Chapter 1639: Chapter 105: Fox and Mouse Game (15)_2
"Then what do you want to do?" Jeska asked.
"No need to arrange for me to meet Her Highness the Princess," Siegfried moved his jaw, "If possible, please let me meet the one who attempted to assassinate her."
"You want to meet the assassin?" Jeska’s eyes, if he still had them, would surely be filled with confusion, "I don’t even know who the assassin is, and even if I could find him, he would just be an executor..."
"No," Siegfried interrupted the old blind man, "I don’t want to see the pawn, I want to meet the mastermind, the one who stamped the seal ring on the order."
"The one with the seal ring?" Jeska asked cautiously, "Which level of authority? You have to know, orders are passed down layer by layer."
"The highest one," Siegfried said decisively, "The one who orchestrated all of this."
Jeska let out a long "oh," "Then you want to see Winters Montagne."
"So it’s the [Blood of the Wolf]?" A smile appeared on Siegfried’s face, "I’ve heard a lot about him during this time, please make sure to arrange a meeting between me and him."
The old blind man said nothing, groping as he sat back at the foot of the bed, leaning on his cane, seemingly lost in thought.
"Don’t worry," Siegfried smiled undiminished, "I won’t take his life."
"Oh, that I’m not worried about," Jeska replied casually, "You won’t have a chance against him."
"What did you say? How come I won’t?" Siegfried, though not fully grasping the rich connotation of the Paratu dialect word "chance," roughly understood the old blind man’s intended meaning from context, "I won’t have a chance against him?"
"You just won’t be able to take him on; he’s the champion of Paratu, even recognized by the Hurders," Jeska kindly advised, "If you’re thinking of humiliating him to avenge Elizabeth Li Yang, you’d better choose a different approach, something non-violent."
Siegfried felt the one being insulted was clearly himself, and he laughed heartily, "Then what are you worried about? Quick, arrange the meeting with His Excellency Montaigne."
"It’s not him I’m worried about, it’s you," Jeska said frankly, "I’m afraid you’ll die. Although it’s selfish to say, I don’t want to lose a good teacher, the research department can’t do without you."
"I’ll die?" Siegfried didn’t know whether to get angry or laugh, "I’ll die?"
Within the New Army Officer Corps, it was an open secret that Winters Montagne was a spellcaster, but an open secret is still a secret, and strictly speaking, the identity of spellcaster officers is confidential, not to be disclosed even to unrelated internal personnel, let alone leaked to Imperial Soldiers.
So Jeska could only subtly tell the young man before him, "In a sword fight, it’s hard to say who’ll win; in a life-or-death duel, you won’t last a single round."
But these words, in Siegfried’s ears, were a great slight and insult.
Siegfried, who usually disdained boasting, only heaven knows how much effort it took to suppress the urge to recount his entire dueling record to the old blind man.
He switched to a different attack strategy.
"Haven’t you always wanted first-hand material on the Battle of Dalmatia?" Siegfried, for some reason, kept laughing, panting and laughing, "Didn’t you want me to give your students a dissection of the campaign?"
The dark hollows where the old blind man’s eyes should have been seemed to brighten a little.
"Bring Winters Montagne here," Siegfried said, putting away his smile, "I’ll tell you everything I know."
"Alright," the old blind man said without hesitation, tapping the ground with his cane, "Have the transcriber come over tomorrow... No, today, you can start dictating today."
A service soldier, hearing this, came in to help the principal out.
"Oh, and," Siegfried lay down, suddenly remembering something, let out a cold snort, and called to the old blind man’s back, "tell that monkey-like..."
"Houdel?" Jeska asked.
"Yes, that’s the name," Siegfried said coldly, "Tell him today’s match is canceled—I am in a foul mood and might kill him."
Meanwhile, under the big oak tree at the corner of the playground, Houdel, Claude, Little Majiya, and a bunch of cadets were gathered around one person, cheering them on like stars surrounding the moon.
"...That damn bastard from the north, aiming for faces, hitting hard and viciously..." Houdel was beside himself with anger, pointing at the black eye of Little Majiya, "Look at how beaten up our people are? How can they show their faces out there?"
As he spoke, Houdel pulled in other cadets, "And this one, and this one, this one, take a look..."
The cadets surrounding Houdel were from Iron Peak County, Vernge County, Riverside County, Mont Blanc County, Thunder Group County, Mirror Lake County, and local from Maplestone City, with varied backgrounds and origins, but now they had one thing in common—every single one of them was bruised and battered, indignant, and thirsting for revenge.
It could be said that a certain Imperial Earl who simply wanted to brawl, with a two-handed sword, had effortlessly and delightfully shattered the last remnants of regional bias in the hearts of the New Army Academy cadets.
The cadets from "all over the world," due to their hatred of the Imperial Guy, naturally united as one—not realizing that twenty years later, the Allied Army would unexpectedly revive on the Alliance’s borderlands.
After the recitation of the book of hatred, Houdel grabbed the person before him with both hands—nearly embracing the person’s leg—and clung to him while wailing, "Instructor Axel, you must help us take revenge today!"
At the center of the crowd, the one invited by the cadets to substitute for them was none other than Axel Orange, the unacknowledged but widely recognized number one in Alliance swordsmanship.
Axel was fully focused on warming up, letting the words of others pass from left ear to right ear.
