Chapter 666 - 592: The Jimmy Show
Chapter 666: Chapter 592: The Jimmy Show
Live on the set of ABC’s *Jimmy Kimmel Live!*.
Jimmy Kimmel held up a card and read from it with a straight face, "A message from Ruben Fleischer of New Orleans says, ’Chen, I love you. You saved my butt?’"
He looked at the camera with a dazed, blank expression, then glanced at Chen Yu beside him, and then back at the card.
"Butt?" he asked again.
Playing along, Chen Yu shot up with mock-anxiety, snatched the card from Jimmy Kimmel’s hand, tossed it aside, and said to the camera, "Alright, next one."
"NO!"
Jimmy Kimmel put his head in his hands.
Sitting on Chen Yu’s other side, Durant and Oden couldn’t help but cover their mouths, snickering.
Jimmy Kimmel exclaimed, "What on earth happened? The butt! Chen, what exactly did you do to Ruben’s butt?"
"Oh, and Ruben Fleischer? Chen, you have to tell me she’s a beautiful woman."
"Director, I want a picture! I want to see the butt that Chen saved!"
Jimmy Kimmel shouted at the camera.
As he spoke, he covered his ear, pretending to listen to his earpiece, and said excitedly, "Folks, our amazing director has gotten the picture. He’s telling me I won’t be disappointed."
It was Chen Yu’s turn to play along and try to stop Jimmy Kimmel.
Off-camera, a stage director holding a photo was about to walk on set.
"Kevin, hold him back for me!" Chen Yu yelled, turning to Durant.
Durant, completely unsure if Chen Yu genuinely wanted to stop him or if it was just part of the act, stood up dazedly, but it was too late.
The stage director ran forward, holding up the picture.
Chen Yu sat back down and covered his face, unable to watch, repeatedly muttering, "No, no."
An excited Jimmy Kimmel went up, took the large photo, and ripped off the cloth covering it.
"Fuck!"
He let out a strange cry. The photo wasn’t of a curvaceous beauty, but of a greasy, middle-aged man who looked to be about 300 pounds, wearing a hospital gown and standing next to Chen Yu, giving a thumbs-up to the camera.
His face had even been thoughtfully blurred out.
"Adam!"
Jimmy roared in frustration. Adam was the name of the backstage director.
He straightened his tie, sat back down, picked up the card from before, and read, "Alright, our Mr. Fleischer... he runs a chain of women’s lingerie stores?"
He paused again, a look of confused bewilderment on his face.
"COME ON!"
Jimmy yelled directly at the camera, "Adam, you bastards, bring out the picture of Miss Fleischer! I’m talking about the real one."
"Chen, tell me this isn’t real!"
He held up the photo from under the desk.
"Jimmy, believe me, that is Miss... no, Mr. Fleischer," Chen Yu said, intentionally misspeaking before quickly correcting himself. He then waved a hand at the camera. "But that’s not important. In the eyes of an orthopedic surgeon, there isn’t much difference between a model’s perky butt and a fat guy’s butt."
After a pause, Chen Yu added, "Well, there might be some difference. It’s just harder to find the bones."
Jimmy listened blankly, then gave a dramatic shudder. "Chen, that’s a dark joke."
With that, he went back to reading the card. "Our Miss... ah, no, Mister Fresher... he says in his message, ’Thank you, Chen, for performing surgery on me and saving my femoral head. But unfortunately, I now have a new problem.’"
"And he wants to know why your clinic is so hard to get an appointment for. He’s also curious why you can’t just stay in your clinic and perform surgeries, but instead are always running around—one moment in Europe, the next in China, then in Greece."
"You’ve also bought a sports team and created a TV show. He asks if you’re going to start singing and making movies next."
"Chen, will you?" Jimmy looked up and pressed.
Chen Yu looked embarrassed and didn’t answer.
Jimmy continued reading, "He also wants to know if you don’t want to be a doctor anymore, or if the things you’re doing now just make more money."
Chen Yu remained embarrassed.
Jimmy put down the card and added, "We also interviewed a lot of people on the street, and they all expressed the same sentiment."
「The camera cut away.」
A woman with her face blurred out said, "You know, I tried to get an appointment at his clinic for eight solid months. I never got in, and then my back pain just... went away on its own! I’m cured!"
A middle-aged man holding a beer was stopped. He said to the camera, "The Miracle Doctor? Yeah, I know him. He should just stay in the operating room where he belongs and do surgery."
One person after another appeared, all complaining about Chen Yu.
"So, Chen, why?"
Jimmy spread his hands and asked, "Is it really because they’re paying you too much?"
With the camera zoomed in on his face, Chen Yu gave an embarrassed shrug and admitted, "Alright, fine. They’re paying me way too much."
"I knew it!"
Jimmy slammed the table and yelled at the camera, "The honorable Mr. O’Harley, did you hear that? Yes, I’m talking to you! Because you people gave Chen too much money, all these patients suffering from illnesses aren’t able to get treatment from him!"
O’Harley was a High Level president in ABC’s production department.
The Jimmy Show was pre-recorded, so the viewer message and even the man-on-the-street interviews were all performed by actors.
However, this was a question Chen Yu wanted to briefly address anyway.
"Of course I love medicine, and I hope to save more people. For example, my team just recently developed a new medical technology that can better treat cartilage wear. This could save countless professional athletes and patients."
This was essentially an advertisement, which was one of the reasons Chen Yu had come on the Jimmy Show.
"The reason I’m doing what I’m doing now is because I want to use my knowledge to do more for professional sports, to advance the field of sports medicine, and to make professional sports more scientific and better. I want to help countless athletes avoid injuries. That’s what I’ve been striving for."
"Just like Kevin and Greg!"
Chen Yu’s tone shifted as he pulled Durant and Oden into the conversation.
"Because of our show, they’ve been exposed to higher-level, more professional training. They’re able to develop good training habits and improve their skills more effectively, all while ensuring they stay healthy."
"I think many people can see that their skills have undergone a world-shaking transformation compared to when the show first started."
"And I hope that through this program, kids in front of their TVs who want to get into sports can learn more professional training methods."
After each episode, there was a 10-minute bonus segment where a professional Trainer would appear and teach some healthy, scientific training methods.
"Jimmy, I’m not the main event today. You should be asking Kevin and the others."
Bringing Durant and Oden onto the Jimmy Show was to generate some final hype for tomorrow’s championship final.
Jimmy’s gaze swept over Durant and Oden before finally locking onto Durant.
And his very first question almost made Durant cough up blood.
"Kevin, have you ever wanted to kill Chen?"
After all, the decision regarding Beasley was, arguably, a direct result of Chen Yu’s actions.
