SSS-Rank Lord Supreme: The Ultimate Devourer
Chapter 46: A Supreme’s Instruction
Neo wondered one thing.
She said she wouldn’t praise his luck, but she went on and did just that.
It wasn’t exactly a praise though.
There was no way he could call it a compliment or an insult.
What exactly had Devour told her?
He had no idea.
The immortal had regained her composure.
She now exuded the dignity of an expert.
"I am the Ancient Supreme."
She introduced herself.
To her, that was all she did.
A simple introduction.
But to Neo, it felt like an explosion just rang through his head.
Supreme!
This young woman before him was a Supreme.
He shook his head.
How could he have forgotten so soon.
This was one ancient monster.
Her supreme title also confirmed that fact.
She was one ancient being.
No one could bear the title Ancient without having something to back up that claim.
The title of a supreme wasn’t something that was picked casually.
Neo knew what a supreme was.
His former Clan in the Immortal World had one.
The Swallower Supreme.
The very peak of the Swallower lineage.
This was someone that no one in the Swallower lineage dared contend with.
He dared to bear the title of Swallower Supreme because he was the one who best embodied that title.
Then this ancient monster before him.
Ancient Supreme.
How old was she?
Neo’s eyes must have leaked some of his thoughts.
His eyes probably stared at her for too long as he wondered about her age.
She smiled.
"I am not as old as you think."
Neo shook his head.
"I wasn’t thinking anything of that sort."
She gave him a knowing look.
"I can tell when I am being lied to."
Neo almost cursed aloud.
Of course, an ancient monster like her would see through any nonsense he spoke.
He shut his mouth.
And turned his thoughts to other much safer territories.
A supreme wasn’t just someone at the peak of the immortal rank.
A supreme was someone at the very peak of the very peak.
Someone unmatched in their domain.
That was how Neo had heard it described.
"You don’t need to lie to me. You are the one I have chosen to inherit my Combat Legacy."
She seemed to be thinking of something.
"You are the only qualified heir. Naturally, there is something for you to inherit."
She waved her hand.
Gesturing at the bleak expanse of the world around them.
Neo looked around.
If this was all there was to inherit.
Then, this was one stingy supreme.
But Neo knew that this thought of his was ridiculous.
This was a world after all.
"This is the place where you will be forged into a true combat expert. Your potential is good, but you need more than just potential."
Good.
Neo’s thoughts focused on the word she had used.
This was the evaluation of a supreme on his potential.
She felt his silence after she said those words.
She stared at him.
He turned from his thoughts to look at her.
She blinked.
He felt himself drawn into her mesmerizing eyes.
He had been captivated.
This went on for a while, before he shook himself awake.
"I meant your potential as a combat genius is good. I haven’t forced you to your limit, yet. Your contenders for the legacy weren’t enough to bring out the best of your potential."
Had she just read his thoughts?
"Nothing that invasive."
The supreme said.
Neo almost cursed.
She was reading his thoughts.
If that wasn’t invasive, what was?
The young woman sighed.
Neo almost called her an ancient monster.
But he stopped himself.
"Supreme, why did you not hold your Combat Legacy in the Immortal World?"
She gave him a look.
"The one I was looking for wasn’t there."
Her lips curled into a gentle smile.
The one she was looking for.
Could that be him or Devour?
"If your combat potential is considered good. The thing you bear as a bloodline, makes you a guaranteed supreme."
She looked into Neo’s eyes.
"**** -"
Neo didn’t want to hear what she was about to say after that.
After she said that name.
He stared her in the eyes.
"Neo."
He faced a supreme, and told her exactly what it was he wanted.
Some would consider this rude.
Very rude.
The Ancient Supreme wasn’t angered that he had interrupted her.
Nor did she take it as a challenge to her authority.
She smiled.
"What a fine name. I wonder why you detest it so much. There is a reason for that rule in the Immortal World."
Her voice had turned gentle.
"There is no need for you to forsake your name because of the anger you feel."
"I did not forsake the name. I simply do not wish to be addressed by it."
His voice was steady.
"I want to be addressed as I wish. The name, Neo, wasn’t chosen out of anger. I chose it to declare that my path is mine from now on."
She nodded.
"Very well, Neo. What you bear makes you a guaranteed supreme, but it also makes you the target of many beings. Beings that are powerful beyond your imagination."
She moved closer to him.
"Most of the work has been done by your predecessors. That was why I called you a lucky bastard."
She laughed.
"But the greatest work yet would be done by you. The foundation has been laid. The path has been paved. All I want is for you to become more than just a blip in the long history of Existence."
She looked up into his eyes.
Her eyes held something Neo wasn’t so sure about.
"In this world we are in, I will forge you into the most amazing being existence has ever seen."
Her hand rose up.
She stroked his cheek.
There was affection in every action.
Her eyes held doting that went beyond normal care.
Neo’s heart pounded.
Soft.
Her hand was soft.
Her fingers were delicate.
Neo felt the blooming of something.
"I love you."
When those words came out of his mouth.
Neo knew that something was wrong.
The Ancient Supreme blinked.
Once.
Twice.
"Is that true?"
This vixen.
Neo had never had his psyche attacked as it had, since he met this woman.
Her hand left his face.
She turned around.
Walking away from him.
Her back looked lonely.
Neo found the whole thing unbelievable.
Had he just hurt the heart of a supreme being.
The thought hadn’t finished, when he saw her shoulders shaking.
Then the laughter that followed, almost made him hit himself in the head.
What foolish thoughts.
Hurt a supreme’s heart?
This was someone who had lived at the very least a thousand times his age.
She likely had broken more hearts than he could count.
Devour roared.
It said something to the supreme.
"Yes. Yes. Yes."
She said, as she tried to curtail her laughter.
She turned to him.
"Before your training starts. There are some things I will have to do. The purpose of the training is to make you into a great combat expert."
She pumped her fists into the air.
Her whole demeanor had turned playful.
"That is the main purpose. The secondary purpose is to strengthen that thing within you. And by the time this is done."
She pouted.
"You might really come to hate me."
