Dawn arrived over the outer bay without sunlight, dragging a veil of sulfurous purple smoke across the eastern horizon.

At Breakwater Post Four in Sector Alpha, the cold morning air carried the unmistakable metallic tang of ionized ozone and receding ocean water.

During the final hours of darkness, the scheduled compounding of Predator’s Digestion II had settled deep into Fin’s sinews, completing the Day Forty-Seven cycle.

The steady internal influx had clicked into place with absolute biological precision, bumping his physical attributes by another solid increment without an unearned kill.

His Level remained immovable at one, anchored against false inflation while his progression pool rested at twenty-five million two hundred thousand experience points.

Stepping up to the reinforced parapet, Fin leaned forward against the cold stone, surveying the catastrophe unfolding across the coastline.

The Pacific ocean had retreated over two full miles toward the continental shelf, exposing vast expanses of grey sludge, barnacle-encrusted reefs, and ancient wooden shipwrecks.

Miles out past the outer shoals, the true Pacific SS breach host boiled against the continental shelf beneath towering columns of emerald lightning.

International heavy battleships and sponsored capital strike divisions were exchanging apocalyptic artillery barrages with mountain-sized leviathans that blotted out the sunrise.

That titanic offshore war remained entirely beyond the mortal combat scale of a C-rank strike team, functioning as a distant planetary tremor that rattled the seabed.

"The tide pulled back faster than the naval bureau predicted," Ruby said, stepping up beside him with her heavy tower shield strapped across her left arm.

"Maya, confirm our retreat avenues," Fin called down toward the reinforced radio bunker beneath the gun platform.

"The primary egress route runs straight through Trench Seven back to the Pine Street conduit," Maya answered over the wireless headset, "and Bram has two armored haulers idling behind the second gate."

"Colonel Mercer has battery spotters zeroed on our mudflats," Nila added, adjusting the quick-release clips on her dueling harness, "so if we get overrun, forty tons of high explosive will carpet the sand behind us."

"We will not need the carpet bombardment," Fin said, checking the edge of his hatchet while his boots gripped the damp masonry.

Across the vast expanse of exposed seabed, a deep subterranean tremor shook the mud, sending geysers of brackish water thirty feet into the air.

Out of the deep tidal trench crawled the advance vanguard of the breach, led by a hulking C-grade horror known as the Stillwater Colossus.

The beast stretched fifty feet across, armored in thick slate-grey chitin that resembled petrified river stone, propelled by eight jointed legs that churned the wet silt into foam.

Four crushing hydraulic pincers clicked rhythmically beneath its armored mantle, dripping concentrated digestive acid that hissed violently against the mud.

Behind the colossus scurried dozens of jagged reef-crawlers, screeching as they caught the scent of warm mammalian blood waiting along the seawall.

"Spotters have target lock," Maya announced from the bunker, her voice crisp over the static, "artillery inbound in three seconds."

High above the southern bluffs, the heavy batteries of Fort Mercer detonated in a synchronized roll of rolling thunder that hammered the eardrums.

Six massive six-hundred-pound naval shells shrieked across the grey sky, plunging directly into the center of the advance swarm with shattering concussive fury.

Geysers of shredded rock and boiling silt erupted across the flats, obliterating forty reef-crawlers in an instant and throwing the colossus onto its side.

The behemoth roared with visceral fury, righting its massive bulk and accelerating through the smoking craters directly toward Breakwater Post Four.

"It survived the direct concussive blast," Ruby warned, planting her metal-shod boots into the rampart, "brace for perimeter impact!"

Fin did not waste a single point of stamina on an impulsive Overclock sprint, choosing instead to trust his foundation and natural agility.

Vaulting over the low granite breastwork, he dropped twelve feet into the wet sand, using Depth Hydro-Locomotion to glide effortlessly across the sticky silt.

The colossus lunged forward with terrifying speed, snapping its primary left claw in a horizontal sweep designed to bisect a tenement wall.

Ruby dropped into position behind her heavy tower shield, activating Earth-Reinforcement just as the massive pincer slammed into her defensive perimeter.

The concussive shockwave rang through the stone foundations like a tolling church bell, yet Ruby held her ground with gritted teeth and immovable posture.

"Now, Nila," Ruby barked through the flying sand, "take the secondary tendon!"

Nila darted across the muddy channel like a silver phantom, driving two hardened tungsten pins directly into the articulated pivot behind the claw.

The creature shrieked as its limb locked rigid, its balance shifting violently as green hemolymph spurted from the ruptured tendon sheath.

Fin recognized the exact opening they had drilled for three long weeks beneath Maya’s watchful eye.

Tapping his mana pool for ten points, he activated Spatial Warp Slip without hesitation.

A sharp distortion folded the humid sea air around him, displacing his entire frame through empty space onto the slippery dorsal shell of the behemoth.

Landing smoothly above the primary nerve junction, Fin brought the heavy reverse spike of his hatchet down with all one hundred and twenty-three points of raw Strength.

The reinforced carbon spike punctured straight through the petrified chitin layer, biting deep into the pulsing central brainstem with a sickening crunch of shattered bone.

The monster spasmed violently, its massive legs buckling into the mud while its remaining pincers thrashed blindly against the air.

Fin twisted the haft with deliberate leverage, fracturing the internal cranial vault before leaping clear of the collapsing bulk.

The Stillwater Colossus collapsed into the wet silt with an enormous thud, sending a wave of brackish water washing against the base of the seawall.

Around them, the remaining reef-crawlers scattered into the mudflats, terrified by the sudden demise of their apex pack leader.

Fin stood in the foaming shallows, his chest rising and falling in steady rhythm, his stamina gauge sitting securely at eighty-five percent.

A chime echoed across his peripheral vision as the municipal defense grid registered the kill through Maya’s encrypted telemetry link.

"That was remarkably disciplined," Ruby called down from the parapet, lowering her tower shield with an exhausted yet genuine grin.

"I promised you I would not burn out on the first wave," Fin replied, wiping black ichor from his hatchet blade with a bundle of dried sea grass.

"Good thing too," Nila said, vaulting back up onto the granite walkway, "because Fort Mercer just broadcast another warning across the command network."

"What is coming next?" Fin asked, climbing the iron ladder back to the safety of Post Four.

"Maya says the secondary wave is moving in from the deep channel," Ruby answered, her expression turning grim as she pointed toward the horizon, "and they have heavy transport hulls trailing right behind them."

Out across the drying mud, beneath the apocalyptic rumble of the distant offshore fleet, dark iron shapes were beginning to emerge from the receding sea.

The first battle for Jonxy had been won without a single casualty, but the full weight of the forty-seventh day was only beginning to break.
