SSS Rank Awakening: The World Beyond Redemption
Chapter 1: No class
Volume 1: First step
"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts." - Winston Churchill

Rael Blackthorn woke while the sky over the eastern ranges still held the last thin edge of night. The climate regulators in his chambers hummed at their usual low pitch, keeping the air cool and dry. He dressed in the formal academy uniform without ceremony, the dark fabric marked only by the silver thread of the Blackthorn crest.
Outside the tall windows the capital of the Kingdom of Solaria stretched across the surface of Titan in layered districts that rose for kilometers. The planet earned its name through sheer scale. Continents the size of old worlds, oceans that demanded weeks of travel even by the fastest craft, cities that never truly ended. The ducal palace occupied an elevated plateau on the capital’s eastern flank, its walls formed of adaptive alloys and its gardens tended by machines that worked without rest. Rael had lived inside these walls all his life, yet he had never treated them as a place of idle privilege.
He was the son of one of Solaria’s most powerful dukes, the Blackthorn Family. From the earliest years he had refused the path of the ordinary royal brat. While other young nobles wasted their time on status contests and empty displays, Rael studied. At eleven he had already finished the advanced theoretical courses that most students reached only in their final academy years. Once he saw something, he never forgot it. Formulas, combat sequences, historical records of past awakenings—everything stayed sharp in his mind. That gift, combined with the Blackthorn bloodline, had made him the top student of his generation. His older brothers and sisters had all received overpowered classes. His parents stood among the strongest awakeners of the last half-century. Rael expected the same for himself. He had trained for it every day.
The Awakening Ceremony marked the end of childhood on Titan. At sixteen a person was considered an adult. The government and the great houses of Solaria had long since decided there was no point in forcing the young to spend their strongest years buried in classrooms. Education finished early. After the ceremony those who awakened focused entirely on growing their power and preparing for what came next. Those who failed settled into ordinary lives of manual labor or administrative work. Rael, born to a ducal house, had never spent much thought on them.
The Dream Realm waited for every successful awakener. One month after the ceremony the body of a newly empowered person began transferring each night into another place. There they had to survive, gather strength, and eventually find one of the dimensional gates that returned them to Titan. No one knew why the process existed, but even then it happened to every single human. The royal family and the high houses prepared their children from a young age precisely because of it. Bloodline, early exposure to dense mana environments, and rigorous training all improved the odds of a strong result. Rael walked the long corridor toward the private transit bay with that certainty settled firmly in his chest.
He headed for his car—a sleek white flyer with black strips that looked like it belonged in the upper atmosphere rather than on the ground. The driver punched in the destination without a word. University of Solaria.
The campus sat near the heart of the capital, a sprawl of white-stone halls and open plazas big enough to swallow entire districts of lesser cities. The main auditorium already held thousands. Powerful families packed the elevated galleries and the front rows. Ducal banners hung beside the royal crest of Solaria. Representatives from the major houses sat in ordered blocks, a quiet reminder that hierarchy still ruled even in an age of orbital stations and planetary engineering. Students from lesser families and the general population filled the wider seats behind them. The air carried the faint ozone scent of active shielding fields and the low murmur of expectation.
Rael took his place among the candidates of noble blood. One by one the names were called.
Susan Strom stepped onto the central stage and set her hand against the Awakening Stone. Light flared. Stormcaller. Applause rose and settled. Harry Ophid followed and received Serpentmaster. Percy gained Tidecaller. The results continued in a steady rhythm of moderate talent and quiet acceptance. Then the higher houses began to appear.
"Adrian Gale, come to the stage."
Adrian Gale of the rival ducal line walked forward with the easy arrogance Rael had always disliked. The stone pulsed hard. Lightning Swordsman. An S-rank skill. The auditorium erupted. Even Rael brought his hands together once, the sound sharp and brief. Power deserved recognition, whatever its source.
"Bianca Solaria, Your Highness, please come to the stage."
Princess Bianca Solaria rose next. Conversations died across the chamber. She was widely regarded as the most beautiful young woman in the country, and Rael had never been able to look at her without a quiet, private pull of attention. She moved with calm certainty, the daughter of the royal house, and placed her palm against the stone. For a moment nothing happened. Then the light that burst outward was gold and fierce, filling the entire auditorium. Sunforged. An SS-rank class. One in a century. The cheers shook the seating tiers. Rael felt his pulse quicken. If a skill of that magnitude could appear here, then his own result would not disappoint.
"Rael Blackthorn, please come on stage."
His name was called.
Every eye turned. He was the top student of the university, the Blackthorn heir, the one many had already spoken of with certainty. He walked the length of the aisle without rushing, climbed the steps, and stood before the stone. The surface was cool and faintly luminous. He placed his hand flat against it.
Silence stretched.
The light that should have answered did not come. The stone remained dull. A soft mechanical voice spoke from the overhead speakers, clear enough for every powerful family and every ordinary student in the chamber to hear.
"No class detected."
Rael stared at the inert surface. The words hung in the air like a physical weight. Somewhere behind him someone gasped. The first scattered murmurs began to rise.
He pulled his hand back and said, very quietly, "What the fu—"
A second attempt was allowed. Protocol. He knew that. Everyone knew that. He set his palm against the stone again, harder this time, as if pressure alone could force an answer. The stone remained silent. The mechanical voice repeated itself, colder now, almost bored.
"No class detected."
