A wall of black seawater forty feet high was roaring out of the deep ocean, racing across the submerged flats toward the seawall.

Deprived of its acoustic harvest anchors, the titanic SS leviathan offshore had unleashed an unbridled surge of abyssal mana, driving the oceanic counter-tide like a battering ram.

Out on the exposed reef pylon eight hundred yards past the revetment, the local dimensional relay was vibrating with blinding arcs of emerald lightning.

The rogue relay had formed an artificial feedback conduit between the oceanic breach and the mainland, drawing the verge of the rift straight toward the city.

"If that pylon holds its lock, the surge will breach the parapet and drown District Four," Maya shouted over the howling gale, her monitors flashing warning runes.

"Colonel Mercer, we need continuous suppressive fire along the outer reef line," Fin called into the comm-link, pulling the cryptographic override key from his storage space.

"Naval batteries are already firing for effect, Marshal," Colonel Mercer’s voice boomed through the static, "you have twelve seconds before the outer catwalk collapses."

High on the southern bluffs, the heavy coastal guns of Fort Mercer opened up in a deafening cadence of sustained fury, dropping explosive ordnance across the crashing breakers.

Ruby planted her tower shield into the seawall revetment, anchoring the base line alongside Nila while machine-gun crews raked the incoming trench-crawlers.

"Go, Fin," Ruby urged, her eyes fixed on the towering wall of water, "we will hold the revetment gate until you return!"

"Keep your shields locked and do not let the spray blind your sightlines," Fin told them, checking the balance of his hatchet in his right palm.

"We have stood in worse water than this, so do not look back until that crystal is dead," Nila answered, her twin blades humming as she deflected a spray of razor-sharp shale.

Fin did not waste a heartbeat, activating Overclock as he vaulted over the parapet into the teeth of the incoming storm.

The world slowed to a crawl of suspended water droplets and crawling arcs of emerald plasma as three hundred and ninety points of effective Agility surged through his limbs.

Sprinting across the narrow, buckling iron catwalk that linked the seawall to the reef pylon, Fin moved with blinding speed, outpacing the collapsing floor plates beneath his heels.

A jagged abyssal eel lunged from the churning foam with gaping jaws, but Fin ducked beneath the strike without breaking stride, driving his dagger through its eye socket as he passed.

Two scuttling trench-carvers scrambled onto the salt-crusted railing ahead, their barbed limbs snapping toward his knees.

Fin swept his boot forward in a low sliding arc, shattering their chitinous leg joints and pitching both beasts into the surging froth below.

The shuddering iron structure groaned under the immense hydraulic force of the swell, sheared bolts whistling like shrapnel into the churning white water.

Ten yards from the shuddering concrete housing of the pylon, the iron walkway sheared away completely, plunging into the frothing breakers.

Fin tapped his mana pool for ten points, activating Spatial Warp Slip without hesitation.

Space folded smoothly around his frame, carrying him across the open chasm onto the vibration-riddled platform of the relay tower.

Massive copper coils were spinning inside the open generator bay, crackling with green dimensional energy that pulled at the fabric of the sky.

Fin did not attempt to absorb the wild dimensional plasma, knowing that mortal flesh could not endure an unrefined planar current.

Instead, he jammed the cryptographic override key directly into the primary receiver slot, forcing the corporate security protocols to disengage.

The heavy cylinder locked into the brass interface with a mechanical snap, and the auxiliary warning dials immediately swung from crimson to flashing amber.

The spinning copper coils shuddered violently, their internal magnetic containment fields dropping and exposing the central crystalline feedback capacitor.

With all one hundred and twenty-three points of Strength behind his swing, Fin brought the heavy reverse spike of his hatchet down onto the exposed crystal core.

The tempered carbon spike struck the resonant center of the capacitor with shattering impact, driving a web of structural fractures through the pulsing matrix.

A deafening crack like thunder split the air as the central capacitor detonated, discharging forty thousand volts of raw mana safely into the ocean bedrock below.

The spinning coils seized with a shriek of twisted metal, their emerald glow dying instantly as the local feedback loop collapsed.

Without the pylon’s anchor to guide it, the towering forty-foot surge lost its unnatural planar acceleration, collapsing into an ordinary tidal swell against the breakwater.

Miles out past the continental shelf, the mountain-sized SS leviathan let out an ear-splitting bellow, held at bay by international battle cruisers as the offshore gate stabilized into a permanent rift known as the Verge.

Fin stood on the smoking platform of the pylon, breathing heavily as the eight-second Overclock burst expired, leaving his stamina gauge sitting at a manageable sixty percent.

A resonant hum sounded through the core of his consciousness as the System evaluated his demonstrated output under catastrophic environmental load.

His Level remained immovable at one, his soul density untouched at Pulse ten, but his operational threshold had crossed decisively into the high-district tier.

Fin slid down the maintenance ladder into the low-water channel, wading through the receding foam back toward the safety of Breakwater Post Four.

Ruby and Nila met him at the base of the access ramp, their armor splattered with brine and spent propellant, but their eyes shining with relief.

"You severed the connection," Ruby said, stepping forward to clasp his forearm with a firm, leather-clad grip.

"The local pylon is scrap iron," Fin replied, wiping salt spray from his forehead, "and the surge broke against the stone without entering the avenues."

"Fort Mercer reports that the international fleet has anchored the offshore perimeter," Maya said over the radio, her voice trembling with hard-won triumph, "the emergency siren protocol is officially downgraded to yellow."

"The relay telemetry is zeroed out on all naval frequencies," Colonel Mercer’s voice cut in over the command channel, "medical transports are already arriving at the lower revetment to process the wounded."

"Tell the transport captains to prioritize the front-line militia detachments," Fin said into the transmitter, glancing toward the line of stretcher bearers moving along the wet stone.

"Understood, Marshal," Mercer answered, his tone carrying the deep gravity of an old soldier who had seen too many coastal garrisons fall, "the city owes its eastern flank to your vanguard."

"We held the line," Nila murmured, leaning her back against the granite revetment with a breathless laugh.

"We held the seawall," Fin agreed, looking back toward the distant purple clouds of the stabilized Verge, "now let us go home to District Four and count our people."
