Chapter 251: The Traitor’s Monologue, A Flawless Deception

  • Next Chapter

Raijin pointed his crackling silver broadsword directly at Dante’s chest.

"You should have let her drink it, Outworlder," Raijin hissed, his golden eyes flashing with aggressive, localized intent. "It would have been painless. Now, my entire clan is going to tear you apart."

Dante stared at the massive Clan Leader. He didn’t draw the [Dawn-Breaker Blade]. He didn’t summon [Voidsever].

He didn’t need to fight. He needed to trigger a completely different localized sequence.

Dante suddenly gasped, his hands flying to his throat.

He staggered backward, crashing heavily into a wooden support beam of the tent. He dropped to one knee, letting out a horrific, localized groan of absolute agony. His digital avatar began to violently flicker, gray static washing over his dark purple armor.

"Dante!" Seren screamed, rushing toward him, completely forgetting her own terror in the face of his sudden collapse.

Raijin stopped. He slowly lowered his broadsword, staring at the struggling anomaly in absolute, unfiltered delight.

"It worked," Raijin whispered, a massive, victorious smile spreading across his scarred face. "The system delay... the poison was fighting your localized anomaly status, but the administrative code is absolute! You cannot resist the execution protocol!"

Dante collapsed entirely, falling flat onto his back. He lay completely still on the dirt floor, his red eyes rolling back into his head, his avatar covered in thick, gray static.

"You are a fool, Outworlder," Raijin mocked, stepping over the shattered remains of the oak table to stand directly over Dante. "You thought you could walk into my encampment and dictate the terms of engagement? You are nothing but a glitch that the system has finally corrected."

Raijin didn’t even bother trying to strike Dante with his sword. The system execution protocol was absolute. If a player was afflicted with [Soul-Shackle Poison], their health bar didn’t matter. They simply ceased to exist when the timer hit zero.

The Clan Leader turned his attention back to Princess Seren.

Seren was kneeling next to Dante, tears streaming down her pale face, her hands desperately trying to heal him despite her magic being completely sealed.

"Get away from him, Princess," Raijin sneered, raising his silver broadsword. "His localized code is unraveling. If you touch him, you might catch the corruption. Though, I suppose that would save me the trouble of decapitating you."

"Why, Raijin?" Seren sobbed, looking up at the towering traitor. "My mother trusted you. You were the Vanguard of the Fey. Why align with the Enforcers?"

"Because your mother is obsolete," Raijin spat, his voice echoing loudly in the command tent. "The Zenith Protocol is resetting the board. The Arch-Administrator promised me that when the purge is complete, the Storm-Mane Clan will be elevated. We won’t just rule the Mire. We will rule the entire continent. I am securing the future of my people."

Raijin raised the massive sword high above his head, aiming directly for Seren’s unprotected neck.

"Your reign ends today, little Princess," Raijin declared.

Dante’s eyes snapped open.

They weren’t rolled back in his head. The gray static covering his armor instantly, flawlessly vanished.

He didn’t slowly push himself off the floor.

Dante triggered [Velocity Paradox].

He became entirely intangible, a blur of white-hot light that effortlessly phased through the dirt floor, completely bypassing the physical motion of standing up.

He materialized directly behind Raijin.

He hadn’t been poisoned. The [Aetherial Nectar] had flawlessly purged the administrative toxin the exact millisecond he swallowed it. He had intentionally faked the collapse, utilizing the oldest, most reliable psychological tactic in the game: letting the villain monologue.

He had wanted Raijin to confess. He wanted the Princess to hear exactly who had betrayed her mother, preventing any future political hesitation.

The deception was over.

Dante didn’t draw a standard weapon. He didn’t want to engage in a localized parry sequence. He wanted absolute, overwhelming destruction.

He held out his right hand, the black brand on his wrist flaring violently.

[Voidsever] materialized, the primordial greatsword devouring the ambient light of the glowing silver lanterns in the tent.

Raijin heard the sudden, predatory hum of the weapon.

The Clan Leader realized he had been played. He tried to spin around, frantically bringing his silver broadsword around to block the attack.

He was far too slow.

[Skill Executed: Phantom Waltz]

The purple invulnerability frames enveloped Dante. He vanished.

*Crack.*

He materialized exactly one foot to Raijin’s right. He swung Voidsever in a brutal, horizontal arc.

The 100% armor-piercing passive ignored the Clan Leader’s intricate silver armor entirely. The jagged black blade sheared cleanly through Raijin’s right shoulder.

[-150,000! Critical Hit!]

Raijin didn’t even have time to roar in pain. His entire right arm, still clutching the massive silver broadsword, was violently severed from his torso. It hit the dirt floor with a heavy thud.

*Crack.*

Dante teleported to the left. He didn’t aim for the head. He wanted to secure the target, not execute him immediately. He swung low.

[-150,000! Critical Hit!]

Raijin’s left leg was sliced clean through at the knee. The massive, seven-foot-tall Clan Leader collapsed heavily onto the dirt, completely crippled, screaming in absolute, localized agony.

Dante materialized behind the screaming boss, the animation ending.

The command tent was completely silent, save for Raijin’s horrified screams.

"You talk too much," Dante said flatly, resting the tip of Voidsever against the dirt.

The heavy flaps of the command tent violently tore open.

The elite Storm-Mane guards stationed outside had heard the screams of their Clan Leader. Dozens of massive, heavily armored lion-fey hybrids poured into the tent, their crackling silver halberds raised.

"Intruder!" a guard captain roared, spotting Dante standing over the crippled boss. "Kill him!"

Dante didn’t retreat. He didn’t drop his defense with [Asura’s Descent]. He needed to protect Seren and Erebus in the confined space.

"Erebus," Dante said softly, not taking his eyes off the charging guards.

The Half-Soul Celestial, still sitting in her chair, wiped her mouth with the back of her hand. She looked at the dozens of heavily armored guards rushing toward them.

"They broke the table," Erebus stated flatly, pointing a tiny finger at the shattered oak wood. "And they are noisy."

Erebus didn’t use telekinesis. She used the absolute authority of the divine.

"You are statues," Erebus commanded.

[System Event: Reality Altered.]

The combat engine didn’t even attempt to calculate a resistance check against the Level 50 Celestial Anomaly.

The dozens of elite Storm-Mane guards didn’t freeze like they were hit by a stun spell. Their physical avatars literally turned to solid, unmoving gray stone. The crackling lightning on their halberds petrified instantly.

They were trapped in their own bodies, completely conscious, entirely unable to move a single digital muscle.

Dante gripped Voidsever with both hands.

He didn’t use a Zenith-tier skill. He didn’t want to vaporize them instantly. He needed to clear the room efficiently.

He walked down the line of frozen statues, systematically, methodically swinging the primordial greatsword.

With every strike, the 100% armor penetration bypassed the stone. The [Absolute Ruin] passive ensured the damage was catastrophic.

The frozen players couldn’t scream, but their eyes widened in sheer, unadulterated agony as their avatars were brutally dismantled.

It was a slow, deliberate butchering. Dante moved from one statue to the next, entirely immune to pity, ensuring every single member of the corrupted elite guard experienced the full, horrifying reality of the class they had provoked.

When he finished, the command tent was completely silent.

Dozens of piles of gray dust littered the dirt floor.

Dante turned his attention back to Raijin. The Clan Leader was bleeding heavily, staring at the dust of his elite guard in absolute terror.

"You... you are a monster," Raijin choked out, clutching his severed shoulder.

"I’m a player," Dante corrected smoothly. "You’re the one who tried to delete a teenager with an admin code."

Dante didn’t ask questions. He didn’t need to interrogate the traitor. He had the confession, and he had the path to Radiant Lake.

He raised Voidsever.

"Wait!" Raijin shrieked, panic completely overriding his pain. "The Sovereign is protected by the Arch-Administrator’s localized suppression arrays! You cannot reach her without my security clearance! Spare me, and I will guide you!"

Dante paused, the black blade hovering inches above Raijin’s head.

"I don’t need your clearance," Dante said coldly. "I have a very large sword."

He brought Voidsever down in a clean, brutal execution strike, completely severing the Clan Leader’s head from his shoulders.

[-150,000! OVERKILL!]

Raijin’s health bar vanished. He exploded into a massive shower of blue and silver polygons, dropping a localized pile of high-tier loot onto the dirt.

[Target Eliminated: Raijin, Clan Leader (Level 55 Boss)]

[Experience Gained. Level Up!]

Dante watched his level tick up to 75.

He didn’t wait to sort the loot. The entire encampment outside the tent was likely mobilizing right now. The death of the Clan Leader would trigger massive localized hostility alarms across the entire Storm-Mane faction.

"Princess," Dante said, turning to Seren.

The young girl was staring at the pile of gray dust and dropped gear, completely pale.

"We’re leaving," Dante ordered, dismissing Voidsever back into his wrist. "We’re going to Radiant Lake. Right now."
