Chapter 1642: Chapter 1.06: Fox and Mouse Game (16)_2
"Did you really search your area thoroughly?"
The lieutenant’s shoulders were trembling with anger, he pointed at Major Roson who was behind the same table, gritting his teeth, "Major Roson’s military police can testify!"
The Alliance Major did not respond, only gave a dismissive laugh.
This laugh made even Roson glance over, as in his impression, Moritz van Nassau was never such a harsh, arrogant, unreasonable person.
But this laugh was so natural that it didn’t seem acted at all.
Roson could only think that the Major was deliberately testing the person being interrogated, so he said nothing.
But the lieutenant being "interrogated" had his anger ignited by this contemptuous laugh, and he suddenly stormed to the table, slamming his hands heavily on it, shouting at the Alliance Major behind the table:
"I searched house by house, checked person by person, even tore apart the old lady’s flour cabinet, and flipped the young girl’s bedroom upside down, they’re all my neighbors! Do you know how they’ll curse me? Do you know how they’ll curse my family? This [expletive] isn’t thorough searching? What do you want me to do? You want me to arrest them all and falsely accuse them as arsonists? Will that satisfy you? Will you report this as an achievement and get rewarded for it?!"
With this, Roson had to speak up, he stood up, pushed the lieutenant, and shouted loudly, "Normal questioning, where did you get this temper from? Is this how you defend yourself? Step back!"
The lieutenant stared fiercely at the "rat-catching expert" for a while, before slowly retreating to his original position.
And Moritz didn’t even lift his eyes throughout.
"You just said, those are your ’neighbors’," Moritz flipped through the files, "Are you a Maplestone City native?"
"Yes," the lieutenant replied gruffly.
"So you’re saying that because you’re a Maplestone City native, you were lenient with your neighbors?"
The lieutenant was taken aback.
When he realized what the "Major" was implying, an uncontrollable rage surged from his stomach to his skull cavity.
His eyes bulged angrily, and he strode towards the long table, "I [expletive] am [expletive]!"
Seeing the situation getting out of control, Roson immediately circled the table to the center of the room, stopping the lieutenant who was showing explicit signs of rage.
But Moritz’s interrogation was not over, "Half a month ago, you got drunk and smashed a restaurant, yet the military police team didn’t record any punishment for you. In that incident, did you owe someone a favor, so today you decided to let them off the hook..."
Before the sentence was finished, the lieutenant being interrogated had already broken free from Roson’s grip, and pulled out his saber waist and threw it viciously towards the damned pretty face behind the table.
Roson watched helplessly as the sheathed saber flew towards the Major, causing him to hold his breath for half a second.
Luckily, the Major tilted his head slightly, narrowly escaping the flying saber.
Roson sighed in relief and immediately shouted, "Guards!"
The guards outside the door instantly pushed the door and entered.
Roson gave the cursing lieutenant a hard shove, causing him to stumble, he pointed at the lieutenant and said sternly, "Take him down and lock him up!"
Two guards supported the lieutenant who almost fell, they looked at the Major and then at the lieutenant, uncertain of what they had heard.
"What are you waiting for?"
The order was confirmed, the two guards immediately picked up the struggling lieutenant and brought him out of the room.
Roson took a deep breath, closed the door, and leaned on the door handle, building up his courage for a good while before turning around to say to the Major, "This attack is intolerable, I will seriously deal with him..."
"No need," Moritz said concisely, "Let him go once he calms down."
"Well..." Roson hesitated for a moment, then sincerely bowed his head in gratitude, "I thank you on his behalf, Major."
But Moritz seemed not to hear Roson’s words, taking a small sip of water, he drew out a new file, "Next one."
For most inquiries conducted with the junior officers, the process ended with the outraged officer slamming the door on their way out.
Even those junior officers who managed to hold back their anger could barely contain their resentment.
Only a very small portion of junior officers could control their emotions and calmly answer questions in the face of unreasonable questioning.
Roson’s most unforgettable impression was of a captain named Isra Nicholas.
Unlike other junior officers, Captain Isra was sitting while being questioned, because he only had one leg.
Though it was quite vicious, when Captain Isra painstakingly entered the room with his crutch, Roson felt a degree of relief because he lost count of how many times he had stood up to stop his enraged juniors tonight, he finally encountered one he didn’t need to block.
The next second, Roson felt ashamed and guilty for his thoughts.
Captain Isra Nicholas was from the Infantry unit and formerly belonged to the Mont Blanc County stationed army, Roson wasn’t very familiar with him.
Through Isra’s self-introduction, Roson learned that the former lost his left leg in the Battle of River Valley Village, was rehabilitated, and transferred to teach at the Paratu Army Academy.
The Army Academy, located outside the city, was the last unit to receive notification, so when Captain Isra and his colleagues arrived at the Maplestone City Cathedral, Roson had already gone to investigate the reception’s matter, just missing the chance to meet, and eventually, Major Moritz was the one who assigned tasks to the staff.
However, since all faculty members of the military school are disabled, even if Roson was present, it would have been difficult for Isra to leave any deep impression on Roson.
