Chapter 844: Chapter 841 Impossible to Lose

Tap, tap, tap...

Watching the nobles rushing out, a smile of relief graced Lucas’s face. These so-called ’shares’ were actually what they called ’stocks’ back on Earth.

Allowing them to use goods as collateral was, in fact, helping them clear out their stockpiled inventory. When those goods were later sold to the Deepstone Dwarf Kingdom, it would be equivalent to liquidating those assets.

"Master, it seems to be a success," Mina looked at the empty hall in front of her, a smile on her face.

"Yes. Now all we have to do is wait for Dahlia and the others to return," Lucas chuckled softly.

Once Dahlia and the rest returned, all these goods could be sold. After exchanging them for iron ore, Sedona City could begin massive construction projects.

Right next to the Sedona City Bank, a new shop had suddenly opened. Its name was the ’Sedona City Securities Exchange’. The name was very strange, and passing citizens grew curious, stopping to observe it.

Some citizens had even gone inside to take a look. They found the interior layout to be very simple. It was a spacious hall; on the left, there was a row of five counters, each with a clerk sitting behind it. Aside from that, there were only rows of chairs set up in the middle of the hall.

"The City Lord has opened another new shop, but what kind of shop is this?" Someone asked curiously, not daring to go in.

This was because there were four armed soldiers standing guard at the entrance, exactly the same setup as the bank next door.

"Look over there, there’s a sign explaining what it is. Does anyone know how to read?" Someone pointed at a wooden sign standing beside the entrance of the Securities Exchange.

"Sedona City has begun cooperating with the Deepstone Dwarf Kingdom... One gold coin per share, minimum purchase of one hundred shares. There are two hundred thousand shares in total, available while supplies last." A literate person stepped forward and read out the words written on the wooden sign.

Indeed, the content on the wooden sign was exactly the same as what Lucas had told the nobles in the Drunken Night.

"I still don’t quite understand what it means." The commoners’ comprehension was limited, and some were still a bit bewildered. They only knew that one share cost one gold coin, and the minimum purchase was one hundred shares. This was something commoners absolutely could not afford.

Tap, tap, tap...

On the road in front of the Sedona City Bank, a carriage pulled over and stopped steadily by the roadside. Camilla stepped out of the carriage and walked briskly towards the Sedona City Securities Exchange next to the bank. Upon entering, she headed straight for the five counters.

"Hello, Miss. Are you here to purchase shares?" The clerk behind the counter asked with a smile.

"Yes, I want to buy one thousand shares. How do we do this?" Camilla nodded and asked.

"Alright. Please fill out your information here, and finally, sign, stamp your seal, and leave your fingerprint here," The clerk quickly brought out two sheets of paper and handed them to Camilla.

This was the securities trading contract. A piece of carbon paper was sandwiched between the two sheets, making it a contract in duplicate.

Camilla nodded, picked up a pen, and quickly filled it out. Finally, she pressed her fingerprint onto both sheets of paper.

"All done." Camilla handed the contracts to the clerk.

"Very well. May I ask if the Miss wishes to use goods as collateral or pay directly with gold coins?" After carefully inspecting the contracts, the clerk looked at Camilla with a smile.

"Half collateralized with goods, half paid in gold coins," Camilla replied after thinking for a moment.

"Understood. Please deliver the equivalent value of goods to Sedona City within ten days, and then return here to collect your contract. If the settlement is not completed within ten days, these one thousand shares will be put back on the market, and they will no longer belong to you, Miss," The clerk stated seriously.

The contract was the voucher proving ownership of those one thousand shares.

The clerk then wrote a receipt stamped with Sedona City’s official seal and gave it to Camilla. When she delivered the goods, someone would add another stamp to the receipt. She could then use this receipt to claim her contract here later.

Camilla nodded, took the receipt, and turned to leave thoughtfully.

Tap, tap, tap...

Just then, the sound of many footsteps came from outside the door, and a crowd of people rushed in. Leading them was Viscount Isaac.

"Miss Camilla, you bought them?" Isaac spotted Camilla instantly and asked curiously.

"Of course," Camilla waved the receipt in her hand. Saying no more, she walked straight out of the Securities Exchange; she needed to go back and prepare the goods and gold coins.

With Lucas’s help, Riverden City was developing extremely fast. She had already begun to take over the city’s affairs.

Isaac paused for a second, then quickly stepped up to the counter and said deeply, "I want to buy three thousand shares..."

"Right away..." The clerk smiled, bringing out the contracts and handing them to Isaac.

"I also want five hundred shares!"

"I want one hundred shares!"

"..."

The nobles who arrived successively shouted loudly, all crowding around the counters.

"Everyone, please line up first! Only one person is allowed in front of each counter!" The clerk shouted.

Helpless, the nobles had no choice but to obediently form lines. They knew the rules of Sedona City perfectly well; after all, they had suffered quite a few losses regarding this in the past.

"People are actually buying it." Some commoners walked in out of curiosity and saw the nobles queuing obediently.

"It seems this can really make money. Should we buy some too?" Some merchants began to hesitate. Just moments ago, they had asked a few nobles and finally understood what was going on.

"How much money do you have to buy them?" A merchant asked in surprise.

"I can at least afford one hundred shares—one hundred gold coins. I have some spare cash anyway, I might as well invest it. When it makes a profit, I’ll get a cut of the money every year." The man didn’t feel the slightest bit embarrassed.

"Aren’t you afraid of losing it all and making nothing?"

"Businesses owned by the City Lord are impossible to lose money on," The merchant said confidently. He then found a shorter line and joined the queue.

"That seems to make sense," Someone nodded. After hesitating for a moment, he also went to line up.

And so, the lines grew longer and longer. Sedona City was never short of wealthy individuals. The majority of these people were merchants and minor nobles from other cities who had spare cash on hand. Having witnessed the miracles of Sedona City, they were all willing to believe that this could make them money.

Some of these nobles and merchants had even permanently settled in Sedona City and bought houses here.
