Chapter 260: The Colossus Vanguard

  • Next Chapter

The golden shield wall of Aegis Vanguard advanced aggressively.

Without the threat of incoming magical artillery, the fifty thousand elite players pushed forward, systematically dismantling the disorganized ranks of the corrupted Beast-Kin infantry. The white sandy shores of Moonlight Lake were turning into a massive, muddy battleground littered with dropped loot and fading blue pixels.

High above the slaughter, Jack stood on his floating obsidian throne.

The Level 85 Demon Lord's pristine black suit was completely unruffled, but his face was twisted in genuine anger. His perfect, synchronized siege bombardment had been completely reversed, blowing massive, smoking craters into his own backline.

"You think a parlor trick will save your little guild, anomaly?" Jack sneered, his voice projecting clearly across the chaotic battlefield. "I am a proxy of the Arch-Administrator. I do not rely solely on simple mages. I command the heavy assets of the system."

Jack raised his pale hand and snapped his fingers.

The ground at the very rear of the corrupted army began to aggressively tremble. It wasn't the rhythmic marching of heavy infantry. It felt like localized, targeted earthquakes.

The dense, corrupted tree line of the Mirage Mire violently parted. Massive, ancient willow trees were physically uprooted and tossed aside like twigs.

Towering figures stepped out onto the beach.

They weren't heavily armored knights or mutated wolves. They were massive, fifty-foot-tall apes. Their fur was a thick, matted gray, and their skin looked like hardened granite. They possessed no weapons, relying entirely on their massive, tree-trunk-sized arms.

[Monster Spawn: Titan Ape]

[Tier: Super-Divine]

[Level: 65]

[HP: 30,000,000 / 30,000,000]

"Super-Divine siege beasts," Nyx whispered, tracking the massive red icons appearing on her datapad. "Level 65. Dante, there are at least twenty of them."

"They're from Colossus Valley," Sera added, her voice tight with panic. "That's an endgame containment zone located on the other side of the continent! Jack must have used admin privileges to manually spawn them here."

The twenty Titan Apes didn't roar. They simply raised their massive fists and charged directly toward the Aegis Vanguard frontline.

They moved with terrifying, lumbering speed. Every time their massive knuckles hit the sand, the ground violently buckled.

"Hold the line!" Garrick roared, standing at the absolute center of the vanguard. The middle-aged tank slammed his rusty sword against his silver shield.

[Skill Executed: Spiteful Bulwark]

The massive dark red dome of emotional frustration flared brightly, creating a solid, defensive barrier. Dozens of other high-level tanks within the guild activated their own defensive skills, creating a massive, overlapping wall of magical shields and heavy steel.

The Titan Apes hit the shield wall.

The impact was absolutely devastating.

*CRASH!*

The standard player shields shattered instantly. The sheer, overwhelming kinetic momentum of twenty fifty-foot-tall, Super-Divine beasts completely ignored the localized mitigation of standard tank builds.

Hundreds of Aegis Vanguard players were violently crushed into the sand or launched backward into the air, their health bars zeroing out in a single frame. The perfectly organized golden line violently buckled, a massive, gaping hole opening in the center of their formation.

Garrick's red dome held, absorbing a direct punch from one of the massive apes, but the localized kinetic force drove the tank straight down into the dirt, burying him up to his knees.

"I can't hold it!" Garrick yelled, sweating profusely as the dark red energy spider-webbed with massive cracks. "They're too heavy!"

"Fall back! Retreat!" a panicked squad leader screamed, watching the massive beasts begin to systematically crush the retreating players.

Dante didn't order a retreat.

He knew standard player tactics wouldn't work. The mathematical disparity between a Level 40 player and a Level 65 Super-Divine beast was too massive. The Titan Apes were designed to break sieges, to completely ignore standard aggro mechanics and flatten armies through raw, unmitigated physical trauma.

He needed to change the rules of the engagement.

Dante looked back toward the jade pavilion in the center of the lake.

"Aura," Dante called out over the private comms.

The tiny Grade 8 Mystic Sovereign popped out of her pet-space, hovering directly above the exhausted, dying form of Sovereign Victoria. Aura let out a sharp, questioning chime.

"Take the field," Dante ordered. "Get over the front line. Now."

Aura didn't hesitate. She vanished from the pavilion in a flash of silver light, teleporting instantly across the water. She materialized high above the chaotic, crumbling Aegis Vanguard frontline, hovering directly over the advancing Titan Apes.

She pulsed her [Ultimate Guardian Halo]. The massive, invisible dome of starlight expanded outward, granting the surviving players a 60% damage reduction.

It helped, slowing the slaughter, but it wasn't enough. The Titan Apes hit so incredibly hard that a 60% reduction still resulted in massive, fatal damage to the squishier support classes.

"They're still dying!" Lila yelled, dropping [Gravity Wells] frantically, trying to pin the massive apes to the sand. The gravity magic slowed them slightly, but their immense cosmic weight allowed them to slowly push through the pressure.

A player near the front, a Level 45 warrior, took a glancing blow from an ape's massive knuckles.

[-18,000 HP!]

The warrior's health bar instantly dropped to a microscopic sliver. He collapsed into the sand, completely incapacitated, his avatar flashing a critical red warning.

He was going to die. If he died here, he would be permanently deleted from the instance, losing valuable gear and experience.

Dante looked up at Aura.

"Fix him," Dante commanded simply.

Aura chimed, a sound of absolute, serene authority.

She didn't pulse her standard, passive regeneration. The tiny silver sprite raised her pale, glowing hands and activated her primary, active skill.

[Skill Activated: Resurgence Wave]

A massive, concentrated pulse of pure, restorative Aether exploded outward from Aura. It didn't wash over the entire army. It actively targeted the critically wounded warrior lying in the sand.

The silver light hit the player.

The system interface above the warrior's head didn't just flash a standard green healing number. The Zenith Protocol's combat engine violently hitched.

Aura's [Resurgence Wave] didn't heal for a flat amount. It was mathematically hard-coded to instantly restore exactly 50% of the target's Maximum HP, bypassing all localized healing reductions and anti-heal debuffs.

The warrior's health bar, which had been sitting at a meager 150 points, instantly rocketed upward.

[+12,500 HP!]

The warrior gasped, his eyes flying open. His avatar, completely healed and revitalized, pushed himself up from the sand. He stared at his health bar in absolute disbelief.

"I'm full health," the warrior stammered, looking up at the tiny, glowing sprite hovering in the sky. "She just healed me for twelve thousand."

"Do it again," Dante ordered.

Aura let out a happy trill, spinning in the air.

She fired another [Resurgence Wave], targeting a massive group of heavily wounded paladins struggling to maintain their shield wall against a Titan Ape.

The silver light washed over fifty players simultaneously.

[+15,000 HP!]

[+18,000 HP!]

[+14,500 HP!]

The massive, green healing numbers popped up in a dense, overlapping cloud. The entire frontline of Aegis Vanguard, previously battered and broken, instantly snapped back to absolute maximum health.

The fifty thousand players of the guild stopped panicking. They stopped retreating.

They stared at the tiny, glowing woman floating above them.

"She's healing us for half our total health," a mage whispered, his staff trembling. "Every single time she casts."

"What's her cooldown?" a rogue asked frantically. "Ten minutes? An hour?"

Dante smiled. It was a cold, incredibly predatory expression.

He didn't draw [Voidsever]. He didn't need to execute the apes himself. He had an army, and he was going to let them do the work.

He opened his system interface, navigating to the SSS-grade innate talent he had pulled from the Zenith Treasure Chest.

[Innate Talent: Chrono-Shift]

[Permanently reduces all skill cooldowns by 50%. Completely removes all mana and stamina costs for all abilities, spells, and passives.]

The talent didn't just apply to his sword swings. It applied to his entire systemic loadout, including his active, soul-bound pet.

Aura's [Resurgence Wave] had a standard cooldown of ten seconds.

[Chrono-Shift] halved it to five.

Dante didn't just tell Aura to heal. He told her to spam.

"Aura," Dante roared, his voice carrying perfectly across the battlefield. "Continuous cast. Do not stop until I tell you."

The tiny Mystic Sovereign nodded eagerly.

The sky above the battlefield turned into a permanent, blinding strobe light of pure silver Aether.

Aura fired a [Resurgence Wave]. Five seconds later, she fired another. And another. And another.

The massive, percentage-based heals washed over the Aegis Vanguard army in relentless, rapid-fire pulses.

A Titan Ape slammed its massive fists into a group of fifty warriors, dealing catastrophic damage, dropping their health bars to the critical red zone.

Two seconds later, a silver wave hit them.

[+15,000 HP!]

The warriors stood right back up, completely fully healed.

A rogue misjudged a dodge and was trampled by a charging ape, his avatar crushed into the dirt.

[+12,000 HP!]

The rogue popped back to his feet, entirely unharmed.

The massive, localized damage output of the Level 65 Super-Divine siege beasts was completely, mathematically irrelevant. Every single time the apes landed a devastating blow, Aura instantly erased the damage, constantly keeping fifty thousand players topped off at absolute maximum health.

And because [Chrono-Shift] eliminated all mana costs, Aura wasn't draining her cosmic energy reserves. She was an infinite, perpetual healing engine.

The total healing numbers popping up across the battlefield were staggering.

[Total Healing Rendered: 1,500,000,000]

[Total Healing Rendered: 3,000,000,000]

"She's outputting billions in healing," Sera whispered, staring at her administrative datapad in absolute awe. "She's out-healing twenty Super-Divine bosses simultaneously. That isn't a pet. That is a localized fountain of youth."

The Aegis Vanguard players realized exactly what was happening.

The terror and panic of facing towering, endgame monsters completely vanished. The sheer, overwhelming realization that they mathematically could not die broke their psychological limitations.

They weren't afraid of the giant apes anymore.

"We are immortal!" Garrick bellowed, dropping his rusty kite shield entirely and drawing his sword.

The entire guild roared in unison.

The fifty thousand players of Aegis Vanguard threw away their defensive formations. They abandoned their carefully coordinated shield walls.

They surged forward in a massive, chaotic, incredibly violent berserker frenzy.

They swarmed the twenty Titan Apes like a tide of golden ants. They didn't care about dodging the massive fists. They just climbed the beasts, stabbing, slashing, and blasting them with reckless abandon.

A Titan Ape swatted a dozen players out of the air. The players hit the ground, got instantly healed by Aura's silver pulse, and immediately sprinted right back into the fight.

It was absolute, unmitigated attrition. The Level 65 bosses possessed thirty million health points, but they couldn't kill anything. They were slowly, agonizingly being chipped to death by thousands of unkillable gnats.

Up on his floating obsidian throne, Jack stared down at the battlefield.

The Demon Lord's sadistic, mocking smile completely disappeared. His pale face twisted into a mask of pure, unfiltered systemic horror.

He was watching his elite, unbeatable endgame siege beasts get literally hacked apart by low-level players who refused to stay dead.

"This is an error," Jack hissed, gripping the arms of his throne so tightly the obsidian cracked. "This is a fundamental failure of the combat logic. They are undying anomalies."

Jack looked across the battlefield, his eyes locking onto Dante.

The gold-armored Outworlder was standing calmly near the shoreline, his arms crossed, watching his immortal army dismantle the siege.

Jack realized the truth. He couldn't win a ground war against an infinite healing loop.

If he wanted to break the army, he had to delete the anchor. He had to kill Dante.

Jack stood up from his throne, his pristine black suit radiating intense, dark administrative energy.

"I will correct this glitch myself," Jack declared.
