next target.
While its size was a hindrance for long-distance pursuit, in a short-range burst, its physique guaranteed both speed and power.
It charged in front of a Scavenger, grabbed his face with its right hand, and slammed him into one of the hospital’s load-bearing columns.
His skull shattered from the immense force, instantly dyeing the stone pillar red.
In the blink of an eye, a team of fifteen had been reduced to just the two men who looked like soldiers.
"Stop killing. Subdue them."
Xiang Yi’s order arrived just in time.
Shi Tie altered its ferocious posture, protected its heart, and charged toward the soldier closer to it.
The man had intended to run, but the crimson laser swept over again, cutting off his escape route.
He had no choice. With a desperate shout, he held down the trigger, firing at Shi Tie.
But Shi Tie had already closed the distance and slapped him to the ground.
Only one man was left.
Xiang Yi peeked out from behind cover again, only to see the man toss his gun away, raise his hands to show he was unarmed, and then walk out from his cover and kneel on the ground.
Seeing Shi Tie about to go over and deliver another slap, Xiang Yi quickly stopped it.
Xiang Yi carefully walked out of the room, the muzzle of his Laser Rifle aimed squarely at the surrendered man the entire time.
As Xiang Yi got closer, he could clearly see the words on the man’s camouflage uniform epaulet.
City Defense Garrison, Thirteenth Detachment.
’He really is from the military.’
’But that doesn’t matter now.’
Xiang Yi walked up, kicked the man to the ground, and skillfully tied him up hogtie-style.
The soldier seemed defiant. As Xiang Yi was tying him up, he demanded, "Who sent you? Was it Guo Long?"
Xiang Yi slapped him to shut him up.
"Cut the crap. I ask, you answer. Who are you?"
The soldier’s gaze wavered, but he seemed to have no intention of speaking.
Xiang Yi immediately pointed toward the Scavenger near the hospital entrance, who had passed out from the pain.
"Take a good look at him. He was only wounded in the legs, nothing fatal. But those crystals have already knotted up with his muscles and are in direct contact with his nerves. You should know how painful that is, right?"
The soldier seemed even more hesitant but still didn’t speak.
Xiang Yi wasn’t about to humor him. He raised his Laser Rifle, aimed it at the man’s left hand, and said, "If you don’t believe me, you can experience it for yourself."
The soldier was tough, but the fear in his eyes grew more and more pronounced.
Especially when he saw the bizarre, almost excited expression on Xiang Yi’s face—the thrill of the kill—the fear in his heart became impossible to hide.
’Since I’ve already surrendered and given up resisting, there’s no need to suffer any more unnecessary pain.’
"Wait! I’ll talk! What do you want to know?"
