Chapter 12: What has been the hold up?

< "Hey! Hey Beth!" >

< "Stop stop stop! I’m looking, ok!" >

The ladies were still engaged in their duties until a while ago but suddenly, they felt a sudden certain pain in their ears: something that wasn’t random.

It was the pain of someone externally exposing their body to a great shock, something like a physical or mental trauma.

The machines that were planted inside their head area reacted to this by sending an emergency signal to the other parties on their network, and since only one of them wasn’t responding right now, they knew something was wrong with their husband.

< "Alright I got it!" >

Since they were worried about him, Beth hacked into his thought transmitter and turned on the emergency listening function.

She also brought up the real time body data on her unique holographic screen, and from the looks of it, aside from a blunt trauma to the back of his head, nothing worse had happened to him.

He was still unconscious right now but they could still hear certain voices right now.

< "Shrrrr..." >

< "Terrrr...!" >

The voices seemed distant but they were too distinct to not decipher.

< "Beth, be on guard." >

The voices were what one heard when they were near the workshop area near the annex building.

That place wasn’t far from where Andrew had been before he fell, but if no one noticed him being taken away, then this wasn’t the work of an individual or inner group.

People involved in this were more likely to be those who were investigating the disappearance of the Prince.

At the very least, this might be the work of the palace security that was suspicious of him.

< "I told him that bastard was the wrong choice for an identity!" >

< "Sammy we can’t do anything about that right now. It’s not like he would have agreed to kill an innocent person." >

< "That bastard has become too soft now. I miss the old days when he didn’t care-." >

< "Enough. Let me hear..." >

The ladies did not like talking about their old days.

They were different people compared to what they are right now.

Even before they met and during their early days together, things had always been different.

Life and death were not as important aspects of life as the fulfilment of their desires.

So, they have made some progress towards being a more successful part of society.

Not that it gave them any more happiness or peace than what they used to have. It only added more suffering to their lives.

< "Do you hear this, Sammy?" >

< "Hear what?" >

Beth had stopped Sam from talking about their past and while listening closer to the jumbled mess of audio they were hearing, she heard footsteps.

They were faint at first but they became progressively louder... whoever it was, they were coming closer to him.

In fact, they were coming closer to them.

< "Wake them up." >

Suddenly, a clear voice spoke and the room that was full of messy noises fell silent.

The distinct human groans coming from different people aside from Andrew also turned into loud, ear piercing screams.

< "Arghhhhhhh...!" >

Both of them heard the tens of screaming noises including the one that broke their hearts the most, the one that belonged to their beloved.

It seemed like he had just been subjected to another physical shock, specifically, they seemed to have been electrocuted.

< "Fuck this is crazy... I’m going there. I’m going kill all of them!" >

Sam was utterly furious right now.

< "Yes! Let’s go! How dare they hurt my Drew! I’ll obliterate them!" >

Both of the ladies couldn’t help themselves. They were cursing but they knew better than anyone else how common these things were during their missions.

There was a time when each one of them had almost been killed by the enemy but they knew when to use their power and how to conceal what they shouldn’t expose to the others.

They were torturing their husbands but whoever they are, they will pay for what they are doing right now when this is over.

< "Good morning, ungrateful bastards." >

It was a female voice. It seemed to be someone not too young and not too old.

Sam could tell this was the voice of a female in her early thirties who was about six feet tall and had a medium build.

Beth also processed the voice through their database to see if it was someone from the palace but there was no match.

< "They’re probably using a voice changing device." >

These weren’t common. Normal people couldn’t get their hands on items of any kind in the first place.

They are called items because they have special features that make unique things possible.

And since Beth was the best Creator prodigy, she could tell when any kind of special machine was being used.

< "You sure have been slacking off on the sales huh?" >

The woman spoke again. And from the sound of it, she was talking about the drugs that were being sold inside the palace.

< "I knew it. It’s the drug mafia." >

They had no idea who it was why they were doing this so boldly inside the palace. But whatever the reason may be, they weren’t good people. Which means this situation could turn ugly real soon.

< "Ugh..." >

Andrew was also waking up from his sleep right now. He was still in pain, but he was in a worse situation.

Worrying about pain wasn’t necessary right now. They have to deal with what’s at hand right now: the mafia.

< "Wake up you little pieces of shits." >

< "Arghhhhhh!" >

It seemed like she had just hit someone to force them awake.

Thankfully, it wasn’t Drew.

Also, it was a good thing that Lily wasn’t here right now.

< "..." >

Her comms were on silent mode since she was coming to the palace right now.

If she had heard him scream and if she were here, things would have been complicated.

< "Ugh... Barn... Spot... Code D. Also, you won’t... believe it..." >

He was awake and he was looking around right now.

< "It seems like... the Mayns are... shady as well." >

Something terrible was happening around him.

And, he was right inside the palace so, this was worse than having a missing prince.
