Chapter 95: Chapter 95: Death List

Guo Hu knew the act was up. His tone turned vicious. "Who the hell are you?"

Xiang Yi didn’t answer, instead taking off his sunglasses.

Guo Hu stared at the face—clearly young, yet for some reason gaunt and withered—and for a moment couldn’t recall where he had seen it before.

Suddenly, it clicked. He pointed at Xiang Yi and said, "You’re the wanted man!"

"You actually dared to come looking for me? Aren’t you afraid the company will send people to kill you right now?"

Guo Hu put heavy emphasis on the word "company," as if it were something truly impressive.

"I’m right here. So where are the people from the company?"

Xiang Yi replied with complete indifference. ’After all, the current government is still the one in power.’

’Getting infiltrated or having a satellite hacked is one thing, but would they really let company men just waltz in here openly?’

Xiang Yi ignored Guo Hu, continuing to scroll through the terminal.

Soon, he found a photo one of Guo Hu’s underlings had sent him.

It was a close-up shot of Xiang Yi, taken at the junkyard.

’One of the gangsters who showed up must have been wearing a pinhole camera or something of the sort.’

Afterward, Guo Hu had sent this photo to a contact named "Zhou Xiaoxiao."

’This Zhou Xiaoxiao must be with the company or the prison.’

So, he’d found the culprit who got him exposed.

Without realizing it, a chilling smile crept across Xiang Yi’s face.

"Alright. You’re of no use to me anymore."

He aimed the Laser Rifle in his hands at Guo Hu’s lower body and fired, meeting Guo Hu’s terrified gaze.

The lights in the room suddenly came on, the electrical system having been repaired. However, it seemed no one was coming to disturb Xiang Yi and Guo Hu’s private time.

Guo Hu let out a series of agonizing screams before the pain sent him into shock.

’Left alone, he’ll probably die from the pain soon.’

Xiang Yi paid him no mind, continuing to scroll through the terminal.

On the terminal, it seemed Guo Hu had labeled each of his contacts with their identity, apparently to make them easier to remember.

There was his bodyguard, Wang Xi; the manager of Tian Er Road, Tu Xinghuai; the deputy manager, Pingzi; the director of the Purple Star Nightclub, Zhu Xing, and so on...

The list included quite a few influential figures.

For instance, Tao Huo, the chief of police for the Southeast City District, and Bao Yukai, the head of the Customs and Materials General Inspection Office at the Space Port.

The content of their chats wasn’t just about transactions in the local gray economy; it was also about these individuals using Guo Hu’s connections to contact the company and the prison.

With the current government having suddenly sealed the ports and halted all import-export trade in and out of the colony, many people had already sensed something was wrong and were looking for an alternative path.

The existence of Guo Long and Guo Hu offered these people such an opportunity.

And now, Guo Hu was dead.

The company’s infiltration of the entire colony might not be completely finished, but in this area, at least, it had been cut in half.

But merely halting the infiltration wasn’t enough. The established network wouldn’t collapse just because a single node was removed.

All those people who had conversed with Guo Hu were targets for the company’s expansion and infiltration efforts—and they were also obstacles to Xiang Yi’s own survival.

Judging by the level of detail in the chat logs on the terminal...

Guo Hu hadn’t made any effort to delete these records, which were more than enough to serve as evidence.

Perhaps he was worried about being used and then cast aside by the political players, so he had kept all the evidence perfectly intact.

’How... convenient.’

Xiang Yi recorded everyone connected to Guo Hu on his own terminal, compiling them into a list.

He then used his Spiritual Energy to speed up his thoughts, rapidly scanning through all the chat logs. Anyone who was even suspected of mentioning the company was specially flagged.

Though his head still ached a little when he used his Spiritual Energy, it was well worth it.

’I just have to go down this list and kill them one by one. I can’t go wrong.’

Xiang Yi felt his own bloodlust was becoming a bit much.

’But so what? From the moment they made a move against him in prison... no, from the moment the company sent him to prison, they had all deserved to die.’

But in a city of tens of millions, killing people—especially specific targets—wasn’t actually that easy.

It had been almost two hours since Xiang Yi had gotten out, and he had only managed to kill a total of three people.

’Just kill as many as I can?’

Xiang Yi shook his head. He’d thought of a better way.

’This is probably by government design,’ he thought. ’They know these kinds of places are bound to fester, so they deliberately herd them into one area for easier management and containment.’

Even Guo Hu’s current hotel wasn’t far from those businesses.

’So...’

Xiang Yi picked up the terminal and sent a message to each of the people noted as managers: "Come to my location now. Quick."

Before long, a knock sounded at Guo Hu’s door. "Boss Hu, what’s going on this late at night?"

The door opened quickly.

But he wasn’t greeted by Guo Hu. He was greeted by a Laser Rifle.

「Within half an hour.」

The four surviving managers of Guo Long’s gang arrived one after another at Guo Hu’s room.

Of course, not a single one of them made it back out alive.

This was Xiang Yi’s most direct form of retaliation.

All of the top brass of Guo Long’s gang in this region had been wiped out.

Although Guo Long wasn’t dead yet, Xiang Yi refused to believe he could still command his gang.

’From now on, if anyone dares to step up as manager, I’ll just come back and kill them. As a Spiritual Ability User, how could I possibly fail to kill an ordinary person?’

’Gangs are just a disorderly mob. Without anyone to manage them, what reason do they have to stick together?’

’Once the gang collapses, what good will Guo Long be on his own?’

’It’s a good thing I had Guo Hu’s terminal. Otherwise, hunting them down one by one wouldn’t have been nearly this easy.’

’But this trick only works on people with a lower status than Guo Hu. It won’t be so easy with the higher-ups.’

’Guo Hu couldn’t order those people around, nor could he summon them for a private meeting in the middle of the night. And by tomorrow, the news of his death will be impossible to contain.’

’I have to squeeze out the last bit of value from Guo Hu tonight...’

’Then again, maybe not?’

’The truly important people in this network must be those inside the government.’

’And as government employees, their information will be on their respective department websites.’

’Getting their basic information won’t be difficult; it’s finding their exact addresses that will be hard to investigate.’

’But there must be a way.’

’There might be intel on the Dark Zone website, or maybe even from the robots.’

’As long as I can grab one of them, given how well they know each other, their home addresses can’t be much of a secret among themselves.’

’The key, then, is how to find the first one.’

"Wait."

While lost in thought, Xiang Yi casually searched for the chief of police online.

The top result was a news article from yesterday.

"With the recent spike in illegal and criminal incidents, the Southeast City District’s chief of police has been working late into the night for several days directing operations, a true show of professional dedication..."

Xiang Yi didn’t bother reading the rest of the drivel.

What mattered was the implication of the article.

’The chief of police works late into the night, huh?’

’The current time seems just about right for that.’

The Southeast City police station wasn’t too far from the hotel, either.

Xiang Yi closed the terminal, looking through the hotel’s floor-to-ceiling window in the direction of the police station.

’Just you wait,’ he thought. ’I’m on my way.’
