Chapter 257: The Vanguard's Call, A Celestial Stand
Dante stood on the jade pavilion, turning his back on the chaotic battlefield raging on the far shore of Radiant Lake.
His guild, Aegis Vanguard, was executing a flawless, overwhelming assault on Gawain's mind-controlled army. He didn't need to babysit fifty thousand elite, heavily geared players. Sera was coordinating the logistics, Casanova and Mei were breaking the frontline, and Lila was pinning the flanks.
Dante had a much bigger problem to deal with.
He looked down at Titania. The Fey Sovereign, a Level 80 Super-Divine entity, was still on her knees. Her massive, stained-glass wings were heavily cracked, bleeding silver light into the air as she frantically channeled every ounce of her remaining cosmic energy into the jade floor.
She was actively fighting a losing battle against the Arch-Administrator's deletion protocol.
Dante looked up at the sky.
The serene, starry twilight of the sanctuary was gone, completely replaced by a violently fractured, aggressive red canopy of raw system code. The Arch-Administrator was attempting to permanently delete the entire localized zone to consume the [Tear of the World Tree] buried beneath the island.
"I can't reach the sky," Dante muttered, his grip tightening on the dark bone hilt of [Voidsever].
He could fly using his [Mantle of the Void-Dragon], but the deletion code in the atmosphere wasn't a physical target. He couldn't just swing his sword at a cloud. He needed to find the localized anchor point of the purge protocol.
"Where is the systemic tether?" Dante asked, looking down at Titania. "How is the Arch-Administrator bypassing your localized wards to delete the realm?"
Titania gasped, her hands shaking violently against the jade floor. "The traitor... Raijin... he placed administrative beacons within the sanctuary before he fled. The beacons are actively pulling the deletion code downward."
Dante's Intuition stat finally pinged.
He didn't activate [Dragon's Insight]. He didn't need to.
He looked around the massive, open-air pavilion. Situated at the four corners of the island, completely hidden behind the elegant silver statues of ancient Fey warriors, were four small, jagged pillars of glowing green code.
They weren't majestic. They looked like ugly, metallic spikes driven violently into the flawless jade floor.
[System Identification: Purge Beacon]
[Tier: Administrative Artifact]
[Status: Active.]
"Four beacons," Dante noted. "I break those, the sky stops falling."
"You cannot break them!" Titania warned, her voice incredibly weak. "They are forged from the Arch-Administrator's raw code! Physical attacks will simply pass through them! If you attempt to use standard magic, the beacons will instantly absorb the mana and accelerate the deletion process!"
"I don't use standard magic," Dante said flatly.
He didn't waste time running. He triggered [Phantom Dash].
Because of [Chrono-Shift], the Zenith-tier mobility skill had zero casting time and zero mana cost.
He vanished from the center of the pavilion, materializing instantly in front of the first green beacon.
*BOOM.*
The localized sonic boom of his materialization rattled the nearby silver statue, but the glowing green spike remained entirely unaffected by the concussive force.
Dante didn't try to use a massive, flashy Zenith-tier attack. He didn't need raw kinetic damage. He needed the anti-virus.
He raised [Voidsever], the black blade humming aggressively. The glowing white veins of the [Source Code Fragment] pulsed with localized administrative authority.
"Let's see if you can absorb this," Dante whispered.
He didn't swing a wide, horizontal arc. He gripped the hilt with both hands and drove the jagged tip of the primordial greatsword straight down, directly into the glowing green code of the beacon.
The system interface hitched violently.
[Passive Activated: Systemic Override (Anti-Virus)]
[Administrative Hazard Neutralized.]
*SCREEECH.*
The sound of tearing digital static echoed loudly across the pavilion.
The green spike didn't shatter into physical pieces. It simply glitched, turning a dull gray, and dissolved instantly into harmless digital dust.
One beacon down.
Dante didn't pause to celebrate. He triggered [Phantom Dash] again, chaining the zero-cooldown teleports to rapidly cross the massive pavilion.
*Crack.*
He materialized in front of the second beacon. He drove the sword down.
*SCREEECH.*
The second beacon dissolved.
The aggressive red sky above the sanctuary visibly shuddered. The massive, jagged cracks in the atmosphere stopped expanding.
Dante teleported to the third beacon.
Before he could drive his sword into the green code, a blinding flash of white light erupted directly in his path.
A figure stepped out of the light, completely blocking his swing.
It was Gawain.
The Enforcer had abandoned the front lines of the battle across the lake. The massive Paladin Guild Master, clad in pristine white celestial armor, stood directly in front of the third beacon, holding his glowing white greatsword.
"You are not stopping this, anomaly," Gawain hissed, his eyes burning with intense, mind-controlled green static. "The Harvest is absolute."
Dante didn't step back. He didn't drop into a defensive stance.
He was Level 78. He had [Voidsever]. He had fifty thousand players slaughtering Gawain's army in the background.
"You abandoned your guild to protect a glitching spike," Dante noted, his voice completely devoid of respect. "Silas made a better Enforcer than you."
Gawain roared in fury, raising his white greatsword.
The Enforcer didn't cast a standard Paladin spell. He used his administrative privileges to bypass the combat engine entirely.
[Admin Privilege Active: Absolute Restraint.]
The air around Dante instantly solidified. It wasn't gravity magic; it was a hard-coded system lock. His avatar was completely paralyzed. He couldn't swing his sword. He couldn't trigger [Blink Step].
Gawain brought the glowing white blade down in a devastating, two-handed execution strike, aiming directly for Dante's neck.
"Die," Gawain snarled.
Dante didn't panic. He didn't try to struggle against the administrative lock.
He just smiled.
He didn't need to move his avatar to trigger a command.
"Aura," Dante whispered via the pet interface.
The tiny Grade 8 Mystic Sovereign popped out of her pocket dimension, floating directly above Dante's head. She didn't cast a massive AoE heal. She didn't cast her reality-bending invulnerability dome.
She used her offensive utility skill.
[Skill Activated: Light of Chaos]
A blinding, concentrated pulse of pure starlight exploded outward from the tiny sprite, washing completely over the charging Enforcer.
The system interface violently flashed.
[Debuff Applied: Absolute Silence. Duration: 10 Seconds.]
Gawain's administrative command was instantly, forcefully interrupted.
The glowing white greatsword froze mid-swing, the localized code abruptly stalling. The paralyzing lock on Dante's avatar shattered, returning his mobility instantly.
But [Light of Chaos] wasn't just a silence spell.
[Secondary Effect Triggered: Random Equipment Destruction.]
The Zenith Protocol's combat engine rolled the dice. Aura's cosmic weight, combined with Dante's maxed-out Luck stat, ensured the absolute worst possible outcome for the target.
A loud, tearing sound echoed across the pavilion.
Gawain's glowing white celestial greatsword—the primary weapon granted to him by the Arch-Administrator—didn't just break. It completely unraveled. The weapon shattered into digital dust, instantly deleting the item from his equipped inventory.
The Enforcer of the Zenith, the newly appointed proxy of the system, was suddenly standing in the middle of a boss fight completely unarmed.
Gawain stared at his empty hands in absolute, unfiltered horror.
"My sword," Gawain whispered, the aggressive green static in his eyes flickering in panic. "What did you do?!"
"I outsourced," Dante said smoothly.
Dante didn't use a Zenith-tier execution skill. He didn't need to burn his health with [Blood Sacrifice] for a disarmed opponent.
He simply stepped forward and swung [Voidsever] in a brutal, basic horizontal arc.
The 100% armor-piercing passive sheared cleanly through Gawain's pristine white celestial armor.
[-85,000! Critical Hit! OVERKILL!]
The massive damage number exploded in bright red text.
Gawain didn't even have time to scream. The Guild Master of the Apex Coalition, the second player to accept the dark bargain of the Enforcer, was instantaneously, flawlessly atomized.
He didn't explode into blue polygons. He turned entirely gray and dissolved into fine, digitized dust, suffering a permanent, localized True Death.
[Target Eliminated: Gawain (Enforcer of the Zenith)]
Dante didn't pause to celebrate the kill. The timer for the continental purge was still actively ticking, despite the halted expansion of the red sky.
He stepped over Gawain's ashes and drove [Voidsever] straight down into the third green beacon.
*SCREEECH.*
The beacon dissolved into digital dust.
Dante triggered [Phantom Dash], teleporting instantly to the opposite corner of the pavilion.
He drove the black blade into the fourth and final beacon.
*SCREEECH.*
The moment the final spike was destroyed, the aggressive, blood-red code tearing through the sky above Radiant Lake violently shuddered.
Without the localized tethers to anchor the deletion protocol, the system's purge command lost its target lock.
The massive, jagged cracks in the atmosphere began to rapidly seal themselves. The heavy, oppressive red sky faded, returning to the serene, flawless twilight of the Fey sanctuary. The bright, twinkling silver stars reappeared, reflecting off the crystal-clear water of the lake.
The continental wipe was officially aborted.
Titania, the Fey Sovereign, let out a massive, shuddering gasp. The Super-Divine entity collapsed forward onto the jade floor, completely exhausted, her beautiful stained-glass wings dimming significantly.
"Mother!" Seren cried, dropping to her knees beside the Sovereign, gently supporting her head.
Dante walked slowly back to the center of the pavilion, dismissing [Voidsever] back into his wrist. He was breathing heavily, the localized physical strain of chaining so many high-tier actions finally catching up to his avatar.
He looked across the lake.
The massive battle on the far shore was winding down. Without their Enforcer commander, and completely overwhelmed by the heavily armored, hyper-aggressive tactics of Aegis Vanguard, the mind-controlled Beast-Kin army had completely routed. The fifty thousand elite players of Dante's guild were currently securing the perimeter and casually vacuuming up massive piles of dropped loot.
The sanctuary was safe. The continent was saved.
Titania slowly opened her luminescent silver eyes, looking up at Dante.
"You stopped the purge," Titania whispered, her voice incredibly weak, but filled with profound, localized gratitude. "You saved the Tear."
"I told you I would," Dante said, crossing his arms.
"The system will not forgive this," Titania warned softly. "The Arch-Administrator knows you possess the Anti-Virus. It will not stop hunting you."
"I know," Dante smiled. It was a cold, incredibly dangerous expression. "That's why I brought an army."
Dante turned away from the exhausted Sovereign and looked back across the lake, watching his guild systematically secure the zone.
He had the stats. He had the gear. He had the ultimate weapon. And now, he had a massive, fifty-thousand-man army of elite, heavily geared veterans who were completely loyal to the anomaly who paid them in high-tier loot and permanent EXP buffs.
The Zenith Protocol thought it could control the players by forcing them into a rigid, cyclical slaughterhouse.
Dante was going to prove them wrong.
He opened his system interface, preparing to recall his squad and distribute the massive influx of loot they had just acquired. The real war, the war against the system itself, was just beginning. And Dante was entirely ready to break the game.
