SSS-Rank Blessing: I Can Copy Abilities
Chapter 55: Abigail’s Secret
Abigail couldn’t help but stare at Caelan. She had encountered plenty of people throughout her life, from ordinary servants to powerful nobles, but this was the first time she had experienced something like this.
It was as if there was some kind of invisible barrier preventing her from looking into his mind.
How strange...
She tried once more, concentrating a little harder this time. However, the result remained the same. No matter how much she focused, she couldn’t hear a single thought from him.
Is he somehow blocking my ability?
Abigail quickly dismissed the thought. As far as she knew, nobody outside her family was even aware that she possessed such an ability. Besides, the man in front of her didn’t seem to be doing anything unusual either.
In fact, Caelan was currently having an entirely different problem.
Man, why is she staring at me like that?
He had been waiting for an opportunity to offer his assistance, but Abigail suddenly fell quiet after he asked her a question.
Did I say something weird? Caelan glanced down at his feet before looking back at her.
"Um, Miss Abigail?"
"Ah!" Abigail immediately snapped out of her thoughts when she heard her name being called. "Y-Yes?"
"Is there something wrong?"
"Uhm... nope, nothing at all." She quickly shook her head before offering him an apologetic smile. "I’m sorry. I was just thinking about something."
"Oh, I see." Caelan nodded, although he was still a little confused.
Well, whatever. He decided not to think too much about it. After all, he already accomplished the most difficult part of his plan. Now he just needed to make sure they didn’t part ways immediately.
"Anyway, were you two heading somewhere?" he smoothly asked before glancing toward their carriage.
"Yes. We were on our way to the temple," Abigail answered honestly.
"Oh? The temple?" Caelan pretended to look surprised, even though he knew about it already.
"That’s quite a coincidence. I was actually planning to visit that area myself."
Hehe that’s smooth. Caelan was proud of himself.
"Really?"
"Yeah! Although I’m not particularly familiar with this part of the capital."
That wasn’t entirely a lie. He only managed to arrive here because Theo guided him through the Night’s shortcuts. Now that he was alone, he actually didn’t know where to go now.
"I see..." Abigail nodded thoughtfully.
"Anyway, considering what just happened, it might be dangerous for you to continue traveling alone." Caelan glanced toward the road where the bandits had disappeared. "If you don’t mind, I could accompany you until you reach the temple."
"Really, sir?!" The maid’s eyes immediately brightened. She was the happiest out of everyone. After all, not only was she scared for her own life, but her lady too.
"Of course."
"Oh, that would be wonderful!" She turned toward Abigail excitedly. "My lady, perhaps we should accept his offer! What if those bandits come back with more people?"
"Hmm..." Abigail looked at Caelan again, carefully observing his expression.
Could all of this really be a coincidence? Abigail wasn’t entirely convinced. However, she also couldn’t deny that he helped them this time.
And aside from that, she was also very curious about him.
"That would be lovely, Sir Caelan," she finally answered with a gentle smile on her face. "If it isn’t too much trouble, we would be grateful for your company."
Yes! Caelan’s eyes immediately brightened. This plan of his really worked, so he was happy.
"Not at all. I’d be happy to help."
Of course, he made sure not to show his excitement.
"Thank you." Abigail smiled before turning toward her maid.
"Shall we get going, then?"
"Of course, my lady!"
The maid immediately hurried toward the carriage to inform the driver that they would be continuing their journey.
Meanwhile, Abigail remained standing beside Caelan.
"Sir Caelan, would you like to ride with us?" she suddenly asked him.
"Hm?" Caelan was surprised to hear that. He originally planned to just walk after them.
"Are you sure? I wouldn’t want to inconvenience you."
"Not at all. There should be enough room for another person." Abigail smiled. "Besides, I would feel rather uncomfortable making the person who saved us walk all the way to the temple."
"Well, if you insist..." Caelan scratched his cheek before nodding. "Then I’ll gladly accept."
At this rate, completing his mission might actually be easier than he thought.
As the maid prepared to help Abigail back inside, Caelan briefly glanced toward one of the nearby alleys. There he saw Theo standing there, watching everything from a distance.
Their eyes met for a moment. Caelan discreetly gave him a nod. Theo immediately understood the gesture and bowed his head slightly before disappearing completely.
Caelan turned back toward the carriage just as Abigail called out to him.
"Sir Caelan?"
"Coming!"
He quickly approached and climbed inside after the two women. A few moments later, the carriage began moving again.
Abigail sat across from him, quietly observing the young man who had just saved them. She originally intended to visit the temple, offer her prayers, and return home without attracting any attention.
But now, for the first time in her life, she found someone who genuinely piqued her interest. That was already a rare thing. And with it, she had no intention of letting such an interesting person disappear without learning more about him.
Meanwhile, Caelan was sitting comfortably across from her, completely unaware of what she was thinking.
In his mind, everything was going exactly according to his plan. And now, all that was left was to get closer to her and gather the information he needed to complete his mission.
However, what Caelan didn’t know was that the young lady sitting across from him was far from the ordinary noblewoman he imagined her to be.
Because behind her gentle smile and seemingly fragile appearance was someone who possessed an ability that even he was unaware of. And while he was busy congratulating himself on how smoothly his plan had gone, Abigail was already beginning to take an unusual interest in him.
