Chapter 252: Chapter 252: No Longer Pure

However, the two siblings hadn’t been idle either. Grabbing a wooden bucket each, they hurried toward the beach. They knew full well that they couldn’t just sit around waiting for their older brother and mother to scout out the village’s situation. Even as children, they could still contribute. Right now, their targets were the other kids happily beachcombing on the sand.

One should never underestimate children. They might be young, but their minds were as sharp as tacks; they knew exactly what was going on. It was precisely because adults assumed children were oblivious and understood nothing that they rarely bothered to filter their conversations around them. As a result, these little ones inadvertently overheard plenty of neighborhood gossip.

Ling Yunge and Ling Qianfan pretended to be wholly absorbed in picking up seashells as they slowly closed in on the group of village children. Leveraging his slightly goofy appearance, Ling Qianfan confidently walked up and casually greeted them.

"HEHE, hello! We’re new here. My name is Ling Qianfan. I look a bit older than you guys, so if you don’t mind, you can just call me Brother Qianfan. Oh, and this is my sister, Yunge."

Wearing a sweet smile, Ling Yunge enthusiastically waved at the kids. "Hi everyone! Just call me Yunge. To tell you the truth, Qianfan and I have lived in the north all our lives, so we’ve never experienced the fun of beachcombing. Wow, looking at how you all do it, you’re amazing! Way better than us! Could we trouble you to let us tag along and pick up some shells? Would you teach us how to beachcomb?"

Hearing Ling Qianfan and Ling Yunge’s incredibly exaggerated praise, the children were so thrilled they felt as though they were walking on clouds, light and dizzy with joy. After all, this was the very first time in their lives that they had been praised so highly by older kids! That sudden surge of joy and pride instantly filled their chests, as if their hearts were wrapped in a warm embrace.

Bursting with excitement, the children didn’t hesitate to invite Ling Qianfan and Ling Yunge to join their little beachcombing squad. The two happily accepted and seamlessly blended into the group.

Soon after, guided by Ling Qianfan and Ling Yunge’s seemingly casual but clever questions, the kids completely opened up. Chattering away all at once, they talked about the various characters and interesting happenings in the village. Some children vividly described the eccentric old man who always liked to make everyone laugh. Others excitedly brought up the smart and adorable puppy living next door. A few more animatedly recounted the spectacular cockfight that had taken place under the big tree at the village entrance...

Ling Yunge and Ling Qianfan listened quietly to their innocent chatter, deeply moved. They realized that the minds of these children were like a crystal-clear spring—devoid of impurities and utterly pure. In this complex world, maintaining such simplicity and purity was a rare treasure indeed.

However, they couldn’t help but lament the fact that they were deliberately fishing for information from these kids right now. BOOHOO, the two of them weren’t pure at all anymore!
