SSS-Rank Awakening: My Infinite Absorption System
Chapter 112: The Weekly Ledger
Morning sunlight brightened the upper staging docks of Facility Zero as porters stacked salvaged supply crates near the loading bays.
A brisk autumn breeze blew across the river canal while exhaust smoke from departing patrol trucks dissipated into the clear sky.
Fin sat upon an overturned cargo container near the loading bay doors, rolling his shoulders to work out the lingering stiffness from the sweep below.
Behind him, the reinforced hatch leading down to Sub-Level Four stood sealed and tagged with bright yellow warning tape.
Orson’s demolition crew began drilling anchor holes along the primary support pillars, preparing to collapse the lower tunnels into bedrock.
Across his chest and shoulders, a deep, comforting warmth spread through his muscle fibers as the internal clock of Day Fifty-Four reached noon.
The scheduled weekly compounding pulse of Predator’s Digestion II resonated through his circulatory channels with steady, quiet force.
His bones felt denser, his tendons coiled like forged springs, and the lingering fatigue from back-to-back vault engagements dissolved completely.
Fin opened his status display, watching the clean bracketed lines align upon the interface without a single fractional digit.

His raw physical attributes settled into whole numbers, locking in one hundred and thirty-six Strength and one hundred and forty-three Agility.
Under Overclock, his effective Agility would explode to four hundred and twenty-nine, granting triple movement velocity during critical maneuvers.
Fin picked up a discarded reinforcing rod from the staging deck, testing his grip as his fingers clamped around the metal.
The dense alloy curled under the effortless pressure of one hundred and thirty-six Strength, bending smoothly into a flattened loop.
He dropped the twisted rod onto the staging deck, listening to the solid clatter echo across the floor.
Reaching into his pocket, Fin withdrew a copper coin, flicking the disc twenty feet straight into the crisp morning air.
With his enhanced Agility of one hundred and forty-three, the spinning coin seemed to float downward in lazy, suspended rotations.
He plucked the coin out of the air between two fingers with casual, pinpoint precision before slipping it back into his pocket.
The steady accumulation of unborrowed, unpledged physical power felt vastly superior to the unstable synthetic grafts Krell forced onto children.
Footsteps echoed along the ramp as Corin climbed toward the loading dock, carrying two metal lockboxes under his arms.
Behind him walked Jolly, her canvas satchel slung across her shoulder and a polished brass ruler tucked neatly into her belt loop.
"Did you walk all the way from Pine Street, squirt?" Fin leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees with a broad grin.
"Bram gave us a ride in the supply van," Jolly adjusted her satchel with a sharp huff as she climbed the final step. "Somebody had to come and catalog the seized assets before the demolition crew blew the foundation."
"You never let a single credit slip past your ledger," Fin tapped the wooden edge of the crate beside him with his knuckles.
"Careless bookkeeping is how families lose their homes," Jolly retorted, setting her ledger onto the crate with a decisive thud. "Corin, set the lockboxes right here beside the ink bottle."
"Right where you want them, little boss," Corin set the metal cases down with exaggerated care, wiping sweat from his bearded chin. "These came straight out of Krell’s private wall vault in the director suite."
"Did Maya check the mechanical tumblers for contact poisons?" Fin tapped the polished brass clasps with his fingertip.
"Maya ran diagnostic scans across both lids," Corin unhooked the clasps with a confident flick of his thumb. "Both locks are completely clean and disarmed."
Jolly pulled a pair of thin cotton inspection gloves from her pocket, slipping them over her fingers with brisk efficiency.
She lifted the latches on the first container, revealing three molded foam compartments lined with velvet inserts.
Inside lay three military-grade automated injectors, each fitted with pressurized glass ampoules and precision dosage dials.
"Three Grade-A surgical injectors," Jolly lifted one of the instruments, admiring the calibrated glass chamber. "The clinic in District Four has been trying to purchase one of these for eighteen months."
"Each unit is worth at least five thousand credits on the open market," Corin rubbed his palms together, looking impressed by the fine craft.
"We are not selling them," Fin stated firmly, crossing his arms over his chest. "Those stay with nurse Marta at the Pine Street shelter."
"Forty-eight children need daily vitamin calibration, and these injectors eliminate human dosing error," Jolly scribbled a rapid notation into her ledger. "Already marked for municipal shelter use."
"Now open the second container," Fin pointed toward the larger case resting by Jolly’s elbow.
Corin popped the brass clasp of the larger box, lifting the lid to reveal neatly stacked bundles of crisp parchment certificates.
Each certificate bore the embossed municipal watermark of District Two and the red wax seal of the regional commercial exchange.
"Unmarked municipal bearer bonds," Jolly touched the textured edges of the top sheaf, her eyes widening with genuine delight. "Denominations of one thousand credits each."
"Count them twice to make sure Krell did not hide dummy sheets in the middle," Fin advised, watching her gloved fingers count through the stacks.
"One, two, three... ten, twenty, thirty... exactly forty bundles," Jolly announced, her voice brimming with triumphant satisfaction. "Forty thousand credits in transferable municipal debt."
"That funds our shelter operations for eight full months," Corin beamed, clapping his calloused hands together with enthusiasm.
"Every single bond goes straight into the Halden House reserve fund," Jolly stamped the ledger page with her official guild seal. "We are solvent, debt-free, and legally fortified."
Footsteps sounded on the loading ramp as Bram arrived, accompanied by Darek wearing a clean oversized wool sweater and trousers.
Darek looked around the sunlit staging deck with hesitant eyes, his bare throat still wrapped in sterile white medical gauze.
"Look who finally ate a full bowl of beef stew," Bram nudged Darek with his elbow, grinning broadly under his thick mustache.
"The clinic nurses made me drink three cups of herbal tea," Darek looked down at his clean clothes with awkward shyness, tugging at the cuffs.
"You look like a human being again," Fin stood up from the crate, tossing Darek a fresh green apple from the provisions box. "Catch."
Darek caught the fruit out of the air with swift reflex, his scarred fingers curling securely around the skin.
"Thanks, Fin," Darek took a crisp bite of the fruit, a faint smile breaking through his guarded expression as color returned to his cheeks. "The children at Pine Street are all awake and drinking warm milk."
"That is the best news we received all morning," Fin nodded with deep satisfaction, gesturing for Darek to sit beside them in the sunshine.
"Orson has the shaped charges set on the lower foundations," Bram reported, leaning against the timber doorframe with folded arms. "Once we load the last truck, we trigger the collapse and bury Facility Zero under two hundred feet of solid limestone."
"Let it burn into dust," Darek murmured, watching the dark entrance of Conduit Nine with quiet, resolute eyes. "Nothing good was ever built inside those tunnels."
"We build what comes next on the surface," Fin looked out across the river canal, feeling the steady thrum of one hundred and thirty-six Strength pulsing beneath his skin.
The sun climbed toward its afternoon zenith over Jonxy, illuminating the distant chimneys of District Four with golden clarity.
