Chapter 1366: Chapter 1342: The Hidden Repeller

Danger is omnipresent, especially for someone as perceptive as Mess.

In fact, he wasn’t sure if Xiao Lin’s goodwill would really have much effect on Hong, but as an attempt and due to all of Fourth Master’s various efforts, he held hope.

Chopin once mentioned Xiao Lin’s unique constitution, but for the two who never truly planned to go abroad, their understanding of each other remained at a childhood level. Given Chopin’s status in the Xiao Family, it was difficult to meet Xiao Lin, so all knowledge was based merely on hearsay.

After leaving Caesar Street, Mess was still immersed in a miracle. If he hadn’t seen it with his own eyes, he would never believe there was such a magical existence in this world.

There’s no need to investigate whether Hong is human anymore, as Xiao Lin’s various tones suggested that Hong might be a deceased child. But how Mu Rongyun achieved it was something he didn’t want to know. Just like Fourth Master, no matter how mighty or supposedly immortal someone is, in the end, they still die.

So, when Mu Rongyun disappeared from Palermo, Hong’s condition began to wither like losing a source, with death spots appearing on the body, expanding, showing the post-mortem state entirely. He thought Hong would die without Mu Rongyun, that he would truly die again. However, Xiao Lin let him witness a miracle, making him understand why Mu Rongyun needed Xiao Lin so much, the reason Fourth Master would go to any lengths to obtain Xiao Lin.

In Sin City, he didn’t find Xiao Lin, but he knew he hadn’t left Palermo. Due to Quan Xianglin’s arrival, the whole of Palermo plunged into a very subtle state. The mafia bosses, who used to give him headaches, were surprisingly at peace, staying obediently within their territories. Meanwhile, the noise caused by these outsiders seemed like they were about to start a war, yet frustratingly so, no evidence could support this assumption.

After a bumpy ride, the car entered the neighborhood. There was nothing unusual seen in the rearview mirror, only a small wobble before the car drove onto a smooth road, which Mess didn’t pay much attention to and parked directly in front of his courtyard.

From Hong’s place to his own was indeed not far. Just as Mess walked up the steps, he suddenly stopped, pulling out a gun and slowly approached his door.

His foot brushed against the door, which was tightly shut. Mess detoured to the back of the house and found nothing unusual. Could it be his imagination? He gazed at the streetlight in front of his door; the shattered glass lay on the ground, and the entire area was dark, unlike his surroundings.

Mess hesitated for a moment but decided to enter through the main door. There were no signs of disturbance in the room, neither upstairs to the bedroom nor the bathroom and kitchen showed changes. Once sure of no danger, Mess put away his gun and entered the bathroom, exhausted from a long tiring day.

Just as Mess entered the bathroom, a few shadows slipped into the house. The faint sounds caught the attention of the person in the bathroom; he turned on the shower, letting the water flow down, while he hid behind the door.

A shadow passed the door, pausing for a moment before someone pushed open the bathroom door. Mess held his breath and, as the intruder just entered the bathroom, caught his wrist, flipping him backward, while covering his mouth with the other hand, dragging him into the bathroom.

"Who are you?" Mess deliberately lowered his voice to ask.

The restrained person bent, exerted force with both feet, rebounding with one hand, and kicked his right foot toward Mess’s chest. Unprepared, Mess stumbled backward, loosening his grip.

The masked intruder seized the opportunity to pull out a short knife and swung it horizontally.

Slash! A blood trail appeared on Mess’s left arm, startling him. He dared not be careless any longer. Seizing a clothes rack as a weapon, he defended against the short knife, while using one foot to kick the low cabinet by the side to block the bathroom door.

Mess wasn’t deficient in skills himself, but compared to the person in front of him, he seemed somewhat inferior. Soon, under the opponent’s continuous attacks, he sustained multiple injuries.

The masked man didn’t seem inclined to prolong the fight. After swinging out a slash, he leapt up, kicking a few successive times to force Mess back into the corner. Then, with a roll, quickly reached Mess, thrusting the short knife straight toward his abdomen.

A clang resounded, followed by a pained cry from the masked man, who stumbled backward, dodging to the side.

Mess opened his eyes, not yet clear on what happened, when he saw another person appear in the bathroom. The short knife used to assault him lay before him, and the person fighting the masked man looked very slender and tall from their back. Their clean and swift moves reminded Mess of someone.

"Young Master Xiao?"

After knocking out the masked man with a punch and a kick, the man jumped out the window and quickly, Mess immediately heard sounds of fighting coming from outside the bathroom. After a brief moment of panic, Mess rushed over to check on the masked man, tore off a belt, tied him to the water pipe, and quickly called the police, then followed out of the bathroom.

The ambushers numbered at least five or six, yet none were a match for the man in black. Within a few rounds, they all fell to the ground, unconscious.

Mess watched the shadow standing in the room, his chest heaving indicating the rhythmic movement after intense exertion. "Young Master Xiao!"

The man in black glanced at Mess, then turned and leapt out the window, disappearing from Mess’s view.

"Wait!" Mess rushed forward in two or three steps, but outside the window, only silhouettes of trees swayed, not a single person in sight.

Police cars continuously flooded into the neighborhood, and Mess cooperated with colleagues to bring the assailants back to the police station for overnight interrogation. He couldn’t help but admire the precision of the man in black, who only caused unconsciousness without inflicting fatal injuries.

The interrogation proceeded in silence. Mess stood behind a special mirror, growing increasingly puzzled by the ambushers. These people came from various countries, assembled into a team of diverse ethnicities, and from their silent demeanor, it was evident that they belonged to a well-trained organization.

Rochester emerged from the interrogation room and shook his head at Mess. Despite an entire night of relentless questioning, these people hadn’t uttered a single word, as if mute.

"These people are tight-lipped, but what’s certain is that they’re definitely not from our local mafia." Rochester continued, observing Mess’s expression. "Chief, aside from you, was there anyone else at the time?" It wasn’t just a matter of doubting his chief; he simply couldn’t fathom how so many formidable opponents could be subdued in an instant.

Mess wasn’t pondering the identities of these individuals; he knew very well who it was, but why Xiao Lin appeared there remained a mystery. (To be continued.
