SSS Ranked Awakening: All My Skills Are at Level 100
Chapter 699: A Fraction Ahead
Chapter 699: A Fraction Ahead
The lightning returned cleanly, and Seraphine almost relaxed too soon.
As the Core Embryo compressed further, the interval narrowed again. She caught the change, eased the light forward, and waited through another complete circulation before touching the lightning’s return.
Light was the easier flow for her to regulate finely. She used it to establish the interval, then brought the lightning into place behind it. Nothing had to be forced through the junction alongside anything else.
The next cycle passed without hesitation.
She repeated it, feeling for the unevenness that had spoiled her early trials. On the following cycle, she imagined the turn of her wrist through the Eighth Form.
Both responses came when she wanted them.
Seraphine allowed crystallization to continue, making smaller adjustments as the Core settled. The last of her foundation contracted into a violet-veined crystal, and she maintained the complete circulation until its shape held without her constant attention.
Only then did she open her eyes.
Her sword lay beside her knee. She reached for it, stopped with her fingers above the hilt, and laughed under her breath.
Not yet. You can wait until you can stand properly.
Across the flat, Loriel had already risen from her chair.
Consolidation occupied the rest of the third month.
Drawing energy from the new Core felt different from drawing it from her Qi Sea. Seraphine kept anticipating the old response, adjusting too early, then having to correct herself.
She slept badly for a while. During one check, Loriel found that she had continued holding unnecessary tension at a lower junction even after ending a cycle.
"Rest it for the afternoon," Loriel said. "You’re making it work when it doesn’t need to."
"Can I practice without circulating?"
"You can sit with me and eat something."
Seraphine went with her. By evening the discomfort had eased, which made arguing about it seem rather pointless.
The most troublesome adjustment appeared at low output. Her staggered return worked beautifully during a demanding sword movement, then drifted when she let the flow settle. It took several days to recognize that she was preserving an interval meant for a much heavier load.
Once she stopped overcorrecting, ordinary circulation became comfortable.
At the end of the third month, she completed her checks, set the records aside, and sat for a while enjoying the simple fact that nothing required fixing that morning.
[Native Cultivation: Early Golden Core]
Ira arrived with lunch and slowed when she saw her expression.
"Finished?" she asked.
Seraphine nodded.
Ira put the tray down with unusual care, then hugged her hard enough to make her laugh.
"Finally. I was running out of things to complain about."
"No, you weren’t."
"I was saving the good ones." Ira released her and went to call the others.
Vyra arrived first, looked over the completed record, and smiled before drawing Seraphine into a brief embrace. Loriel wanted one final check and then, satisfied, squeezed her hand.
Leon came across the flat while Ira was redistributing the lunch.
"The Eighth Form?" he asked.
Seraphine had been waiting for someone to ask that.
"Faster," she said. "Only a little, but I can feel it."
His expression brightened. "When do I get to see?"
"As soon as Loriel stops looking at me like that."
"After lunch," Loriel said. "You can describe it after lunch."
They returned through the passage into Leon’s sealed inner chamber with the completed notes and the empty preparation cases. A little over two outside hours had passed since Seraphine entered seclusion.
Three days later, she met him in a protected practice yard on his peak.
Leon stood inside the marked exercise circle, turning a practice blade in his hand.
"Same distance each time?" he asked.
"To begin with. Then change the angle."
"And the short folds?"
Seraphine considered the circle. "Keep them within the markers. I want to test the transition, not spend the afternoon chasing you."
He grinned. "Fair."
At first he gave her straightforward openings, withdrawing as she committed. Her lightning cut met his blade; light followed along the changing angle before he could close that opening at the exercise’s chosen pace.
He increased the pressure and made her repeat it from the other side.
Seraphine missed twice, corrected her footing, and tried again.
When Leon began using short folds, she watched where his feet settled after each return. He had limited himself to the circle, but he varied the direction enough that she could not simply memorize it.
She drove a lightning cut toward his shoulder. He vanished from its path and reappeared near the left marker.
Her wrist had already begun turning. Light carried the follow-through into the space he now occupied, and the flat of her blade tapped his ribs before he completed his recovery at the pace they had agreed.
Leon lowered his weapon and looked at the point of contact.
"There it is."
Seraphine could not stop smiling. "Again."
"You’re allowed to enjoy the first one."
"I am. I’d enjoy a second."
He changed his timing, and she discovered how much work remained. Leon won the next exchanges comfortably, though twice she forced him to alter the response he had begun.
By the time they stopped, her forearms ached and her notes had acquired three new corrections. The additional output changed the pressure along her blade; the grip she used in the Third Form needed adjusting before it became a bad habit.
She sat beside him on the wall and flexed her fingers.
"I thought I’d finish one thing," she said. "Now I want to change half my forms."
"Do you mind?" Leon asked.
"Ask me after I’ve had a bath."
She looked down at the blade across her knees. During the preparations, she had imagined the successful transition so often that she had worried the real thing might feel ordinary. It had felt better. Leon nudged her shoulder, and she realized she was smiling at her sword while he waited patiently beside her.
"Thank you for the targets," she said.
The others had brought their own preparation work into the dimensional world during her seclusion and continued it after returning.
Ira had selected a dense fire-aligned mineral from the Palace’s unworked stock. Its resistance to sudden heating had frustrated the craftsmen who tested it, which interested her considerably.
"I want to hold more inside without releasing it every time I move," she told Leon. "This might help. If I can persuade it to accept the heat first."
Vyra had ordered components suited to sustained external control. The formation hall had supplied several established arrangements; she was comparing how they behaved when a flame’s shape and pressure kept changing.
"The standard tests hold one pattern," she explained. "Mine needs to keep working while I alter it."
Loriel maintained two trial plantings in the garden, testing possible supports for her life-force circulation. She showed the others her observations but was not yet willing to choose between them.
All three remained at Peak Foundation Establishment, with work of their own to finish.
That evening, Leon took the last sealed condensate reservoir from storage and set it beside his Scripture notes.
Seraphine paused at the door. "Your turn?"
"That’s the idea."
She glanced at the cylinder, then at the pages. "Leave room for corrections."
Leon opened to a fresh sheet and broke the final seal.
