Chapter 51: Unformed Pet Egg!
The Grey-Robed Man held up one finger.
"But High Command is different."
"For dungeons of the same level, High Command controls a far greater number."
"The quality is higher, the difficulty is more extreme, and the rewards are far better."
"Within High Command, a single run through a top-tier dungeon of the same level can yield more than ten times the experience and rewards of an ordinary dungeon."
Over ten times.
Nathaniel Beaumont’s expression finally changed.
The Grey-Robed Man continued.
"Furthermore, although High Command is responsible for protecting the Aurelian Alliance, that doesn’t mean you’ll be locked inside a base doing missions every day."
"Quite the opposite."
"We need powerhouses who can grow, not ornaments kept in a greenhouse."
"Therefore, High Command members have plenty of opportunities to enter the front lines and even the Rift Battlefield."
"If you want to find your parents, High Command is actually the fastest path to gaining access to those places."
The Man in Black spoke next.
"At the same time, High Command members enjoy a considerable degree of freedom."
"As long as you don’t violate High Command’s rules, commit treason, collude with hostile races, or leak confidential information, you will have plenty of time to arrange as you see fit."
Nathaniel was truly tempted.
High Command would not hinder his search for his parents.
Instead, it could provide him with resources to level up faster, access to higher-level dungeons, and more opportunities to reach the front lines.
This did not conflict with his goals.
It aligned perfectly with them.
However, Nathaniel quickly thought of something else.
"So, if I join High Command, is there a welcome gift?"
The Grey-Robed Man was stunned.
Even the Man in Black fell silent for a moment.
The hall went quiet.
The next second, the Grey-Robed Man burst into laughter.
"Hahaha!"
"This kid actually knows how to bargain!"
The Man in Black looked at Nathaniel, his expression becoming somewhat strange.
"Do you know how most people would react if they were given the chance to join High Command?"
Nathaniel answered calmly.
"I don’t know."
"But if one of the Five Great Academies came to recruit me, they would probably offer generous treatment."
"Since High Command stands above the Five Great Academies, the treatment shouldn’t be worse than theirs, right?"
The Grey-Robed Man laughed even harder.
"That makes sense."
"It makes perfect sense."
"Professionals should fight for what they need."
"You fight for resources, fight for opportunities, and fight for better treatment."
"If you don’t fight for them, why would anyone hand good things to you?"
He looked at the Man in Black.
"I appreciate this kid even more now."
The Man in Black did not respond.
He simply raised his hand.
An egg the size of a fist appeared in his palm.
The egg was grayish-white and looked completely ordinary.
But upon closer inspection, extremely fine patterns covered its shell.
Those patterns seemed alive.
At times, they resembled flames.
At times, they flashed like lightning.
And at times, they twisted into dark, shifting shapes that vanished before Nathaniel could study them.
Nathaniel only needed one glance to know that this thing was far from ordinary.
The Man in Black spoke.
"An unformed pet egg."
"Plus three skill points."
Nathaniel’s breath caught.
Skill points!
He had cleared countless dungeons and killed who knew how many monsters, yet he had never seen even a single skill point.
This kind of resource was far more valuable than equipment, materials, or gold coins.
His skills were already powerful.
Any improvement to one of them could bring about a major change.
The Grey-Robed Man watched Nathaniel’s reaction and smiled.
"It seems you understand the value of skill points."
"Then we won’t waste time explaining."
"As for this unformed pet egg..."
Nathaniel looked at the egg.
The Man in Black continued.
"For ordinary pet eggs, you can usually determine the species and potential before they hatch."
"A fire-type pet remains a fire-type pet. A beast-type pet remains a beast-type pet."
"But an unformed pet egg is different."
"It has no fixed form."
"It will evolve into the creature most compatible with its owner based on the owner’s class, attributes, aura, and power system."
"Each unformed pet egg also has different incubation conditions."
"Some require volcanic lava. Some require deep-sea cold crystals. Others require long-term nourishment from special class energy."
"Simply put, this thing has an extremely high ceiling."
"What hatches from the egg depends entirely on its owner."
"If the owner’s class is ordinary, it may evolve into an ordinary pet."
"But if the owner possesses a unique hidden class..."
The Grey-Robed Man did not finish his sentence.
The meaning, however, was obvious.
Nathaniel’s heartbeat quickened slightly.
A pet.
This was completely different from his Shadow Soldiers.
Shadow Soldiers were summons created through his power. Even if one was destroyed, it could be summoned again as long as Nathaniel had the strength and energy to maintain his army.
A pet was different.
It was a long-term combat partner that could grow, be nurtured, and evolve alongside its owner.
A high-potential pet could provide enormous help to a professional.
The Man in Black handed the pet egg to Nathaniel.
"Are these conditions enough?"
Nathaniel took the pet egg.
The moment his fingers touched it, he felt the eggshell vibrate slightly.
It was as if the life inside had sensed his aura.
Nathaniel did not hesitate any longer.
"I will join High Command."
The Man in Black nodded.
"A wise choice."
Nathaniel put away the pet egg, then asked again.
"What about the skill points?"
The Man in Black glanced at him.
"Don’t worry. You won’t be shortchanged."
He raised his hand.
Three pale golden rays flew from his fingertips and entered Nathaniel’s body.
The next second, a notification appeared before Nathaniel’s eyes.
[You have obtained Free Skill Point × 3]
It really arrived.
Nathaniel was shocked.
Was this the level of High Command’s resources?
Three skill points, given away just like that.
An unformed pet egg, handed over without hesitation.
Either of these items would be enough to make countless professionals in Westmere fight desperately for them.
High Command’s foundation was even more terrifying than he had imagined.
However, Nathaniel quickly thought of Westmere again.
He looked at the Man in Black.
"After I join High Command, I’ll probably leave Westmere, right?"
The Man in Black nodded.
"After one day, I will take you away."
Nathaniel asked,
"What about Westmere?"
The Grey-Robed Man raised an eyebrow.
"Are you worried that Westmere will have no one to guard it?"
The Man in Black gave a faint smile.
"For the hometowns of exceptional talents, the Aurelian Alliance has its own protective measures."
"You don’t need to remind us of that."
Nathaniel was slightly taken aback.
The Man in Black continued.
"I will arrange for a Level 400 professional to be transferred here."
"Until further notice, that person will serve as Westmere’s new Pillar and guard the city."
Nathaniel’s pupils shrank sharply.
A Pillar-level powerhouse, someone almost unreachable in the eyes of countless people in Westmere, could be deployed by High Command with such ease.
"Thank you."
Nathaniel spoke sincerely.
This thanks was not for himself.
It was for Westmere.
And for the Beaumont Trading Consortium his parents had left behind.
The Man in Black shook his head.
"No need."
"This is an arrangement High Command should make."
The Grey-Robed Man looked toward him.
"Are you still going to check on the situation in the nearby cities?"
The Man in Black nodded.
"I need to take a look."
Nathaniel looked at the two of them.
The Grey-Robed Man smiled.
"There’s a small problem in a nearby city."
"You don’t need to worry about it."
"Your task now is to handle your personal affairs."
The Man in Black looked at Nathaniel.
"I’ll give you one day."
"Handle everything you need to take care of."
"After one day, I will come to pick you up."
Nathaniel nodded.
"Okay."
The Man in Black raised his hand.
Space inside the hall fluctuated slightly.
The next second, the two figures vanished into thin air.
At the same time, the frozen time began to flow again.
The dust in the air continued to drift downward.
Uncle George finally completed the movement of lowering his head.
The expressions of the department heads and executives returned to normal.
None of them noticed anything unusual.
It was as if the conversation that had just taken place had never happened.
Only Nathaniel stood before the main seat, his hand slightly clenched.
Inside his storage space, the unformed pet egg lay quietly.
And on his interface, three additional free skill points had appeared.
