SSS Awakening: Rebirth of the Strongest Vampire God
Chapter 810: Hit and run
Damon stood on a rocky slope overlooking a vast plain, where deep trenches cut through the earth and broken pillars rose from the sand.
He swept his gaze across the landscape. Some of those trenches continued all the way to the horizon, their edges melted into dark glass. He was beginning to suspect that La Rocha’s description of the god’s training grounds had been a little understated.
At the center of the plain stood a man holding a spear.
He wore loose gray trousers and nothing above the waist, leaving a broad chest covered in pale scars exposed to the wind. His dark hair was tied behind his head, and the weapon in his hands looked almost ordinary, with a wooden shaft and a narrow silver blade.
Damon might have mistaken him for a mortal practicing alone if not for the hunger stirring violently inside his body. There was no doubt about it. This man in front of him was a God!
The man completed a slow thrust, drew the spear back, and turned toward him.
“You can come down.”
Damon paused. His heart rate sped up, and his blood was pumping with excitement. Something told him that this fight was going to be different.
This man was a God, a real God, a God who had ascended through the conventional means, a God who had fought his way to the top and survived everything that came with it. The scars covering his body made that much clearer. Damon doubted someone like this would let him land a free punch just to prove how little it hurt.
Damon shook himself. He did not know what he was thinking. How could he possibly go up against someone like this? Was his mind already muddled? He had always tried to be calm and strategic in his life. But this… this was stupidity.
In front of this man, he did not stand any chance of winning. Not even 1%! He needed to run! He needed to run right now if he wanted to survive!
No. No. No. He needed to devour more. If he only continued to run all the time, then eventually he wouldn’t be fast enough to escape whatever was chasing him. He needed to stand his ground and fight. He needed to push himself.
Running was cowardice.
Fighting was stupidity.
Damon winced as he touched his head. All sorts of thoughts bombarded his head. Was he under some sort of mental attack?
The man in front of him sneered. In the confusion, he opened up a spatial rip for teleporting. It was a superior rank skill he had picked up from the dragon. No matter what was happening, he was in no condition to fight right now. He was no match for this guy.
However, before he could step through, the spear moved.
Damon felt the danger and jerked backward. A silver streak passed inches from his face and struck the spatial opening, tearing through the energy holding it together. The passage folded inward with a violent crack, throwing him down the slope as fragments of broken space sliced through the rocks around him.
He caught himself before hitting the ground, but the thoughts in his head immediately grew louder. He should have moved faster. He shouldn’t have tried to leave. He needed to attack before the next strike, except attacking would get him killed, and now he had wasted his only chance to escape.
Damon bit down hard enough to taste blood. The pain gave him a moment of clarity, just enough to notice that the man below hadn’t moved from his position. His spear was still in his hands, its silver tip angled toward the place where the portal had been.
“You came here to hunt me,” the god said. “At least have the decency to come down.” He had a calm smile on his face.
If Damon was not sure of it before, he was sure of it now. This guy was attacking his mind. More importantly, it looked like he had no plans of letting him leave.
Fuck. Damon gritted his teeth. Did he underestimate Gods too much? Was he too intimidated by the guy? What the hell was La Rocha even thinking when he said that Damon had 70% chance to win? Was his information just outdates?
Damon could no arrive at any conclusion. His mind was simply a jumbled up mess. He couldn’t even tell if this was the other party attacking him or if it was simply his own mind playing tricks thanks to his overpowered bloodline.
The more he thought about it, Damon started panicking more. Was he just about to lose it completely?
Right at this moment, the God in front of him moved. He slowly and casually sent his spear forward. It was just a simple move but to Damon it felt as if his entire world was crumbling. The sheer power behind the spear was simply too much. T
his one move was going to end him. There was no hope against a spear like this. This was the God of death standing in front of him. He simply had no other choice except to die.
Damon gritted his teeth. He did not want to die just yet. He was hungry. He was extremely hungry. He was starving. With this hunger in his soul, he would never be able to die in peace. He…
“Fuck you! I will not die today!” Damon roared. Without thinking anything at all, he reached for his semi-formed origin core and grabbed as much power as he could. He then blasted it all in a single shot. A bright red beam met the spear beam.
The result was catastrophic. The entire world trembled and exploded. Damon used another bulk of origin energy to form a crude barrier around him just to withstand the brunt of the aftermath.
The spear God on the other hand cooly chuckled. The man’s laughter echoed loudly as the two of them once again faced each other. This time in the middle of the space.
The spear God was not in the least intimidated by Damon’s power. It was the opposite. He seemed more revved up than before, ready to battle with everything he got. The collapse and the total destruction of an entire world did not mean anything to him at all. He once again started moving as an enormous amount of power gathered around him.
Fuck! Damon panted. He again started forming a counter attack. He did not have the upperhand here but he was also not going to lose without a proper fight.
However, at the exact moment, a spatial tear appeared. This time it was near the Spear God. From within the tear, something horrendous stepped out.
Damon couldn’t even understand what the thing was. It was a monster or rather an entity he had never faced before. Pure terror and horror creeped inside him when he saw the thing. It was faceless and yet Damon could feel it looking at him.
Its body was long and painfully thin, with arms hanging well below where its knees should have been. Dark folds clung to it, shifting like cloth until one peeled away and Damon realized it was part of the creature itself. Behind it, the spatial tear widened without being touched, its edges bending toward the thing as though space were struggling to accommodate its presence.
He could sense nothing from that thing at all and yet every single one of his senses screamed danger. What the hell was that even?
However, it was not his problem. Whatever it was, its focus right now was mostly on the Spear God. Was this his luck attribute finally in play? Shit, he had no idea. He did not care. He immediately opened up another spatial tear and bolted.
The Spear God’s laughter continued to rang out but this time he did not chase after Damon. Damon managed to successfully get the hell out of there and arrived at an abandoned world not far from there.
Panting out of breath, he immediately went for his bloodline network and started picking out more targets. He needed more power. For that he needed more of his bloodline. He needed…
Right as he was about to teleport, once again the space rippled. Damon froze. What was happening? Did that guy change his mind? Did he manage to defeat the weird monstrosity so soon and now he was back onto him?
But the next second, someone else walked in. It was a different… God? No, A rank.
“You abomination. You dared to injure senior sister-” The guy opened his mouth when Damon shot forward at full speed. He had so much frustration bottled up inside him right now and someone had just arrived begging for attention.
It was time to unleash hell!
