Chapter 1364: Chapter 1340: The Threat Behind Refusal
The car trailing behind clings tightly, always oscillating between a car and a half’s distance. Shao Qinyi furrows his brows, keeping this up for long, maybe other cars will catch up.
"Chairman, should we take measures? This way I’m afraid there’ll be other reinforcements." Shao Qinyi’s speculation isn’t baseless. After a burst of gunfire, the car that shot at them suddenly vanished, falling far behind. Now another car is tightly following them, and for them, they don’t have any weapon to counteract. Besides, the crucial point is that here in Palermo, Quan Xianglin doesn’t want any commotion, so quite often, they’ll end up shrinking back.
"Shake them off!" Quan Xianglin lifts his head. Though he’s still sandwiched in between, he’s evidently not as panic-stricken as earlier.
Shao Qinyi remains silent. If he can’t fight, he can only flee.
In the rear-view mirror, the front of the red Ford has emerged. Shao Qinyi fiercely turns the steering wheel, dashing out of the lane during a brief opening, maneuvering into the space between two cars. It’s precisely when approaching the city center, so traffic starts to get heavier, which is good news for Shao Qinyi. He bets they wouldn’t dare to fire in front of so many people. However...
There are always reckless desperados in this world, those who don’t care about innocent people. So when the red Ford begins to drive neck-and-neck with Shao Qinyi, it’s already too late to evade.
"Chairman?" Shao Qinyi requests instruction from Quan Xianglin again. Without retaliation, it’s hard to endure a second wave of attack.
Quan Xianglin knows what Shao Qinyi is worried about. He sits steadily in the back seat. "Wait!" After a long pause, he utters just this word, suddenly leaving Shao Qinyi bewildered.
Wait, wait for what? Shao Qinyi has no time to ask, watching as a gun barrel extends from the car window. He makes a sharp turn, and the entire front of the car crashes into the body of the red Ford, denting a hollow into the chassis.
The collision causes the two cars to entangle with each other. The sudden noise triggers other vehicles to brake instinctively, congesting the entire road due to the accident, which, along with other car collisions, initiates a series of traffic accidents.
"Rush through!" Quan Xianglin suddenly opens his eyes, hollering as he spots an empty spot ahead.
Shao Qinyi maintains his position, squeezing the red Ford forward. Just as an Audi attempts to circumvent a rear-ended car upfront, he steps on the gas, nudging the Audi’s left front to fit into the vacant spot, escaping the pursuit through the side.
The red Ford gets stuck behind the Audi, wanting to pass unless it crashes the Audi out of the way or kills the people inside to dislodge it. Obviously, such a plan is unrealistic, and due to the traffic accident, the sound of sirens is getting closer.
Shao Qinyi slows the vehicle, watching in the rear-view mirror as the red Ford and another car turn around and leave, leaving only the Audi’s owner cursing on the road.
"Let’s head to the police station." Quan Xianglin instructs Shao Qinyi to drive to his intended destination.
The shell-ridden body and the battered, out-of-shape front seem to lament their misery. So when Rochester receives a call from Mess and rushes to the police station parking lot, he can’t help but marvel at the car’s sorry state.
"Good heavens, surviving this kind of crash is really tough." Rochester laments to himself, then immediately calls his subordinates to start inspecting the shell and gun model, seemingly trying to determine the origins through the production batch, identifying whose responsibility this is.
Quan Xianglin sits in Mess’s office. He’s a victim; if not for Shao Qinyi, he might have died in the recent chase.
After Quan Mingyuan, Mess thought he wouldn’t have to deal with such a big shot, even if there was, it would be his minister, not him. But this time, he came directly to him, presumably related to another matter. Experienced Mess absolutely wouldn’t speak first. Staying silent is often a strategy; speaking easily without understanding the other party’s intention would only bury himself.
"Director, I’m sorry for the direct contact. Earlier it was just to escape the chase, so I couldn’t wait for the traffic police. But as it’s our Chairman’s personal safety issue, I hope you can accommodate us." Shao Qinyi speaks first.
Mess doesn’t directly connect to the topic but waits until Rochester reports the situation before leaning back in his office chair.
"Mr. Quan, have you offended some gang members? From the source of the firearms, these people seem to come from an American gang; the weapons used were from a stolen batch earlier."
"An American Gang?" Shao Qinyi shows a startled expression. "We’ve always had no ties over there, there shouldn’t be any grudge."
"If that’s the case, then someone’s bribed them." Mess sighs. Facing such nerve-wracking matters, one would usually reassure the victim, but this time, this special person isn’t easy to dismiss. "I’ll report this up quickly, requesting assistance from the other police. Results will follow soon."
"I don’t need such official talk. Even if you report the American Gang issue up, in the end, it’ll be left to the Xiao Family to handle. Now I suspect the mastermind behind this is the Xiao Family. Isn’t this contradicting?" Quan Xianglin snorts coldly, retracting his pupils, his hawk-like eyes fixing on Mess, as if trying to see through what intentions the Director holds.
"I understand Mr. Quan’s feelings, but we’re about evidence. Without concrete evidence, we can’t capture the target you provide us."
"The Director doesn’t believe what I said, huh?"
Mess raises a brow. At this moment, Quan Xianglin seems like someone completely unreasonable, obstinate about his own beliefs.
"Mr. Quan, I can only ensure our police will fully trace these people’s whereabouts, and find the mastermind. As for Mr. Quan’s safety, I suggest you contact the security department, due to your special status, I can’t take any private actions."
"I’ve always heard that the Palermo Police Station Director is quite principled; today, Quan has experienced it. I’ll consider your suggestion, but please give me a result quickly, next time, you won’t have it so easy."
The last few sentences are clearly spoken in a threatening tone, warning Mess that not following his intent would result in dire consequences.
After sending off this formidable figure, Mess drives to Sin City, hoping his certainty can get Xiao Lin’s assurance. (To be continued.
