The southern commander pressured the panther relentlessly, punishing the panther for its previous mistake, keeping it pinned and reeling.
Every time the beast tried to twist away, a blade was there to cut off its path, driving it back into the corner, opening fresh wounds across its body.
Whilst the Beast Soul kept the panther at bay, refusing it any chance to retreat, purple lightning gathered on Moon’s palm.
With hungry white eyes, the Raiju stood ready to strike like a thunderbolt from a clear sky.
Moon waited for his opening, and the Beast Soul gave it to him. The commander drove the panther back with a crossing strike that staggered it, exposing its back to him.
Moon did not miss the chance, letting his Raiju charge through the air. In a streak of crackling violet, the Raiju slammed into the panther’s back.
The Shadow Panther’s body froze from the surprise attack. Lightning lashed through its body, seizing its muscles, gnawing at its very soul.
The panther convulsed, and the Beast Soul rushed in to capitalize, both blades carving deep wounds on its neck, chest, arms and legs.
The panther swayed, its burning yellow eyes losing the glint they previously had, moments away from death.
Out of nowhere, a sharp projectile charged through the air and struck the dying beast cleanly through its throat, putting an end to its final struggle.
[You have killed the level 65 A-Rank Shadow Panther]
[You have gained 32,520 Lives]
[You have levelled up!]
"What the..." Moon stared at the projectile stuck the panther’s throat with shock.
Moon’s head turned in shock, finding the Golden Turtle standing a few feet away, its radiant shell now adorned with jagged crystals, one of which it had just launched into the panther to claim the finishing blow.
"You..." Moon stared, then a massive smirk spread across his face. "You stole the kill."
He wasn’t upset in the slightest. If anything, he was delighted. The turtle had read the battle, identified the moment of the panther’s death, and delivered the killing move entirely on its own, without a single command from Moon.
A newborn, displaying such awareness and initiative worthy of its Supreme-Rank.
The Golden Turtle padded slowly toward its fallen victim, utterly unbothered, and began to eat the panther calmly, as though devouring a Surpasser-tier predator was the most trivial thing in the world.
This turtle. I love it even more now.
Moon watched, the spiritual energy from the kill spreading through his channels.

If I don’t find more Epic-rank skills to copy soon, I’ll be forced to fill my thirteenth acupoint with a Rare-ranked skill instead. Moon thought grimly.
Unless he had no other choice, Moon didn’t want to do that. He understood the cost of using a rare-ranked skill as the foundation.
Once a skill’s foundation was woven into an acupoint, removing it later was brutally difficult, and using a lower-ranked skill would lower both his potential and the strength of that acupoint.
He put the thought aside for now.
I’ll have Tom line up more gate exploration roles. That solves two problems at once. More gates means more elite fighters to copy classes from, which means more chances at the Epic skills I need. And it keeps me earning toward a Sacred-Rank spirit art at the same time. Every gate is progress on both fronts.
Moon closed the status screen and lifted his head toward the Shadow Panther’s body, only to find that Mirage had joined the Golden Turtle, and the two of them had already devoured a decent portion of the corpse between them.
He shook his head with a wry smile.
Then he turned his attention to the beasts still attacking the pavilion from every direction, the storm of the turtle’s birth having driven the island’s creatures into a frenzy.
"Take care of them... even at the cost of your own death."
The southern commander obeyed without hesitation, despite how cruel the order sounded when aimed at itself. It moved to stand beside Mirage and the Golden Turtle, positioning itself as a guard, both blades ready, scanning the surroundings for any threat that came near Moon’s precious companions.
As precious as the Southern Commander was to Moon, it was nowhere near as precious as Mirage or the Golden Turtle to him. He wouldn’t hesitate to sacrifice his strongest Beast Soul to keep either of them alive, although, he would prefer if they all stayed alive.
Moon made his way down toward the base of the peak, where the fighting was thickest.
"Help me! I’m going to die, I’ve got no lives left!" An Evolver’s voice cried out, stranded with the weakness of resurrection debuffs, several beasts closing on him where he’d been caught out of position, moments from a death he couldn’t come back from.
Purple streaks flashed through the storm-dark sky and the beasts around the Evolver dropped, cut down before they could land the killing blow. The man stared at the corpses in shock, then his eyes gleamed with relief.
"It’s the boss!"
There was only one person notoriously known through the base for his command over the advanced purple lightning element, and it was their boss.
Moon moved through the horde with ease, beasts falling in his wake with every step, and within ten minutes more than two hundred creatures ranging from one-star to four-star Evolver rank lay dead across the pavilion grounds, his subordinates already moving to collect the corpses and secure the perimeter.
"All hail the boss!"
"All hail the boss!"
The cheers rose across the pavilion as the last of the frenzy broke, the beasts that survived fleeing back into the woods, the crisis passing.
Once the clearing was done, Moon made his way back up to the peak.
Where the Shadow Panther had been, only bones remained, picked completely clean.
"You finished it already," Moon said with a wry smile, his calm eyes settling on the Golden Turtle before they widened in shock.
"You..."
