Star Odyssey
Chapter 4580: So Fast?
"And you." Old Sixth turned to Ji. "Back then, we fought five times, and I only beat you by one move. But I never managed to even see your true face clearly. You are definitely still hiding something. None of us are stupid. Don’t let the enemy be the one to ultimately benefit."
Ji calmly stated, "I did my best."
Old Sixth glared fiercely and then turned back to Lu Yin. He let out a breath. "It seems that it’s time for me to use my final trump card. Let me say this first: this trump card of mine will take a little time to unleash."
"How long?" Old Sixth asked.
While being targeted by Devouring Trace, Lu Yin had managed to find the main battlefield. It was extremely far from where they were, to the point where it was at the very edge of what he could see with the Mirrorlight Art. That was why he had decided to have his main body take action. Given the vast distance, and with three different powers shrouding the main battlefield, including the temporal mist, he felt that he absolutely would not be exposed.
It was close enough. From the very beginning, Obscura’s Old Man Hehe had been scheming against Ruinfall, wanting the River of Aeons’ main stream to drag the Abyssal away. The Death Megaverse had then taken advantage of Ruinfall’s situation to plot against Obscura. Nethersea Suppression’s Dead End had been prepared for Devouring Trace, who had disguised itself as Ruinfall in order to execute the hidden traitors, while Wang Wen had pushed away the cage formed from Dead End so that Old Sixth and Lu Yin could both take action.
With each side plotting against the other, the final result was that neither side truly controlled the situation on the battlefield. Accidents would always be a factor that decided victory or defeat.
Ji's betrayal was one such accident, and Lu Yin having his main body take action was another.
"Three breaths."
"So fast?" The moment Old Sixth finished speaking, they saw Lu Yin collapse. The skeleton did not move at all.
Old Sixth was confused. "?"
Brother?
Ji was also befuddled. "?"
Even sword-testing stone stopped moving.
Above them, a dark, jagged attack fell from Devouring Trace, slicing straight at Lu Yin.
Old Sixth grabbed Lu Yin's skeleton clone and dragged him out of the way like a dead dog. Where is his promised ultimate move? Why did he just collapse like this? Brother, this is not the time to joke around! Does he really think of himself as a pile of bones? He’s dead, isn’t he?
Come to think of it, could all of these guys be dead? That stone too.
As the toad was thinking such things, the dark, jagged attack swept past. Even Old Sixth's lotus leaf was cut.
A black blade slashed from the right. Old Sixth let out a strange cry and immediately defended their right side with Lu Yin's body. The sword-testing stone took action, a point of sword light forming a stabbing attack from another direction.
Even if the sword-testing stone struck the black blade, Devouring Trace's attack would still strike Lu Yin.
Suddenly, another figure appeared. With a casual wave of a hand, the black blade shattered. The hand rose up and then fell back down. Old Sixth merely felt the cosmos roar once, and the toad’s vision blurred a bit. With that, they saw boiling, cloudlike Lifeforce almost instantly disperse the darkness and then envelope Devouring Trace.
Devouring Trace was horrified and quickly retreated, but the Lifeforce had filled the Aevum Inch in an instant, transforming the darkness into daylight as it did so.
The cosmos transformed in a mere instant. By the time Old Sixth reacted, the darkness that had overshadowed the Aevum Inch had already been replaced by white.
The toad stared blankly. A human? Could this be his ultimate move? Brother, who is this fierce powerhouse?
Lu Yin slowly turned around to look at Old Sixth. Heaven's Sight opened. Old Sixth felt no need to dodge or evade and was instantly trapped by Crow Immobilization.
They were shocked. What’s going on? I actually can’t move?
A smirk appeared at the corner of Lu Yin's mouth. He did not know if Old Sixth was hiding anything, and neither did he need to know. He would take everyone back, including Ji.
He looked at Ji while Heaven's Sight remained locked onto Old Sixth.
A stream of pure black surged upward as Lu Yin looked over. Suddenly, his pupils shrank. How is this possible?
He stared at Ji in a daze. The creature did not move or flee, but remained standing in place, seeming to meet Lu Yin's gaze.
"Brother, uh, no, Senior. We’re on the same side. You’re related to Brother Chen, right? He asked you to come here, didn’t he? We are partners, Senior," Old Sixth shouted.
Lu Yin continued to face Ji and said, "Please come with me somewhere. I absolutely will not interfere with your affairs."
Ji did not object.
Lu Yin nodded and then looked at the sword-testing stone. The next moment, he appeared beside Old Sixth. A hand reached out and grabbed the toad.
Old Sixth was terrified. They had personally seen Lu Yin’s hand rise up and then suppress Devouring Trace. This fellow was unquestionably a ruthless expert who could not possibly be any fiercer. "Senior, we are not enemies! Senior!"
Lu Yin grabbed Old Sixth with one hand. The toad immediately felt as if their entire body was no longer under their control. The power that had seized them was boundless and terrifying.
They lowered their head to look at Lu Yin's skeleton clone. What is going on? Is he still pretending to be dead?
With Old Sixth, Lu Yin teleported over to the sword-testing stone's side and grabbed it as well. He then moved behind Ji, his other hand reaching into the black streams. Finally, Devouring Trace was also dragged along, still trapped in place by Lu Yin’s Lifeforce. All of them teleported away.
Thus, a great battle came to an end. Once they left, the entire region of the cosmos gradually returned to calm. The change did not draw any attention from the main battlefield in the distance.
Lu Yin did not directly return to the Human Trio. He spent a bit of time locating Thousand Machinations’ Abyss and went to take Chang Tian away.
This was something else that he needed to do. He also had to thank Thousand Machinations. If that Abyssal had not allowed him to see the specific layout of the seven Abysses, then even if Lu Yin had learned the coordinates of Thousand Machinations’ Abyss, he would not have had a reference point for context.
Before long, Lu Yin returned to the Trio. He threw Devouring Trace over to Greater Sancte Green Lotus, asking the man to suppress the Abyssal for him.
Devouring Trace was an Abyssal of the Death Megaverse. No matter what, it was extremely powerful. However, it had used up too much Stillness while fighting against Lu Yin's skeleton clone, Old Sixth, and the others. Lu Yin had also seen through everything that Devouring Trace was capable of doing. Capturing it had not been difficult, nor would doing so increase his karmic chain at all.
Green Lotus's strength meant that it was not at all difficult for him to keep Devouring Trace suppressed in its current condition. Even at its peak, Devouring Trace would not have been a match for Green Lotus.
After that, Lu Yin took Chang Tian to the newly rebuilt Frightened Sparrow Terrace. There, Lu Yin placed his skeleton clone in an area for secluded meditation. Only then did he finally turn to face Old Sixth, Ji, and the sword-testing stone on the mountain behind the Heavens Sect. "Let me introduce myself. My name is Lu Yin, the master of the Heavens Sect of the Tianyuan Megaverse. Would you two like to introduce yourselves as well?"
Old Sixth smiled at Lu Yin. The toad revealed quite the calm attitude, and they even revealed a hint of flattery. However, their lotus leaf was broken, their steel fork was bent, the black bead that had once hung from their neck had fallen off, and their cloak was torn apart, all of which gave the Seven-Treasure Anura a rather miserable appearance. "I am Old Sixth of the Seven-Treasure Anuras. Chen and I are brothers who have shared hardship together and faced life and death as one, the kind of companions who have become sworn brothers. While putting on a show of helping the Death Megaverse, the reality is that I secretly saved many human skeletons. I am a protector who firmly stands with humanity, a friend of the Nine Ramparts, and—"
Lu Yin raised his hand to interrupt the toad. He waved his hand and then looked at Ji.
Old Sixth praised him, "Such bearing! Senior must surely be an invincible expert from the Nine Ramparts era."
Lu Yin ignored the toad. This damned toad was like Ancestor Shan, wary of human civilization and unwilling to interact much with it. Despite that, Old Sixth was saying so much. They really were someone who bullied the weak and feared the strong, matching Astral Anura’s personality.
Facing Lu Yin's stare, Ji did not say anything.
"Do you not want to speak? Here in the Heavens Sect of the Tianyuan, you can say anything," Lu Yin said.
Ji still did not speak.
Old Sixth glared at the black creature. "I say, you are being rather ungrateful. We are in the territory of human civilization. If you are told to speak, then speak. Also, get rid of those black streams. Who are you putting on an act for? You’re being rude."
Lu Yin said, "Since you don’t wish to speak, then forget it. I will have Chen return to the Death Megaverse with you and the sword-testing stone later. With this toad's betrayal, you will have an explanation."
Old Sixth was taken aback. "My betrayal?"
Lu Yin looked back at the toad. "Did you not betray the Death Megaverse? Didn’t you already intend to expose yourself during this battle? Then, after betraying the Death Megaverse, is your plan to join Obscura?"
Old Sixth realized that Lu Yin knew a great deal. Thinking of Chen's situation... Could it be?
Some things were not difficult to guess, and Lu Yin had no intention of hiding certain things from Old Sixth. As soon as he had decided to let his main body take action, Lu Yin had already thought of a way out. He had merely been surprised by Ji's situation, but that did not have any effect on the overall situation.
Old Sixth rolled their eyes, but just as they were about to speak, Long Xi walked over and brewed tea for them. She gave Old Sixth a strange look. She had never brewed tea for a toad before.
"Brew tea for that one first," Lu Yin said.
Long Xi followed his indication to look at Ji. She asked no questions and merely silently brewed tea, which she then carried to Ji.
A strand of black energy devoured the teacup.
Long Xi left again.
Old Sixth let out a single cough and prepared to speak, only to be interrupted again. The Second Nightking had arrived at the foot of the mountain. "Reporting to Lord Lu! Twenty-Fifth has been brought to you."
From this mountain, Old Sixth could not spy on the entire Heavens Sect, nor did the toad dare to even try. Despite the mountain’s small size, Old Sixth was ignorant of what was happening at the foot of the mountain.
Lu Yin took a sip of tea. "Let them come."
Very soon, Twenty-Fifth arrived. Old Sixth turned their head to look, and the toad’s eyes bulged in disbelief. "Twenty-Fifth?"
Twenty-Fifth also saw Old Sixth and froze. "Sixth... Great Uncle Sixth?"
Old Sixth was stunned. Not even in their dreams had they ever imagined that they would meet a junior Seven-Treasure Anura in this place.
Twenty-Fifth excitedly hopped forward. "Master Sixth, so you are still alive? That is wonderful, Master Sixth! I was wondering why, after arriving at the Heavens Sect, I felt such a familiar aura but could not remember who. It is wonderful that you are not dead!"
Old Sixth stared at Twenty-Fifth, their eyes flushing red. After so many years, this was the first time that they had met someone from home. The toad’s entire demeanor changed. Their expression no longer looked crafty, and it instead grew gentle. They were no different from the Seven-Treasure Anuras who had lived in the seven-colored lake.
But just a moment later, Old Sixth’s expression changed. They grabbed Twenty-Fifth tight and asked in a low voice, "What happened? Why are you here?"
Lu Yin did not disturb them and simply drank his tea.
Twenty-Fifth proceeded to tell Old Sixth everything that had happened to the Seven-Treasure Anuras. The older toad listened in a daze. They had not thought that the Seven-Treasure Anuras would suffer such a disaster, and they had not expected the humans to have saved their kind.
Even more shocking was learning that their father had died.
Dad died... Old Sixth squatted on the ground and stared ahead blankly.
Twenty-Fifth said in a low voice, "After Ancestor died, we followed Master First to this Human Trio to live here. Although we have had to help the humans with some things, the humans have treated us fairly well and have never forced us to do anything. In order to find Little Eighteen, who went missing, Master First left with most of the clan. I volunteered to stay behind to translate Ancestor's writings for the humans as a way of repaying them."
Old Sixth stayed silent. Twenty-Fifth also said nothing more and merely stayed by Old Sixth's side.
After a long time, the older toad finally managed to recover a bit. They stood up and turned to face Lu Yin. Slowly, the toad bowed, following the etiquette of the Seven-Treasure Anuras. "Thank you, humans. Thank you."
