SSS-Rank Lord Supreme: The Ultimate Devourer
Chapter 28: The Summon
Neo swallowed one special resource after another in the new room he rented.
He hadn’t gone back to join the team.
He needed the peace and quiet, one that came from being alone.
The team also needed the space.
His wanted them to get used to his absence.
It was something that would become permanent. Anytime now.
He settled into a relaxed position and meditated.
As he meditated, his mind settled into a tranquil state.
His heart became calm as stillwater.
His whole being free of all worries. Untouched by all troubles.
Like a carefree immortal.
He was knocked out of this wonderful state by the vibration from his Adventurer Card.
He looked at the card. It glowed red.
Blinking fast, and vibrating.
This had never happened before.
The only change in color the thing ever had was when he turned it golden just a while back.
He picked it up.
It stopped vibrating, and the blinking red light disappeared.
The card returned to its normal state.
Then with no warning, a line of words appeared on the card.
It was the same way his information was always displayed.
He read it.
It was a summon for every F-Rank adventurer who saw the message.
They were to go to the Adventurer Guild in the Immortal Fort nearest to them.
As soon as possible.
It seemed the summons Raela mentioned earlier had arrived.
*
The first thing Neo did was to go back to the inn the team was at.
The place wasn’t too far from where he was, and was on the way to the Adventurer Guild building.
When he neared the place.
Neo saw them.
They were outside the inn.
Everyone of them prepared for the sudden summon.
"This type of summon from the Adventurer Guild is very rare. The ones I have witnessed before was always limited to a small area."
Lancelot was explaining this to the others when Neo joined them.
The man was a seasoned adventurer, and even he was baffled by this global summon of the Adventurer Guild.
"This is the first time you are witnessing something like this?"
Everyone became quiet when Neo asked that question.
They turned to look at him.
But they weren’t as unperturbed as they looked.
They hadn’t had enough time to deal with Neo’s new status as a bloodline bearer.
"Yes." Lancelot broke the awkward silence.
"It is always for missions that do not involve the true outlands. Like the clearing of some really powerful bandit groups. Or sometimes, when warring kingdoms pay the Adventurer Guild enough to help them recruit warriors."
Bandits? Wars?
He understood the words. He just found them alien.
Did such things not happen in the Immortal World up there?
They happened. They were just more elegant.
Neo realized something now. He had been too focused on adventuring and cultivation.
He knew almost nothing about the normal life of the people here.
After reaching the East Immortal Fort, he never went beyond Decan.
The two places were the only places he had been to in the past few months.
He had been surrounded by hardcore adventurers and the true outlands.
Even the City of Immortal Glory was something of the past. No longer on his mind.
"Everyone is here. Let’s leave for the Adventurer Guild."
Mia’s word broke Neo out of his thoughts.
Indeed, it was time to leave.
There were other adventurers on their way to the guild building.
All F-Rank cultivators.
All the cultivators Neo had met since he came here, were mostly of the F-Rank.
Neo knew that there were higher ranking cultivators in this fortified city.
They just loved keeping to themselves.
It was very rare to see one.
Their walk to the Adventurer Guild building was quiet and didn’t take long.
There were a lot of people densely packed in front of the building.
In a city this orderly, it was quite the raucous scene.
Everyone who entered the building, came out quickly.
The Adventurer Guild knew that with this global summon of theirs, it was sure to overwhelm their staffs.
Everything was quick.
It reached the team’s turn.
They entered the building.
All the tables and chairs in the common floor had been cleared.
The adventurers had arranged themselves in lines.
At the other end of each line was an Adventurer Guild sfaff.
There were five lines in total.
The team joined one.
When it reached their turn, Mia was first in line.
She was asked to tap her card against a small board placed on the desk in front of her.
It was the process to accept the special mission.
She did so.
Everyone in the team did the same thing, and soon it was Neo’s turn.
The moment Neo tapped his card. Something appeared on the board.
The staff saw it, and her attitude became more respectful.
She directed him to go to the upper floor.
"Please go up to the second floor, esteemed sir."
It seemed there was a different special mission for those with bloodlines.
One different from the one that everyone was given.
It seemed Raela was right, there was indeed special perks to having a bloodline.
Sofia who was the last person before him, saw him being directed to the upper floor.
Neo explained to her the new situation.
She would let the team know that it might take him a while to come back.
Neo walked up the stairs.
His actions drew the attention of the other adventurers in the common floor.
But they were too busy to gossip.
There was an hallway at the end of the stairs.
An Adventurer Guild staff stood there at the entrance.
His job was to welcome everyone arriving.
The man directed him to the room he was to enter.
Neo entered the room.
He was not the first one to reach here.
There were others inside already.
It was a very large room. More like a hall.
He looked at the people who had formed into their own small groups.
He searched the room for someone.
There she was.
She had also arrived before him.
He knew she would also have to come here.
She was the one who made it possible for him to be here, after all.
Neo never had the idea of revealing his bloodline to the Adventurer Guild.
He hadn’t known of the benefit that came with doing so.
Raela also saw him.
She walked up to him.
"Come here." She took his arm in hers.
"I didn’t expect that not soon after we parted. We are back here again. Together."
"The world indeed is full of such surprises."
Neo answered her.
He followed her as she dragged him into the room.
"The summon I told you about. I didn’t know it would happen this soon."
Neo shrugged.
He already knew it would come.
There was nothing he could do about that. It was best to learn what he could about it now.
They maneuvered their way through the small crowd.
Neo wondered how everyone got here so fast.
"What do you know about why we were called here."
Raela gave him a side look.
"Same as you. Nothing. But do you care to hear my guess?"
Neo did care for her guess. This young lady was quirky, but she was indeed insightful.
He nodded.
"Alright."
Raela brought him to a table.
There were five people seated there.
It seemed she had brought him to her own small group.
